Rested Cardinals await Steelers
October 17, 2015

After a rout of the Lions at Detroit, Bruce Arians took his Cardinals to a resort in West Virginia rather than head back to Arizona.

With another road game in the East on Sunday at Pittsburgh, the travel itinerary seemed to make plenty of sense.

And with the Steelers coming off a gut-wrenching Monday nighter at San Diego that they won on the final play, well, Arians' bunch might be the more-rested squad.

Arians spent eight seasons in Pittsburgh, mostly as offensive coordinator, winning two Super Bowls before being exiled.

He since has won two NFL Coach of the Year awards, in 2012 as an interim in Indianapolis while Chuck Pagano fought leukemia, and last season with the Cardinals. While he insists returning to the Steel City is no big deal and that he has done it before, others know better.

''Knowing him and how prepared that he is,'' Steelers star receiver Antonio Brown said, ''I'm sure he's going to want to come in here and put on a show, being how many people counted him out and wanted him out of here.''

He has the team to do it, too. Arizona (4-1) has scored a league-best 190 points and allowed 90; the 100-point differential is by far tops in the NFL.

The Steelers also have a potent offense - when Ben Roethlisberger, not Mike Vick, is at quarterback. He returned from a left knee injury to practice this week on a limited basis and is not likely to go Sunday.

''It's hard to watch when you really want to be out there,'' Roethlisberger said. ''I'm just trying to be the best on-the-sideline guy I can be. I don't want to be overbearing because Mike's been doing this for a long time and he's a real pro. I'm just here to help him in any way I can.''

The action began Thursday night with New Orleans beat Atlanta 31-21, handing the Falcons their first loss of the season.

Off this week are Dallas, Oakland, St. Louis and Tampa, all with 2-3 records.

New England (4-0) at Indianapolis (3-2)

Ah, ''Deflategate II.'' BORING!

Let's concentrate on football, not under-inflated footballs.

Indy should get back starting quarterback Andrew Luck, but it won both games he missed with a shoulder issue.

New England has been on a rampage - sure, Tom Brady being ticked off about the whole scandal plays into that.

''I'm always pretty motivated regardless of the opponent, regardless of the team or the week, whether it's a preseason game, whether it's a regular-season game,'' Brady said.

''They're all important because there are so few of those where you get an opportunity in your life, so I don't take it for granted.''

Still, isn't there any human part of you that wants it a little extra this week?

`I'm a human,'' Brady said. ''There's no doubt. I'm definitely human.''

San Diego (2-3) at Green Bay (5-0)

Green Bay's fourth home game already, and with the bye next week, the Packers are sitting in a great spot. Their pass defense has been a revelation, and they have found a diverse rush in which eight players have played a part in getting an NFC-high 20 sacks.

San Diego lost in the final second on Monday night against the Steelers and now has to travel to Lambeau Field. The Chargers are 1-9 against Green Bay and Dan Fouts was their quarterback when they took that game in 1984.

Carolina (4-0) at Seattle (2-3)

A Panthers win would establish them as a contender in the NFC - and make everyone wonder when the Seahawks will get straightened out. Of course, Seattle was 3-3 in 2014 and wound up in the Super Bowl.

Carolina should get back star linebacker Luke Kuechly to its solid defense, but it's the rushing game, led by QB Cam Newton and RB Jonathan Stewart, that has been just as impressive.

Seattle also expects back a key ingredient, RB Marshawn Lynch, though rookie Thomas Rawls filled in well. The Seahawks have gone 16 straight games dating back to last season with at least 100 yards rushing as a team and lead the NFL in rushing with 142.4 yards per game.

Denver (5-0) at Cleveland (2-3)

Somehow, Josh McCown is the more prolific quarterback in this matchup, although Peyton Manning is 6-0 lifetime vs. Cleveland and the Broncos have won 10 straight against the Browns. McCown passed for a franchise-record 457 yards last week in leading a comeback win at the Ravens.

He's the first QB in NFL history with more than 450 yards passing, two TDs, a TD rushing and no interceptions in the same game and has thrown for 1,154 yards in the past three games.

