I don't think anyone with a half a brain would under estimate this kid. He is and will be a awesome player and was a fantastic fit in Denver. He has become the man on a crap team and made them better. He would however NOT be having the same year if he were wearing a Piston jersey. The Pistons drafted Darko because the felt they needed a big man to compete with the west. They did not expect him to average 30 and grab 20 boards against the best centers at age 18

This may be the dumbest thread I have ever read - Mello is averaging like 26 points the last month - only Shaq put up numbers like Mello his first year - Darko does not play and at some point you have to think he will never play - Mello is in the top 10 in FT attemps as a rookie with one year of college - this comparison is like telling me dog sh$t is more valuable than Gold.

Rip & Mello would have been great. The thought of Ben Wallace and a 7 foot center and throw in Rasheed and it looks much scarier. wHO compaired Mello to Prince? not me. The Pistons like Tayshaun Prince, they like his attitude and his work ethic. Is he better then Mello? hell no! but they feel he will be good enough at that posistion.

Ugho,I'll tell you why who Detroit reminds me of their this year style of play. They can't score bunch on offense to win the games for the defensive coach like the Philly in the past few years even w/ Iverson on board. The problem is on Larry Brown,hands down.

Darko is 18 years old and plays the toughest position in all of basketball... He was the correct draft choice for Detroit to make and will become a ALL STAR Center in the East...

Melo is good but plays a dime a dozen NBA position and Detroit already had RIP and PRINCE to fill those needs... DARKO WILL BE A STUD BY AGE 20!!

(got better as the year went on)

rookie nba at only 19 years old should be a soph in college- avg 20 pts, leading a 17 win team to over 40 wins in a tough western conference(is getting better as this year is progressing)

name any nba player in history of basketball acheived these stats & acheivements at only 19 years of age

NOW, nobody said Carmelo wasn't a great player.. The point here is this; Detroit drafted a guy they wanted to use 2 or 3 years down the road.. They were just fine as is for this year aftre winning 50 games and going to the eastern conf. championship last season.. Darko will be a great player and then in turn a great pick from last years draft!

Drafting Darko was a HUGE mistake. Carmelo Anthony is leading the Nuggets into the playoffs in the far superior Western Conference. Darko may bolt after his contract is up. He has shown nothing so far. Det did not draft Darko with the hope he will be ready to play in 3 years. The time to win in Det is NOW!! TNT NBA analyst Smith calls Darko the "Sam Bowie" of last years draft. Sam Bowie was drafted ahead of Air Jordan.

Chuck - With all due respect, Carmello will not even be HALF as good as Jordan. On the other hand, I don't think Darko will even be AS GOOD as Sam Bowie.

However, to say Darko has shown nothing so far is a little unfair. He is playing during garbage time with the rest of the subs. I don't even think he has played 50 minutes this season.

Ivestigator - I don't think Carmello's numbers would be as good as they are with Denver if he played with Detroit this season. Larry Brown has a habit of bringing in rookies SLOWLY, but he would surely make an impact coming off the bench to give Prince a rest.
