The Bulls weren't trying to tank, they are locked into the 10 seed. They had nothing to play for.

Not sure why you are asking me why they sat 5 starters? I never said they tried to win.

I mean I guess it is kinda lame but I'm just saying I doubt anyone cares in 24 hours that the Mavs didn't go full throttle to make the last play-in spot when the result was likely gonna be the same either way. Doubt anyone is losing sleep over it.

The Eagles/Skins Nate Sudfeld game was a lot worse, sunday night football, you just let your rival into the playoffs

But they got Devonta Smith with that pick, who can argue with the results? If they made 1 more play and won the superbowl a few months ago, doubt anyone recalling it.

82 games has always been the problem. They should have 82 teams play 42 games

You simply can't have guys sitting for "rest" with 2 games left in the season and a play-off spot on the line.

League needs to do something to stop the blatant tanking. Not to mention you have your star player go 1 quarter and sit the rest of the game for no true reason.

I know Cuban believes he is the smartest guy in the room but fine the fuck 100 million.

Cuban has identified as a liberal. That means he is untouchable. Now, if he called a black 19 year old boy, he would be forced to sell the team.

Hopefully the Pacers win the lottery. That team has been good about 2-3 years in my lifetime.

I think the lottery is the most exciting part of the NBA playoffs.

You really give a shit? Team sucked and was facing a huge uphill battle either way.

Making the play-in as 10 seed is hardly the same thing as getting in the nfl playoffs. They were done.

Would it have really altered their draft position much if they at least tried to make it and failed?

They were probably not making it either way but it didn’t seem like there was much downside to at least trying to win

Just sucks for the fans more than anything. Pay $ to watch Luka and you end up seeing shitty players.

It’s 2023, if you’re paying to go to a nba reg season game in the last week of the season id say you signed up for that possibility

Yeah though the result (Mavs not even making the play in tournament) will be a nice talking point for the ESPN shows .

Start the “Luka needs to find a way out of Dallas” talk

NBA investigating Mavs for sitting key players amid playoff hunt.

The NBA will investigate the Dallas Mavericks' decision to sit out several key players in Friday night's 115-112 loss to the Chicago Bulls that eliminated the team from Western Conference play-in contention.
"The NBA commenced an investigation today into the facts and circumstances surrounding the Dallas Mavericks' roster decisions and game conduct with respect to last night's Chicago Bulls-Mavericks game, including the motivations behind those actions," NBA spokesman Mike Bass said Saturday afternoon.
Dallas entered the day tied with the Bulls for the 10th-best lottery odds and owes the New York Knicks a top-10-protected pick as the final payment for the Kristaps Porzingis trade.
Mavs coach Jason Kidd called it an "organizational decision" to rest the majority of Dallas' regular rotation, attributing the choice to governor Mark Cuban and general manager Nico Harrison.
The Mavs announced late Friday morning that All-Star guard Kyrie Irving (right foot injury recovery), shooting guard Tim Hardaway Jr. (left ankle soreness), small forward Josh Green (rest), and power forward/centers Maxi Kleber (right hamstring injury recovery) and Christian Wood (rest) would all sit out against the Bulls, essentially for precautionary reasons.
All-Star guard Luka Doncic played the first 12 minutes, 35 seconds before sitting out the remainder of the game.
"It's not so much waving the white flag," Kidd said after the game. "It's decisions sometimes are hard in this business. We're trying to build a championship team. With this decision, this is maybe a step back. But hopefully it leads to going forward." The Mavs do not plan for Doncic or any of the players who sat out to play in Sunday's season finale against the San Antonio Spurs, Kidd said.
Mavs governor Mark Cuban, who paid a $600,000 fine in 2018 for publicly admitting the Mavs were tanking, said Wednesday night that "of course I understand" the thought process from fans that protecting the lottery position is Dallas' smartest strategy down the stretch. "The guys don't wanna do that," Cuban said Wednesday. "Players aren't gonna do that. Players don't do that." Cuban has not responded to requests for comment regarding the organization's decision to sit out several players or the league's investigation.

I’ve been hearing “this sucks, nba is a joke etc etc” for a long time now and Bradley Beal and Zach Lavine are gonna make almost a half billion over the next 4 years (counting this current season)

I’m sure some day it’ll reach a tipping point but the tanking discussions just been beaten into the ground.

Cuban was behind this. He will be fined but in my opinion he should be at the very minimum suspended for a year. This is worse than what the Sixers did during the process. This is trying to lose a game to not make the playoffs to keep a lottery pick. The Sixers built a roster to not compete but you knew that going in when the season started. The Sixers didn't try to throw games by sitting all their starters. Philadelphia tried to accumulate draft assets which is perfectly fine. To sit all your starters so you could keep a pick and not try to make the playoffs is literally criminal. No different than fixing a boxing match.

How about if you made a bet on the Mavericks to make the playoffs. The league is bed with the online sports books now. This attacks the very integrity of a wager. There will be an investigation into this but Adam Silver should have stepped in before the game was played. The Mavericks are going to use injury excuses for the players who sat out. That is not going to fly. I had no vested interest in the Mavs but I am fascinated how this is going to reflect on the NBA,
I believe this is a little dramatic

I always thought the play-in was dumb, just another example of the nba overthinking things and trying to spur discussion or go for a cheap novelty act. 4 years ago there wasn’t even a play-in,

You mean some bum 11th seed might have realistic options about their chances late in the year and opt for a draft pick? Who could’ve seen that coming?

They should let every team in the lottery
Every non playoff team gets 2 balls
Every playoff team gets 1 ball

The Mavs sucked down the stretch after acquiring Cryrie

Cuban knows they suck. He's hoping the draft bails him out

Is it possible? Can Cuban be another Jerry Jones? Must be something in the bottled water in Dallas

That would make people think it is more fixed than we already know it is.

Imagine the Warriors signing Durant and then getting the 1st pick in the draft. No one would ever think that was legit.... Or especially one of these big market teams.
