Willie, look at the bright side, you’re still able to throw the dice and sip a Glenlivet. Hopefully you’ll be able to slip the high hard one to Huskygal soon.

No one thinks about life being too short until something like that happens. All you have to do now is learn to embrace moderation.

Looking forward to seeing you again the next time you come to Vegas.

Stay well my friend.

heart disease is the number one killer in the United States......numero uno

approx., 80% of heart disease is preventable with lifestyle changes (weight loss, healthy eating, exercise, smoking cessation, alcohol moderation, tx of sleep apnea.....etc.)

90% occlusion of 5 coronary arteries? to echo others, you're fortunate to still be standing , :)

enjoy recovery............, stay good

my entire life the joke has been about having great genetics

1) been overweight the last 10+ years, after being a gym rat playing hoops most of my life
2) no filters, eat and drink and party and essentially do whatever I want (never smoked cigarettes)
3) work hard to play hard
4) never once sick for the 1st 50 years. I had bronchitis a couple of years ago and the flu this year
5) never been in a hospital until this

despite my lifestyle, low cholesterol, great blood pressure, passed every EKG or stress test and ultra sounds of my heart show a great heart muscle

even during this process, never had anything like shortness in breath. I'll take a flight or two of stairs before waiting for an elevator

so do I have good genetics or bad genetics?

Glad you had the good sense to go to the ER Willie and that your doctor was able to figure it out. This is gonna be one hell of a comeback!

moot point.

energy to be directed at the RISK FACTORS (environmental) that likely contributed to your long standing chronic disease; atherosclerosis. Heart disease is often asymptomatic. Acute expression (heart attack, stroke ) not uncommonly unmasks, leads to diagnosis. Pathogenesis is interplay between environmental factors, and genetics. Management post-op directed at applicable RISK FACTORS; you have control of these.

by your own admission, two biggies;
- been 'overweight the last 10 + yrs'-- this is a risk factor for various chronic illnesses , such as diabetes, heart disease, some cancers.
-sedentary lifestyle- the American Heart Association recommends for overall cardiovascular health 150 min of moderate exercise weekly (guidelines in full below)

http://www.heart.org/HEARTORG/Getti...cal-Activity-in-Adults_UCM_307976_Article.jsp

what other risk factors may have played a role?

-diet ?
- alcohol ?
- sleep apnea? this is tested for by your MD via a sleep study (PSG); snoring and daytime sleepiness are two cardinal red flags
- mod/advanced periodontal disease?-- heart disease and periodontal disease have strong correlation , not surprisingly as both are chronic inflammatory by nature. Note, i am NOT suggesting a causal relationship; no scientific evidence for this

recovering better that can possibly be expected (IMHO).

working a few hours a day, until I fatigue. My biggest problem seemed to have been getting my lungs to fully expand again, but walking and deep breaths is solving that.

operation was 23 days ago

what hurts the most is my leg where they pulled my bypass artery from. The chest really doesn't hurt, just feels like a lot of pressure is being applied if I don't take any pain killer.

it's amazing how quickly things are progressing considering the circumstances

walking, socializing
