I didn't really want to open this thread again ( whitch I imagine is a wound for some) but I heard something today that actually made me think about this thread.

My Dad was a drunk, he died as a drunk.....my mom tried everything even leaving home on my first day of college...it didn't matter, he cared; but didn't know he did.

The sentence that took me back today was this..." The greatest sins are the ones committed against yourself " To me that means only spending enough time to help someone until they start bringing you down, too. My Dad didn't even come to my HS graduation because he was drunk...he was also my Little League coach.

Stay true to yourself...and ? I could use more answers.

So many questions here, and I appreciate all feedback. Honestly, the guy has been thru AA and other classes ordered by courts many times, but he just doesn't see it. I can only pray that I can make a difference somehow, someway. I could start by telling him to stay away from me when drinking, but then I feel like I am turning my back away to a friend that I may be able to help.

Rarely do alcoholics see the light until they've hit rock bottom (often more than once). The best thing you can do is to get recovering alcoholics to talk to him and hope that something hits home.
