From what I've heard that seems to be about right, I've even heard that some americans traveling over seas put on a canadian flag pin so people think they're canadian not american.

We are pretty much held in contempt if not hated these days, we still get some love from the people that understand the difference between a government and its people but in all the other countries backpackers are advised to put a Canadian Flag on their backpacks to avoid nasty confrontations.
