How about points scored? Dirk is ranked 9th with 27,015. Bird ranked 31st with 21,971. Dirk doesn't get much respect because he's on the Dallas Mavericks imo. Everyone hates Dallas teams.

To say this isn't debatable is insane. You put Dirk in Birds Era he would dominate. Vice versa not so much.

I put Dirk at least on a par with Bird; you clowns who think Bird would dominate today probably think that George Mikan would dominate in the 80's.

Sorry, but this and the post before it are up there with the dumbest things I've ever seen posted in this forum, ever.

Zit who do you think is better Anthony Davis or Larry Bird?

Not better career but better at basketball if aliens were going to come to play us for everything we have.

We can send prime Larry Bird or Anthony Davis right now. If we lose, we all die just to heighten the stakes.

Bird in his prime? You're joking right?

1 of the best players from 1986 isn't better than 1 of the best players from 2014. It really isn't even close.

To think otherwise is just being a biased wanter.

If the above example were to come to fruition, your bias would have us all killed.

You're a complete idiot even comparing Bird in his prime to Anthony Davis.

Dirk's NBA career has been solid, but not on par with Larry.

Nowitzki is a star, while Bird is a Superstar.

Some people don't understand the difference as Superstars are elite & few.

Other Superstars are guys like Jordan, LeBron, Magic, Shaq, etc

Stars are guys like Chris Paul, James Harden, Dwight Howard, etc.

Let's just say there aren't currently many Superstars in the league. ..

You have no clue man.

on 2 = teams a Davis team would be a solid fav over a Bird team. Davis would be at a vast foot speed, athleticism, height, quick twitch advantage over him.

What makes you think it is even close?

Do you honestly have any clue how much pro athletics has advanced in the past 30 years? Everyone was on coke then and now guys train year round so they can make 120 million dollars off 1 contract. Talking to you about this is like telling a little kid Santa Claus isn't real, it's hilarious.

You probably think Walter Payton is better than AP too.

Bird in his prime was considered by many to be the greatest player of all time, and you're comparing him to Anthony Davis. You're an idiot.

Jerry West in his prime is considered 1 of the best ever too. Oscar Robertson? You got him over Anthony Davis too?

This is a great conversation because it really is like telling you Santa isn't real. All you have is "you're an idiot" which obviously doesn't bother me. Do you have anything of substance here or ?

What do you think about the foot speed disparity of today's players compared to 1984? What about the shooting range? Training methods? Dieting? Hell PEDs probably. Back then teams literally thought a 19 foot 2 pointer was a better shot than a 22 foot 3 pointer. Think about that for a second.

Do you realize how quick any skill advantage erodes on a basketball court when at a severe athleticism deficit? Where do you think all white guys went? The game got significantly more athletic over time, starting around the early 90s really.

Steve Largent is considered 1 of the best WRs of all time, you think hes balling in todays NFL compared to Demaryius Thomas and Julio Jones? Sorry man, Santa isn't real. Bird is a legend but he isn't a myth.

Sorry, but there is no one credible that would even consider the abject stupidity that you're spouting. I get the feeling that you're trolling me anyway. Have fun.

It seems weird you want that hard though. It's just sports, can't believe you would have that type of conviction.

I'd go on but its obvious you just wouldn't be able to bring your head around to be objective about an elite player now vs an elite player literally 25-30 years ago. Especially one you probably have many fond memories of rooting for.

Too bad I can't get like HBob to come in here and tell you you're nuts. That would be funny.

I swear to God 5 mins after that exchange I just got really sick and threwup everywhere. Never using Larry Bird to make a larger point about contemporary athletes vs old dudes again. Maybe he is really is the basketball Jesus.

Yes, Patsfan is right. Players have evolved into quicker, stronger, more advanced athletes. Period.

Zit - You are probably one of those that think Mohammed Ali in his prime could last 3 rounds with Mike Tyson in his prime. HAAAA!!!!

Just some good old fashion, "those were the days", lunacy.

Zit is fine....I'm sure Bird is prob his favorite athlete ever and he is a big Cs fan. I kinda made an unfair example to put him in a corner, lol. Obviously if Davis just flops can't really say he is better than Bird but if he continues on any type of trajectory like he is now it just is what it is.

This isn't like Wilt/Russell though where people can play the whole "YOU DIDNT SEE THEM IN THEIR PRIMES" card. Pretty much every significant 80s game is on youtube or ESPN classic or whatever. I mean Danny Ainge is barely better at dribbling with his left hand than me.

BBall wasn't on TV in the 70s so most guys in the 80s didn't really have anyone to pattern their games around whereas now anyone with talent has an AAU daddy telling them how to play by the time they are 14.

It would be a real tough matchup (Bird vs Davis) but Davis would edge him out I think. But Bird is old now and hasn't played in like 20 years.
