I wouldn't be too quick writing USC off. In the PC era, USC has only lost one "big game." They stumble, in the games everyone thinks will be "easy."
The exception, of course was Tex in the rose bowl.
Tex has had a tough string of games, no disputing that. But, the picture gets a whole lot fuzzier when you are fantasizing about future pairings......and who'll beat who.
Looks to me like Penn St has one berth in the final game. Who will be their dance partner? I doubt USC can climb over enough teams to get their. Bama, Ok, Tex or Tex Tech?
Tomorrows BCS?
Does Tex drop below USC?
1-4
Ala
Penn St
Ok
Tex Tech
5-7
SC or Tex or Fla
8-9
Ok St
Utah
Here's a better question? SHOULD Texas drop below USC? Of course they shouldn't. They lost on a last second play to a top 10 team on the road who is unbeaten after playing 3 other top 10 teams in a row. USC lost to GAR-BAGE and has beaten nobody the caliber of Okahoma, Mizzou, or Ok St let alone 3 combined.
While the Pac-10 is down this year, Southern Cal is dominating the conference severely. Their scoring margin and yardage margin in conference play is enormous. To say they are barely winning games is downright silly.
Dominating? They have a loss in which they were DOMINATED and then won a squeeker against Arizona. In a flat out LOUSY conference. Wash & WSU are two of the worst Pac 10 teams ever. They are on par with North Texas! Poor Oregon is on what their 5th QB? Come on. There are several teams at the top this year but USC does not belong. They've been overrated each year while the media calls them the best team ever & then they squeek out Pac 10 teams with an occasional blow out & get a free pass. Then they get to play a bowl game at home in warm weather against a team that hasn't played in about two months after breaking for Thanksgiving Holiday, then final exams & then home again with their families for Christmas in the cold weather where they live.
Every year, best team ever with the most talent. Other than a few guys, where are the impact players in the NFL? Most of them flop. Mike Williams, Jarrett, leinart blah blah blah. Most talent but Miami, FSU, Ohio State, Michigan, etc produce more pros all day long. When does the love affair stop?
How about they are a good team with good talent & a VERY good coach that given time can devise a game plan to beat almost anyone.
But all true.
But all true.
I got off an a tangent but my point was that people are praising USC but they aren't even "dominating" the TERRIBLE conference they are in this year. The Mountain West has absolutely smoked the Pac 10. Not just a fluke win or two. There is no way they deserve to be near a title game this year. I'm NOT (repeat NOT) saying they are, but based on ytd performances, you could say TCU is better than USC. Really, the only thing keeping us from making such a comparison is "image" & history. But if people shed their bias & look at it objectively, it's not that far fetched. But what do I know, college football puts food on my table so I put my money where my mouth is every week. I can't afford to be biased.
Not so. The very same cat calls last season from all the jealous fans from other schools... but that "weakest of all" conferences put out more NFL players than any of the rest in'08 and they have fewer schools than the B-12, B-10 and SEC. It's all a bunch of laughable cherry picking and whining from all the losers who can't stand to see USC whup everyone's ass, and who takes on all comers year after year, and loses only to those teams from the "weakest of all" Pac-10. Bunch of hypocrites.
Who is jealous? They didn't whip Ore St or AZ. They are a top notch program but like I said, how many impact players in the NFL from USC compared to how many they should have if they are really "by far the most talented team" each year? Their WRs generally flop when they get to the NFL. They can't get open. Know why? What about the other guys that suddenly aren't that great when they go pro? The tricks Pete & USC staff teach them don't work when you get to NFL. Speaks volumes about great coaching but not unrivaled talent.
That's a moronic conclusion because when you lose as many to the NFL as the Pac-10 did, you will naturally have younger less experienced players left to start the following season. If that doesn't make any sense then you wouldn't see just how talented they are too. Given most of a season to get some experience, they are much stronger now than when they played all the senior laden players from Utah etc. I'm not worried about it and I wouldn't use it as an excuse or reason for anything though it is also true. It's just pointless argument because USC's schedule this season does not speak to USC' strengths. It just fails to prove it. It doesn't prove they are weak or any worse or better than they are. They've dominated as many if not more opponents than any other team but USC's detractors will try to use one or two similar games (similar to LSU, Florida, OU...) it as proof that they can't comptete in or win a NC game. Bullshit. Most whiners are afraid of them and are using every angle they can think of to build a case against them so they don't have to play them. You are boring because it's the same thing year after year.
You can name some flops but there are plenty of skill position players and linemen holding their own and doing just fine in the NFL. You sound like you've been reading up on whormoan lately but even his recent "flops" are making names for themselves in the NFL now... the latest being Lyndale White. It takes a year or 2 or 3 but people like you think if they don't make an immediate impact (like whormoan), they are failures. That is moronic, stupid and very incorrect. The only problems with your argument are the facts.
You are rambling nonsense. Most of us are not USC detractors. Like I said, this how I feed myself so I can't afford to have biases. Just that some of us are able to see things for what they are. Tell you what, from many years of watching all sports fans I have to conclude that USC, Raiders & Lakers fans are the most delusional about how good their teams are. Nothing against the Raiders, and Lakers/USC have had many yrs of success obviously, but socal people just happen to be the most detached from reality of all Americans. Just a simple fact. Hey, socal is great but this is all true. Don't believe it? Spend some weekends in Las Vegas sportsbooks with all the socal fans. Unbelievable.

You are what you read. How can anyone in Las Vegas vouch for a scientific sample of fans? That is absolutely the most self serving blinding way to judge anyone I've ever heard of... fanatical gamblers who have their money wrapped up in their own bias and you think they resemble the real fan base? DUH! I can't help you because you are blinded by your own "personal" facts. You don't know their fan base. You've never read a USC blog. You have no idea how intelligent these people really are. You are a fool. Move away from Vegas. It's tainting your mind.
Nobody said USC can't compete or win a NC. We all know they can. In one game, with time to plan & enough of a layoff where one of the teams may be flat or rusty anyone can beat anyone. Even your buddy on here said any top 10 team can beat another. Just like Ore St can beat USC. The issue is that they don't deserve to be there this year. That's all.
I have lived & travelled all over the country. Just stating the Vegas example because it is an easy way to get a heavy dose of irrational sports fans. lol My mind is tainted? lol Not picking on anyone on a USC fan blog either. It may be full of intelligent people. I wouldn't know. Open your eyes though. You are clearly biased because you refuse to accept facts. I didn't choose USC to pick on because I have a beef with USC. Just saying what I see.
