if a person cant tip 5 bucks or so for 5 beers, maybe that person need to go to the 7 eleven and buy a 6 pack and take it home, no tipping there

Maybe people need to be a little less cheap? I can't imagine living like a cheapskate.

I do think the biggest bunch of crap is if you go to a bar, order a bottled beer at the counter, bartender turns around picks up bottle and hands it to you, they get a 25% tip assuming beer is $4. Seems people are obligated to give them $1 for absolutely nothing.

Bottled water is a monumental ripoff every place, even by the case. But far worse in singles. Tipping too much for it on top is crazy!

Hey, what is that crappy aftertaste in some of the bottled water. I was dumb enough..... I though that was why I was drinking it bottled.... to get away from any sort of weird taste.

And....... remember when AIR for a tire was free for God's sake?

Been in Italy, Greece and Spain all summer - no one tips at all over here unless they're American - if you pay with a credit card there is not even a line to add a tip so it would have to be cash - I've been leaving 10-15% here and sometimes the waiters ask if it is a tip - I'm sure they get paid on a different system than in the US though

His point is that the action of the bartender is less than 10 seconds total, and that minimal effort doesn't really warrant a $1 tip.
But you don’t want to stiff him or leave change-so you are stuck if paying by the beer.
Do that 8 times and pay an extra $8 for a tip that should really hover around $5 -$6. Not much difference, but his main objection is based on principle in the first place.
Not to mention the service you can get from these people can be atrocious depending on the time and place.
I understand there are other things the bartender does, but they get paid (minimally) higher than the rest of the waitstaff.

I waited tables and tended bar through college so I have no problem tipping well, but the since of entitlement in the service industry in general has become an epidemic.

I finally have put me foot down and stopped tipping delivery drivers for pizza. Problem is, I feel like I am in their computer as "lets piss on his pizza" or worse. They build the delivery price into the pizza cost
I always tip them. They use their own vehicles, gas, wear and tear..etc. They may get a flat $2.00 per delivery just to make sure they don't get hosed but all the ones that I've dealt with around here were prompt and pleasant. I always make sure to tip them. I ask myself, is it worth 3-5 dollars so that I don't have to go out and get it?

I just don't understand why we are tipping the bartender for handing me a beer. Just build it into the price and pay your employees. I know a bunch of waiters and bartenders and people can do their jobs easily. I understand some people are making their living, but it is the career path they chose