The Broncos are one win from joining New England as the only original American Football League franchises to reach 450 regular-season wins. Their defense ranks first in the league, making up for a pedestrian offense thus far.

Cincinnati (5-0) at Buffalo (3-2)

The previous time Cincinnati won its first six games was 1988, when it made the Super Bowl. Andy Dalton is off to the best start of his career with a 115.6 passer rating, highest in team history through five games, as part of the NFL's second-ranked offense.

Like the Bengals, the Bills barely squeezed out a victory last week and could be without quarterback Tyrod Taylor; EJ Manuel would start. Injuries have damaged Buffalo's offense - top RB LeSean McCoy has been sidelined by a hamstring problem and WR Sammy Watkins is coming back from a calf issue.

Chicago (2-3) at Detroit (0-5)

After a horrific start, the Bears have responded to new coach John Fox with two straight victories, showing more gumption than in recent seasons. A victory at the winless Lions would actually make people in the Windy City stop obsessing on the Cubs. Well, maybe not.

The previous time the Lions looked as bad as they did in last Sunday's 42-17 walloping by Arizona was in 2008, when they went 0-16. A lopsided loss to Chicago could make a revival of such thoughts much less outlandish.

New York Giants (3-2) at Philadelphia (2-3), Monday night

The NFC East is so wide open that when these two meet in the season finale, it could be decisive. Still, the winner in prime time gets a leg up.

New York enters short-handed at receiver but on a three-game winning streak. Philadelphia's defense has come alive behind end Fletcher Cox, who had a career-high three sacks with two forced fumbles and one recovery last week vs. the Saints. Rookie LB Jordan Hicks has 25 tackles, a sack, three fumble recoveries, one forced fumble and one interception in the last four games.

Washington (2-3) at New York Jets (3-1)

The Jets have New England next, so looking past this one could be tempting and very counterproductive. Coming off a bye, and with standout defensive lineman Sheldon Richardson returning from a four-game suspension, expect New York's stingy defense to be even more miserly.

The Redskins are vastly improved over 2014, Jay Gruden's first season as coach, but they folded late at Atlanta last week. Kirk Cousins, who threw a decisive pick-6 in overtime, usually struggles at the Meadowlands.

Baltimore (1-4) at San Francisco (1-4)

Hardly the Harbowl with coach Jim Harbaugh having left the dysfunctional 49ers for Michigan and older brother John in the midst of his worst season in Baltimore.

The Ravens have won four straight against the Niners, including the 2013 Super Bowl, from which the 49ers have only four starters still around. Both teams fell at the end of their tight Week 4 games.

Kansas City (1-4) at Minnesota (2-2)

The outdoors seem to agree with the Vikings, who are in their second and final season at TCF Bank Stadium before heading back inside in their new building. They've won five in a row in their temporary home.

Kansas City is reeling after some devastatingly close defeats and losing star running back Jamaal Charles with a torn right ACL. The Chiefs have allowed a league-worst 14 sacks, but Minnesota has not displayed a potent pass rush.

Miami (1-3) at Tennessee (1-3)

Miami's first game since Joe Philbin was fired as coach, replaced by Dan Campbell.

''It's only Week (6 and we have) 12 games,'' said DT Ndamukong Suh, a major underachiever after signing the richest free-agent contract in NFL history for a defensive player. ''We put ourselves in a hole, but it's not too late to get us out of it.''

The Titans have the league's top-ranked pass defense, yielding 188 yards a game.

Houston (1-4) at Jacksonville (1-4)
Although the Texans have won seven of the last nine in this series, five of the past seven meetings have been decided by seven points or less.

Houston goes back to Brian Hoyer at quarterback, and his top target, DeAndre Hopkins, leads the NFL with 578 yards receiving, looking for a fourth consecutive 100-yard game, which would tie Andre Johnson's franchise record.

Jacksonville expects to get DT Sen'Derrick Marks and RB Denard Robinson back from knee injuries.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Sunday Night Football betting preview: Patriots at Colts
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Over has gone 7-0 in the last seven meetings between the Patriots and Colts.

