I could agree with that accept they were shut out for the entire 3rd quater so there 1/2 time adjustments did not work until Canes D got tired in the 4th... just imo...
i was there in person and then had the luxury of rewatching the game on tape
florida stopped themselves more than people realize. live at the game, i am smacking my forehead everytime florida had a guy trip over his feet, or have a personal foul penalty backing
then i come home and hear the announcers laying this miami youth spin, and miami outplaying florida angle on thick and i knew i would come onto different sites and people would have the same thoughts as those that announced the game.
miami had a good gameplan coming into the game and florida didnt adjust 1st half, and that is really the bottom line.
miami definitely brought some different blitzes and had tebow running around there a bit. and there was one drive in the game where i thought tebow was flustered and made a throw a little too quick in the pocket.
but overall, florida shot themselves in the foot. and that is probably to be expected in the 2nd game of the season, and the first time of the year you face a good defense.
meyers post game comments summed it up: they should have started using play action earlier, they should have made their adjustments earlier.
1st drive of 3q for gators was 3 and out. but on the 2nd drive they drive 40 yards down the field and on 3rd down and short demps trips over his feet after a completion in front of the first down marker and they are forced to punt after a couple of 1st downs. 3rd drive of the 3Q gators drive 86 yards down the field, drive takes 5 and a half minutes, when they get to the goalline, the quarter ends, and the game went into the 4th with the score 9-3 and they punched it in to start the 4th.
next drive started at 10 minutes left in the 4th, and gators drive 95 yards for the TD. next drive they get a 42 yard TD pass called back for illegal procedure. next drive they kick the FG.
so besides the very first drive of the 3rd quarter, UF moved the ball at will the entire 2nd half - minus a shoestring trip and an illegal procedure.
SO let's sum this up and move on. My OPINION of course!
Miami comes out with a great game plan first half. They disguise some blitz packages and pressure Tebow right up the gut. They take the Gators out of rhythm. Florida leads 9-3 going into the 2nd half.
Florida comes out 2nd half with a quick 3 and out, but after that, they basically move the ball at will the rest of the game, every offensive possession from there on out.
Miami never crossed the 30 yard line offensively and the closest they came to scoring was a 50 yard field goal.
It's easy to get caught up in announcer hype, but Miami wont always have such a great game plan heading into every game defensively, and I think a lot of bettors will overvalue the Canes moving forward and undervalue Florida.
This is actually your typical formula for a rivalry game.
