being a physician for so many years (and being from south carolina) im sure you are a little behind on the latest medical break throughs, those books 20 years ago are a little out dated

What if the cure for cancer is found and it is NOT in the US? Americans suffer from Cancer at a much higher rate than the rest of the world. What if the cure is found by an Asian country or an African country? Not saying that it will, but the implications of us (America) needing something that another country discovers are very interesting and scary at the same time.

Cancer isnt one disease as most have pointed out on here. Let me give you an example.
If you told me you had thyroid cancer that doesnt tell me anything. You could have a well differentiated thyroid cancer like a follicular or papillary thyoird carcinoma or you could have one of the most deadliest cancers known to man, anaplastic thyroid carcinoma. Even these can be broken down either further into classes most doctors dont know jack about unless you are an oncologist or pathologist.
Papillary thyroid carcinoma---for the most part is common and you will still keep on ticking
Anaplastic thyroid carcinoma you are dead within 6 months.
Different cancers eventhough everyone and their mother (who are promiscuous by the way) call them cancer.
You could even have benign tumors that will kill you if they grow and compress vessles and or nerves.
The bottom line is there will not be a "cure" for cancer for a long time.
Where we are making progress is detecting cancer earlier and in the field of molecular diagnostics. Unfortunately Obama is in office and is going to cut healthcare costs and most people will not get the molecular testing. You will get a chest X-ray and a mentos unless you are rich and want to pay for the high end testing yourself.

when you live in souhern california doc you have to be able to take if you are going to dish it out, calling another persons opinion stupid on a forum or in real life is asking for argument. sorry if you dont like my opinion but it is what it is. i have made many friends in other fields of medicine especially research (thats what i originally went to school for) and when they tell me they look for ways to suppress symptoms and those cells instead of looking for ways to get rid of them it makes you wonder......

most likely the pharmaceutical company thats making billions, :lol:
when i worked in the pharmacy (about 15 years ago) and helped out with the billing, medicine is so expensive, most people dont realize it because their insurance pays for it, but just ask someone who doesnt have any insurance and they can tell you how expensive medicine is
treatments for any disease are the same way, so expensive. how else can hospitals afford to pay doctors $200+ an hour
