I forgot this guy even played basketball. Oden outlasted two GM's. Too bad his body didn't have that kind of durability.

Oden was still the correct choice. The guy would have been an elite center if he didn't suffer a ton of injuries which there were no signs of prior to the draft really.

Durant is the 2nd best player in the NBA (or 3rd if you wanna say Howard)

I think Oden would of been elite but thats pretty strong to say a guy who didn't play would be better than the 2nd or 3rd best player now and a guy who is going to go down as top 10-15 best ever. Durant will pretty easily finish top 5 all time in pts if he doesn't get hurt.

Also it was KNOWN he had injury issues, so him being hurt was priced into the pick. I'm not saying I would've had the balls to take Durant over him, but pretty clearly in hindsight it was the wrong pick.

Oden was not the correct choice and anyone with a clue at the time saw that Durant was the better player..

I think Jake is trying to say that Oden was the logical choice at the time because the dominant big men are so rare, and just about every team would have taken Oden first.

But.... If I were and NBA GM I would have been hesitant after seeing the way Al Horford & Joakim Noah handled him in the title game.

Durant in good company:

Kevin Durant tallied 24 points, six assists and two blocks, and in the process joined some elite company.
Those blocks gave Durant 900 for his career, and he becomes just the ninth player in NBA history to record at least 22,000 points, 5,000 rebounds, 3,000 assists and 900 blocks in their career, joining Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Karl Malone, LeBron James, Dirk Nowitzki, Shaquille O'Neal, Hakeem Olajuwon, Tim Duncan and Kevin Garnett.