New England Patriots at Indianapolis Colts (+7.5, 54.5)

While the New England Patriots, Indianapolis Colts and likely the majority of the world have grown tired of "Deflategate," the saga is once again brought to the forefront on Sunday as the respective teams meet for the first time since last season's AFC Championship Game. Tom Brady was initially suspended four games by the league for his alleged role in the scandal, but a federal court overruled the decision that stemmed from the Patriots' decisive 45-7 rout of the Colts on Jan. 18.

Brady, who threw for three touchdowns in that contest, had two through the air and one on the ground in New England's 30-6 rout of Dallas last week. While the Patriots are attempting to reach 5-0 for the first time since their perfect regular season in 2007, Indianapolis has rebounded from a tough start to win three straight contests. Andrew Luck has been a bystander in the last two with an ailing right shoulder, but owner Jim Irsay expects the former top overall pick to play on Sunday. As for any lingering feelings from last season's playoff loss, Colts coach Chuck Pagano did his best to put it to bed by saying, "This team hasn't played that team, right? Got no relevance."

TV: 8:30 p.m. ET, NBC.

LINE HISTORY: Books opened the Colts as 7-point home dogs and that's gone up to +7.5. The total opened 55 and is down to 54.5.

WEATHER: N/A

INJURY REPORT:

Patriots - WR Aaron Dobson (Probable, undisclosed), RB Dion Lewis (Probable, abdominal), OL Ryan Wendell (Probable, illness), LB Jon Bostic (Questionable, acquired), DL Trey Flowers (Questionable, knee), LB Dont'a Hightower (Questionable, ribs), CB Tarell Brown (Doubtful, foot), WR Brian Tyms (Out indefinitely, foot), T Nate Solder (I-R, elbow), OL Bryan Stork (I-R, concussion), WR Brandon LaFell (I-R, foot), LB Dane Fletcher (I-R, knee), DT Chris Jones (I-R, calf), DB Darryl Roberts (I-R, wrist), FB James Develin (I-R, shin), WR Brandon Gibson (I-R, knee).

Colts - LB Bjoern Werner (Probable, hamstring), CB Vontae Davis (Probable, calf), WR T.Y. Hilton (Probable, groin), QB Andrew Luck (Probable, shoulder), LB Nate Irving (Questionable, knee), LB Jerrell Freeman (Questionable, groin), RB Tyler Varga (I-R, concussion), CB D'Joun Smith (I-R, knee), DT Arthur Jones (I-R, ankle), CB Tevin Mitchel (I-R, shoulder).

POWER RANKINGS: Patriots (-8.5) + Colts (-2.0) + home field (-3.0) = Colts +3.5

WHAT THE CAPPERS SAY: "When the defending Super Bowl champs go into the bye week with a 34 point win and come out of the bye with a 24 point win, it?s time to raise their power rating! In two games as the starter, 40-year-old Matt Hasselbeck has a QB rating of 95.0. In three games as the starter, elite QB Andrew Luck?'s rating is only 65.0, primed for a big rise."

ABOUT THE PATRIOTS (4-0 SU, 3-1 ATS, 2-2 O/U): Rob Gronkowski resides two touchdowns shy of becoming the fifth tight end with at least 60 in his career. The mammoth Gronkowski has 300 yards receiving and six scores in his last four meetings with Indianapolis, but has been kept out of the end zone in New England's past two games. Julian Edelman (team-leading 34 receptions) was held to "just" four catches against the Cowboys, but recorded a season-high 120 yards.

ABOUT THE COLTS (3-2 SU, 1-4 ATS, 2-3 O/U): After a sluggish start to the season, Pro Bowl wideout Andre Johnson had a pair of touchdown receptions in the Colts' 27-20 victory over Houston on Oct. 8. Fellow veteran Frank Gore found the end zone versus the Texans and has three scores in the last three weeks. Indianapolis turned to a familiar face on Wednesday and signed running back Ahmad Bradshaw, who had eight touchdowns (two rushing, six receiving) in 2014 before a broken leg ended his season.

