Pathetic. but good move by him. Suicide always better for everyone then life in prison/ death penalty. Everyone wins.

At those times at Nebraska, there is a reason you have 3 lineman taken in the 1st couple rounds and every rb was great.

The 2001 Canes may disagree.

Miami beat VTech by 2, nuff said. Not to mention, the Huskers rested their players in mostly all of the 2nd halves of their games

I believe that team from Nebraska that year still holds the record for Margin of Victory and like you said, rested a lot of their starters in the 2nd half. But that only lead to the starters being even more rested for the next game in which they were able to ooast to victory.

One of the unintentionally funny lines I remember hearing on one of the ESPN shows biggest busts things was "Lawrence Phillips not only ran over opponents (2 second pause) ....and women." LOL

That Canes roster was absolutely loaded with 1st round talent. I wouldn't be surprised if 30 players on that team were not on NFL rosters at some point. They had back ups that were future top 10 picks. You could build an NFL team around what they had.

For the hell of it, I looked it up... 17 kids on that roster were future 1st round picks.

Nebraska around that time was about having great O lineman. Their running backs never did shit in the NFL. Best 1 I can think of was Ahman Green.

That was the little secret on Nebraska running backs. The Olines were usually so good that the backs probably missed out on some development. The ones that had the most NFL success during that entire running tenure (80's-90's), besides Ahman Green, were mostly fullbacks: Andra Franklin, Cory Schlesinger, Tom Rathman and then Roger Craig who was a rb but switched to fb to make way of future Heisman Mike Rozier, whom had just moderate NFL success compared to the hype.

The 2001 Miami vs 1995 Nebraska debate is open to interpretation. Both sides obviously were loaded with NFL talent, but besides my obvious homerism for Nebraska, I'd look at the coaching staff for the difference makers. It isn't even close, as it's a landslide in Nebraska's favor. That would be the difference, imo.

On Phillips, I'm not surprised something happened. He was in a rough prison. The guy obviously had issues existing in normal society, but his prison sentence was a joke. He was sent away for the 3rd strike rule on an incident where nobody got hurt. I'm not justifying it, just saying the punishment didn't fit the crime. This is a clear case of somebody that was fucked up from a very early age by bad parenting.
