McDavid is on track to win his fifth Art Ross and likely his third MVP with 92 points in 50 games so far. The Oilers phenom is the only player since 2000 to crack 90-plus points in 50 games, He's accomplished the feat twice.

McDavid is averaging 1.84 points per game this season, which puts him on pace for the NHL's first 150-point campaign since Mario Lemieux had 161 in 1995-96. Edmonton's captain also paces the NHL with 41 goals, just three shy of matching his career best with 32 games to go.

I don't follow hockey much anymore. But I do look at the stat leaders every so often.. it seems every year McDavid in on top and his teammate is 2nd. Is the rest of the team terrible from bad management? It's been what 6 or 7 years in the league now and it's not showing in the wins and losses. Have the had the same coach the whole time? Maybe a change would help?

No elite defensemen and goaltending.

All Stanley Cup champions have at least one, and usually both.

penguins won a couple with no elite goaltender and Letang is hardly a shutdown dee, couldnt crack a team canada lineup in his heyday

certainly makes it easier to have a horse and a goalie that can steal a game

k, agree to disagree. Letang is more of being on the right team /right time . He wins NADA if he played for the Sabres, Columbus, etc... No one is starting a team with letang or carlson. Again, Letang was passed for Team Canada's roster multiple times.

but if you guys want to argue letang /carlson are 'elite' okay, They are no makar, bourque, hedman, lidsrom, keith .

Shea Weber better than both those guys , never won a cup...never lucky to play with sid and malkin lol

Yes, Weber would have been a great pickup for the Oilers. That's the kind of trade they need to make. Or Pietrangelo when they had the chance. Ditto for goaltending.