TRENDS:

* Over is 7-0 in the last seven meetings.
* Patriots are 4-0 ATS in their last four meetings.
* Patriots are 35-14-2 ATS in their last 51 games in October.
* Under is 4-0 in Colts last four home games.

CONSENSUS: Sixty-eight percent of users are backing the Patriots.

Report: Bills to start Manuel at QB

The Buffalo Bills have not named a starting quarterback for Sunday's game against the undefeated Cincinnati Bengals, but ESPN is reporting that E.J. Manuel will get the call in place of the injured Tyrod Taylor.

Manuel, who took the majority of the first-team snaps in practice, has not played this season after losing the job to Taylor. Manuel completed 58 percent of his passes for 838 yards, five touchdowns and three interceptions in five games last season.

Taylor was limited in practice after suffering a sprained MCL in Buffalo's 14-13 victory over the Tennessee Titans last week. The sixth round draft pick in 2011 by Baltimore has a 70.1 percent completion rate while throwing for 1,097 yards, nine touchdowns and four interceptions in five games this season.

Redskins rule out WR Jackson

Washington Redskins wide receiver DeSean Jackson was ruled out from playing Sunday's game against the New York Jets because of a hamstring injury.

Jackson was downgraded from questionable after not traveling with the team to New Jersey on Saturday.

Jackson was injured in the Redskins' season opener without making a reception.

Eagles WR Agholor ruled out

Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver Nelson Agholor will miss Monday night's game against the visiting New York Giants with an ankle injury.

Agholor practiced on a limited basis Saturday after not participating Thursday and Friday.

Running back Ryan Mathews is questionable with a groin injury. He has rushed for a team-high 205 yards this season.

The Eagles will be without linebacker Kiko Alonso (knee), defensive end Brandon Bair (groin), and linebacker Mychal Kendricks (hamstring).

Giants WR Beckham Jr. questionable

New York Giants wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. is listed as questionable for Monday night's game at the Philadelphia Eagles because of a hamstring injury.

Beckham, who has not practiced this week, sustained the injury last Sunday against the San Francisco 49ers.

Tom Coughlin said he hopes Beckham can practice Sunday.

Another injured wide receiver, Rueben Randle, is probable with an injured hamstring. He has been limited in practice this week.

Also probable are guard Justin Pugh (ankle) and defensive end George Selvie (calf).

The Giants have several players listed as questionable, including defensive end Robert Ayers back (hamstring), linebackers Jon Beason (concussion) and Jonathan Casillas (calf), and cornerback Trumaine McBride (groin/illness).

New York ruled out cornerback Prince Amukamara (pectoral), linebacker Devon Kennard (hamstring) and wide receiver Victor Cruz (calf).

Ravens RB Forsett a game-day decision

Baltimore Ravens starting running back Justin Forsett was listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the San Francisco 49ers because of an ankle injury, and coach John Harbaugh said Friday that Forsett will be a game-day decision.

Forsett ran for 150 and 121 yards in the Ravens' last two games, and has played well recently after a slow start.

If Forsett cannot play, the Ravens will be without two running backs. Lorenzo Taliaferro was placed on season-ending injured reserve on Wednesday because of a foot injury.

Rookie running back Buck Allen could be the starter on Sunday if Forsett can't go. Allen has rushed for 124 yards, with a 4.8 average per carry this season.

Bears place DE Ferguson on IR

The Chicago Bears placed defensive end Ego Ferguson on season-ending injured reserve Saturday and signed defensive lineman Bruce Gaston.

The Bears had listed Ferguson as doubtful for Sunday's game against the Detroit Lions with a knee injury. The second-year player appeared in four games this season, making three tackles. Ferguson has appeared in 20 games with one start over two seasons, recording 36 tackles and two sacks.

