Does Ryne Sandberg deserve to be in baseball's Hall of Fame when they vote Tuesday?

By the way, how many players have made 10 consecutive all-star appearances? I don't know, I'm curious. I know of them.

Oh yeah, and how many have won 9 consecutive gold golves at their position? I don't know, I'm curious. I know one of them.

10 consecutive all-stars and 9 consecutive gold gloves. An MVP award. Top 5 in runs scored in 8 out of 11 years. Top 10 in hits 8 out of 9 years. Top 10 in OPS 6 out of 9 years. And over 300 career SB's. All this from a position which historically is one of the weakest at the plate -- 2B.

How anyone could claim this resume is not HOF material is beyond me.

I am not really saying Dwight deserves HALL induction over RYNO, but if RYNO gets in and having DEWEY off the ballot is a complete joke!!

PS- Didnt I state above I was sick of these discussions??

Maybe Sanberg should get voted into the 2nd baseman Hall of Fame.

Just kidding, I hope he makes it. Cubs fans deserve it.

Bert Blyleven is a no brainer...Ryno has a good case but so does Lou Whitaker, who didn't even get 5% his first year of eligibility.

I was a big Sandberg fan back in the day, but I don't feel he deserves to be in the HOF. Too many good players in, and not enough great players. I cast my ballot on MLB.com and didn't give anyone the nod. No one on the ballot deserved to be enshrined, but that's just my opinion.

Joe Morgan was a great player. If you want to look, you will see every team he played on was a contender, no coincidence.

Steve Sax? Lmao, had one good year. Utterly average player. Poor onbase % for a leadoff hitter and not that good a defensive player. Not close to the player Sandberg was. Basically Mark Grudzelanik is current version of what Steve Sax was.

Morgan? Sandberg had more hr's in fewrer years, a higher BA (.285 v. .281), same # of AS appearances, more GG's. Morgan played more yrs so if that's the qualification then fine. And Morgan is the only 2B in the last 50 yrs that compares. Again, over a 10 year span he made the AS game every yr and won 9 sr GG's. He was the best 2B during those 10 yrs. He should be a shoo-in.

I don't have a problem with Sandburg getting in, but there is no comparision between him and Morgan. Sandburg had a good 10 year period, but that was it. Morgan was outstanding from 1965 to 1982; even his last year (1984) his on-base % was better than Sandburg's career average. Ryno had better power but not nearly enough to make up for the difference in career OB% (.392 to .344).

You also have to discount the All-Star game appearances and gold gloves as well. Both are highly subjective because of media and fan voting. It certainly helps build a fan base when you are on TV 162 times each year.

If I had to vote, I would vote for both Sandburg and Lou Whitaker for the HOF...both are very similar players statistically speaking.

I can't believe this is even a debate. Comparing batting statistics for a second baseman and outfielder? Manager's would be happy with their second baseman hitting .280 with 10 homers. This guy was a feared middle of the order hitter and an excellent middle fielder.

He's automatic for the HOF.

Cheers

Ryno played in Wrigley.........Joe in Riverfront!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Morgan very seldom EVER attempted to steal a base that didnt mean something.

I have nothing against RYNO and am not a Reds fan, but believe me, MORGAN was quite a better player than RYNO.
