Azzurri player's in shock

b03b17261a4e4ead296044c52631dac0.jpg

During a press conference this morning in Duisburg,Captain Fabio Cannavaro was told that former Azzurri teammate Gianluca Pessotto had attempted suicide.

35 year-old Pessotto played along side Del Piero,Zambrotta, and Cannavaro last season with Juventus.

He had made 22 appearances for Italy in his career and was just recently named Team Manager of Juventus.

Pessotto apparently jumped from his office building window in Turin. He fell from just over 5 stories. He was found holding a set of rosary beads.Reports say he's suffered internal bleeding and multiple fractures.Pessotto is listed in serious condition.

Allesandro Del Piero and Gianluca Zambrotta left the camp this morning to visit him in a Turin hospital.

Of course, you must ignore the fact that he beat his defender, dribbled into the box to creat a great scoring opportunity and the Australian defender foolishly went down in front of him. Take away everything that happened on the play and just blame the ref. :103631605

I'm still waiting to hear a soccer expert on TV or radio say "that was absolutely not a foul". Haven't heard it yet. Of course, if the Aussies did anything right on that last possession we would not be talking about this.

Maybe you should try watching non-Italian TV. Put down your veal sandwich, straighten out your v-neck, grab the remote control from under your camaro magazine and turn the channel!!!!!!!! Then you'll hear some reality... that the penaty kick awarded to Italy was a F'n disgrace.

Update on Pessoto

35 year-old Pessotto played along side Del Piero,Zambrotta, and Cannavaro last season with Juventus.

Thursday
Gianluca Pessoto's condition has said to have worsened, as he ramains in the Intensive Care Unit.

Azzurri Captain Fabio Cannavaro found it very difficult..but managed to say," It's incredible,I saw him just the other night at the hotel up in Hamburg for the match against Czech Republic."

His other teammate and close friend Gianluigi Buffon added," It makes it difficult to concentrate on football matches and all the emotions you are supposed to feel at the World Cup."

Pessotto.. father of two, has said to have been battling depression since he retired from Juve.He had told his wife that being behind a desk, just wasn't the same as being on the pitch with the team.

The Italians have admitted over the last 2 days, that this recent tragedy has put life into perspective for them.."remember it's a game."

With all that's happened over the last 3 months in Italian soccer, people still insist we are a "lucky" nation.

Sal I have for the most part stayed out of your thread but I dont have anything nice to say about the Italian lads.

However, with all due respect and I know the man is on his death bed, but what a selfish prick to do this to his friends, team mates and countrymen right in the middle of the WC.

First class prick if you ask me.

Italy has been playing so poorly this WC, they've struggled against USA and Australia, now they have to play Germany who got through Sweden and Argentina. I'll be happy to see Italy out they don't deserve to be here, I hope that the 3-0 win against Ukraine impresses Italian fans enough to move the line a bit more so I can put a few bucks on Germany
