Feb 26th and March 3rd are long before any domestic lockdowns were happening.

The reaction is because this was a big deal, not something that would be over in a month.

The writing was on the wall for anyone that wanted to read it.

You're probably more sharp with all of this then I am Pats.. But markets were already having some real bad days up till those 2 dates.. not sure exactly what all else was happening with economy at that time. don't remember for one..Maybe the anticipation of things shutting down was in their sites too.. But all of this still doesn't add up for me...You can phrase this however you want , but part of these Fed reactions , looking back , have to be in conjunction with what got them to that point to make their decisions.. Bad models led to media hysteria.. this whole thing led to an avalanche ..

When we look back in months or years with a death rate that's in the annual flu range or close to it , don't be surprised that the narrative will be , why did we do all of this to our economy ….

I do agree it is a matter of phrasing. But as much as the media loves fear porn and sensationalizing things, they don't really set policy or drive that.

If the actions that governments took around the globe were too extreme then that is more of a failure on the health experts like Fauci, Birx.

Wasn't really my point though, my point was if huge swaths of the global health/finance community are telling you this is a big deal then thinking it is going to be over in a month probably meant you had a blindspot or two.

It'll be much easier to analyze the whole thing when it is over with than in real time.

(1) A lot of people overestimated and underestimated. It is extremely difficult to project something like this. Did you estimate it properly? Enfuego underestimated. Lot of people made far far worse predictions than him and underestimated. Trump didnt take it seriously at all, which was stupid on his part. People were off both sides. How can some predict the effect on something like this. So dumb to try when you can wait until the end
(2) Obvious? Again how is predicting a novel virus obvious? It wasnt for the fed either.
(3) Did he say the actions were taken cuz of "media hysteria"? If he did then hes wrong, but i dont think he did. He said the media overblew it, which most people would say is accurate.

By early March, it was pretty much known it was going to be a problem. I didn't peg the situation to a T, I'm not an epidemiologist but I have posts from late Feb/early March saying it is going to be a problem because of how fast it can spread in an open society (thus meaning an open society won't exist for a bit)...And I'm hardly a Rhodes scholar. Before that, you would have a point that it would be easy to ignore. Birx and Fauci both downplayed the risks of it before then but he was singing this tune until Mid-March.

He has numerous posts saying it wasn't a big deal, it would blow over in a month (this into mid-March, which he denied and the sleuths found) and it was nothing but the media trying to submarine Trump. Once this whole thesis faded, he just stuck with the 2nd part and shed the 1st part. Very intellectually disingenuous.

As far as people making better/worse predictions than him, I guess? Most that I've seen on here weren't quite that obnoxious. The Clay Travis shtick just backfired man. You can be entertained by twitter carnival barkers, but you don't actually adopt their opinions and go to a message board to play the character, lol. Grift only works if you're getting paid for it. In reality I think he came clean enough about the first part and admitted he was wrong then was arguably right with the second part. 2) Do I think the media overhyped this situation for ratings and to make POTUS look bad? Yes. Was I wrong? No.

3) Do I think we needed a full blown quarantine? No.

4) What would I have done? Fully quarantine old people and people with pre-existing conditions. Everyone else? Keep the economy flowing.

5) Are all hospitals and politicians classifying deaths as COVID related even if the patient was only asymptomatic? Yes.

6) Do I feel the number of deaths are inflated because hospitals/politicians are classifying all deaths as COVID related if the patient is only asymptomatic? Yes.

7) Why would hospitals/politicians do this? Because the more COVID related problems/death they have in their states, the more money they get from the Federal Government.