Gaston has appeared in two games this season with the Green Bay Packers, with one tackle. The 6-foot-2, 310-pound Gaston entered the NFL in 2014 with the Arizona Cardinals as an undrafted free agent out of Purdue

Panthers have slumped in games following a bye week

The bye week is supposed to be a week where teams get extra time to prepare, rest and gameplan for their next matchup. But apparently Ron Rivera and the Carolina Panthers did not get the memo.

In the Ron Rivera era, the Panthers have gone 0-4 straight up and against the spread in games following their bye week.

That's the spot the Panthers are in as they visit the Seattle Seahawks Sunday afternoon. The Seahawks opened as 6.5-point home faves, but that has since moved to -7.

Packers rolling along at Lambeau Field

The Green Bay Packers have reeled off 11 consecutive wins at Lambeau Field and will look to make it a cool dozen with the San Diego Chargers in town Sunday afternoon.

They've been an extremely good wager in those as well, posting a record of 9-1-1 against the spread.

The Pack have gone 3-0 SU and ATS on home turf this season and the only ATS loss they suffered during their recent stretch was back in Week 14 last season when they defeated the Atlanta Falcons 43-37, but failed to cover as 13.5-point favorites.

Books opened the Packers as 9.5-point home faves but that has gone up a full point to -10.5.

Bears backers look for slump in Detroit to end Sunday

The Chicago Bears have won just two of their past five trips to Detroit to face the Lions and have lost all five of those visits against the spread.

Chicago's last win in Detroit was 2012 when it triumphed 26-24 but failed to cover the spread as a 3-point road favorite.

Ford Field will be the setting Sunday as the Bears visit their NFC North rivals. Books opened the Bears as 2.5-point road pups, but that has since moved to +3.

Chance of snow at Ralph Wilson Stadium Sunday

According to weather forecasts, there is a 41 percent chance of snow in Buffalo when the Bills host the Cincinnati Bengals at Ralph Wilson Stadium Sunday afternoon.

Temperatures in Buffalo are expected to be around 40 degrees and wind will blow toward the southeast end zone at around six miles per hour.

The Bills are presently 3-point home underdogs and the total is down to 43 after opening at 45.

Rain in the forecast as Seahawks host Panthers

According to weather forecasts, there is a 54 percent chance of showers in Seattle when the Seahawks host the Carolina Panthers at CenturyLink Field Sunday afternoon.

Temperatures in Seattle will be in the low-60s with wind blowing across the field at around three miles per hour.

Books opened Seattle as a 6.5-point home favorite, but that has been adjusted to -7. The total opened at 42 and is down to 40.5.

MNF - Giants at Eagles
October 18, 2015

The NFC East race is going to be a fight to the finish as only one team sits above the .500 mark entering Week 6. The Giants have overcome an 0-2 start in which they blew two games late to win three in a row and assume the top spot in the division, heading to Philadelphia on Monday night to battle the Eagles. Chip Kelly’s offense expected to be one of the most explosive in the league after putting up monster numbers in the preseason, but the Eagles finally busted out in last week’s blowout of the Saints.

Philadelphia (2-3 SU, 2-3 ATS) gained 519 yards in a 39-17 rout of New Orleans last Sunday, as Sam Bradford eclipsed the 300-yard passing mark for the second time this season, throwing for 333 yards and two touchdowns. The Eagles cashed as 6 ½-point ‘chalk,’ marking the first time in four tries this season Philadelphia has covered in the favorite role. DeMarco Murray rushed for a season-high 83 yards and one touchdown, as the Eagles improved to 2-0 when gaining at least 100 yards on the ground.

New York (3-2 SU, 3-2 ATS) goes for its first four-game winning streak since 2013, as the Giants held off the 49ers last Sunday night, 30-27. The Giants squandered fourth quarter leads in their first two losses to the Cowboys and Falcons, but Tom Coughlin’s team turned the tables on San Francisco thanks to an Eli Manning touchdown pass to Larry Donnell in the final minute. New York failed to cover as 7 ½-point favorites, but Manning threw for a season-high 441 yards and three touchdowns, while outgaining San Francisco by 145 yards.

