Grandfather built one of largest sign companies in south. He fought in both world wars and was among first to adapt French silk screen techniques in the states. His father was a house builder and as a drug addict beat his workers. On maternal side my gramps served prison time for robbery. The family information available on even the most basic geneological programs on the web is just amazing and I can understand how folks spend years on research.

Both great grandfathers on my Mom's side of the family were farmers and one farmed near the town where Lawrence Welk grew up. My grandmother went to school with him. She said he wasn't too bright.

I don't know what one great grandfather did on my Dad's side of the family but the other one was a farmer who had the good fortune to own land that the railroad later bought. He took the money and used it to buy 3 banks and 2 drug stores.

Mom's Grand Father was a farmer in Galway, Ireland.

Da's Grand Father was in the Irish Army.

Not sure about anywhere else but in Ireland your parents occupation is actually listed on the Birth Certificate so if your curious, just get a copy of your grandparents BC.

My grandfather was one of the people who brought Capone down. Also was the Asst. Atty. General of Illinois.

I feel like such an underachiever.

I only know of one great-grandfather's job, that of sherrif in Chester County PA. I would guess teacher/farmers/road builders for the rest. I know this is vague, but being from Altoona, West Chester, and Lancaster PA area.

One of my great-great-grandfathers was a Clanton in the OK Coral gunfight. We had a Clanton reunion back in Maryland about 5 years ago.

Interesting topic..

My paternal grandfather worked for Lorillard Tobacco Company in Kentucky for 40+ years. His father was a farmer is Eastern Ky. Dont know anything about my grandmother's father. She died when I was 3.

My maternal grandfather worked for American Standard for 35+ years, and became a preacher the last 15 years of his life. He raised me so I was very close to him. One lasting memory that sticks out with him comes from a reunion of sorts he had at American Standard during the last couple of years of his life. I went with him and he showed me the very hot foundry where he spent over 30 years of his life. I never remember he missing a day, sick or not. Lots of respect from me. I guess that's where I get my work ethic from. His father was a coal miner in south central Ky.

My maternal grandmother's father's life was pretty much kept a secret from me until I was around 20 or so, primarily out of shame. He was a bootlegger and gambler from the sticks of Kentucky. The story I was eventually told was that he got all liquored up during a poker game, thought someone was cheatin and lyin', shot and killed a man. Died in prison of TB. Don't know anything about his father.

My grandfather had a horse and wagon in Newark, NJ and delivered ice and coal to people who had 4 story walk ups. He was an absolute BULL. I remember him taking me for a ride with his horse "Whitey" and I'll never forget it. My other grandfather sold produce out of the back of a truck and would always give me prunes that he kept in a garage. Both were from Newark and earned an honest living!

This is exactly what my Great Grandfather did. Owned a Ice and Coal business in East Pittsburgh. I can still remember my Grandfather telling me about working for his Dad carry 2 tons of coal up 2 story walk ups for .50 cents.

One great grandfather worked for the railroad in County Clare Ireland. Other great grandfather was a rich farmer who had a bastard in good ole Catholic Ireland (County Clare as well). That bastard went on to have my father(not a real bastard just a regular bastard), so he could move to Connecticut, and I Camy could consequently become a gambling forum history professor. Phew, I bet they would be relieved to know all their hard backbreaking work really paid off... and would be proud as hell!

I met my mom's dad once when I was a kid and he visited the states. He died shortly thereafter. No idea what he or anyone before him did. He spent his whole life in some small town in the mountains east of Naples

Don't know any relatives from my father's side. He was an orphan and joined the Navy at age 17