The Eagles swept the Giants in 2014, which includes a 27-0 shutout at Lincoln Financial Field last October. Philadelphia limited Manning to 151 yards, while wide receiver Victor Cruz suffered a right knee injury that ended his season in the embarrassing loss. In the second matchup at Met Life Stadium in the final week of the regular season, the Eagles outlasted the Giants, 34-26, as Manning threw for 429 yards in the defeat. In spite of last year’s blanking at Philadelphia, the Giants have split the last four meetings at the Linc, with all four game finishing ‘under’ the total.

This is a key game for the Eagles, who already have lost twice inside the division to the Cowboys and Redskins. Dallas enters Week 6 one game out of first place in the NFC East at 2-3, but own the best divisional record at 2-0, while New York has split its first two divisional contests. Under Kelly, the Eagles posted 4-2 marks in the NFC East in each of his first two seasons, while going 3-4 SU and 2-5 ATS at home, which includes a loss to the Cowboys in Week 2.

VegasInsider.com handicapper Joe Nelson says this could be the beginning of a turnaround offensively for the Eagles, “After averaging fewer than 260 yards per game vs. the Cowboys, Lions, and Redskins, Philadelphia’s offense broke out in a big way last week with 519 yards in a 22-point win over the Saints. Bradford has not played well with six interceptions while ranking 31st in the NFL in QBR. The bigger concern for the Eagles on offense may be the lack of success in the running game after the high profile acquisition of Murray after trading away LeSean McCoy. The Eagles have gained just 3.8 yards per carry, the eighth worst average in the NFL while posting only 93 rushing yards per game.”

On the flip side with the G-Men, Nelson breaks down the improvement the last few weeks for New York, “Given how poorly last season went a 3-2 start for the Giants has been encouraging but New York could easily be 5-0 as they blew leads in the first two weeks of the season against Dallas and Atlanta, two teams they may end up battling with late in the season for playoff spots. Steve Spagnuolo’s return to New York has provided a boost to the Giants defense so far with New York an opportunistic unit, creating seven turnovers already this season. Spagnuolo drafted and coached Bradford so he will have some ideas on how to create problems for the Eagles quarterback.”

The Eagles are playing their second Monday night game of the season, losing at Atlanta in the season opener, 26-24 as three-point favorites. Prior to that defeat, Philadelphia had won and covered each of its previous three Monday nighters under Kelly since 2013, including a home blowout of the Panthers last season, 45-21. The Giants were routed in each of their Monday night appearances in 2014, losing to Detroit and Indianapolis by a combined score of 75-38, while its last Monday road win came at Dallas in 2010.

Underdogs have put together an impressive 4-2 SU and 5-1 ATS record on Monday night this season, while the ‘under’ has cashed five times so far. Only two road underdogs have won outright on Mondays, as the Jets (Week 2) and Steelers (Week 5) both cashed as a ‘dog of four points or more. The only home favorite to cover on a Monday night this season is the Packers, back in Week 3 over the Chiefs.

From a totals perspective, the Eagles finally hit the ‘over’ for the first time in five tries in the victory over the Saints last Sunday as a New Orleans touchdown with no time remaining helped the game go ‘over’ the total of 49 ½. The Giants are 3-2 to the ‘over’ this season, while going 1-1 to the ‘over’ away from Met Life Stadium.

The Eagles are listed as five-point favorites at most books, while that number is creeping up to 5 ½ at several outlets. The total is set at 50 ½ at Sportsbook.ag, as Philadelphia is 13-9 to the ‘over’ in 22 games with a total listed above 50 under Kelly. The game can be seen on ESPN and kicks off at 8:30 PM EST from Lincoln Financial Field.

Giants, Eagles clash Monday
October 18, 2015

NEW YORK GIANTS (3-2) at PHILADELPHIA EAGLES (2-3)

Kickoff: Monday, 8:30 p.m. ET
Sportsbook.ag Line: Philadelphia -4, Total: 50

Don’t expect much brotherly love on Monday night as the Giants head down I-95 to take on the divisional rival Eagles.

New York (3-2 SU and ATS) is red-hot with three straight wins, including a last-minute drive to topple San Francisco 30-27 last week.

Philadelphia (2-3 SU and ATS), which also started 2015 with two straight losses, is coming off its most impressive win of the year, a 39-17 thrashing of the Saints.

The Giants have the edge against the Eagles over their storied history, leading the all-time series 85-79-2.

Philadelphia has enjoyed more recent success, however, beating New York in three of the past four meetings (SU and ATS), including a series sweep in 2014.

The Giants are 61-38 ATS coming off of a win at home since 1992, and head coach Tom Coughlin is 22-7 ATS in road games after 2+ consecutive wins during his tenure with his current team.

The trends aren’t as favorable to the Eagles, but bad teams (win percentage of 25-40%) that have covered the spread in two of their last three games are 41-14 ATS when playing a team with a winning record since 1983.

New York enters Monday night with a bruised and battered receiving corps. WR Odell Beckham (hamstring), WR Victor Cruz (calf), and TE Jerome Cunningham (knee) are listed as questionable, while WR Rueben Randle (hamstring) is doubtful. The G-Men are facing key injuries on defense as well, with LB Jon Beason (concussion), DE Robert Ayers (hamstring), LB Devon Kennard (hamstring) and DE George Selvie (calf) all questionable.

Philadelphia is watching a handful of injuries as well, with WR Nelson Agholor (shin), DE Brandon Bair (groin), and LB Mychal Kendricks (hamstring) listed as questionable for Monday night.

New York’s offense has been one of the league’s best through Week 5, averaging 397 total yards per game and scoring 28.7 points per game in its past three contests.

QB Eli Manning’s pass-heavy offense leads the league in pass attempts (197), with Manning connecting on 67% of his throws with only two interceptions. He is only 9-14 SU (9-13-1 ATS) in this series, throwing for 238 YPG, 39 TD and 23 INT in these 23 meetings.

While remaining stalwart against the run, the Giants’ defense has been porous, allowing opponents 385 total yards per game. Time of possession has been an issue for Big Blue while on the road – the team has stranded the defense on the field for 33:18 per game.

While their offense hasn’t yet lived up to preseason expectations, the Eagles have averaged a respectable 23.4 points per game through the first five weeks.

Head coach Chip Kelly’s fast-paced offense spends just 25:02 on the field, though they still average 339 total yards per game in that time. QB Sam Bradford is only 5-10 ATS when favored, but he does have 22 TD and 14 INT in these 15 starts. This season, he has spread the love around, finding seven of his teammates in the end zone.

The Philadelphia running corps, led by last year’s league leading rusher RB DeMarco Murray, has failed to ignite this season, averaging just 93 rushing YPG, which included an abysmal 7-yard performance at home against the Cowboys in Week 2.

The Eagles’ defense has given up 20.6 PPG and 377 total YPG to opponents, though they’ve allowed a league-best one rushing touchdown.

Colts help Books win Week 6

October 19, 2015

After sweating through 11 games in Sunday's NFL Week 6 action, most of the bettors’ success at the end of the day hinged on the “Deflategate” rematch between the Patriots and Colts. There had been some give and take by both the sports books and bettors as they each won a few of the many thrilling games on the day, but the big payoff for both sides would come down to whether or not the Patriots would cover as 8 ½-points at Indianapolis.

"The Colts make or break the day for us," said Station Casinos sports book director Jason McCormick just as the game kicked off. "We're loaded on the Pats and hoping they come out deflated."

Deflated they would not be, but it took lots of nail biting by books and bettors and the spread was coming into play. The books looked like they were in shape on the Colts first when they would march down the field in a an impressive opening score and then were leading 21-20 at the half, but then the Patriots defense tightened up and held a 34-21 lead until Indianapolis got the back-door cover touchdown with 1:19 to go.

"That last touchdown by the Colts was good news for us. We had got as high as 10 with the Patriots," said the Stratosphere's Hugh Citron.

The good news for the house almost quickly turned into miraculous news for holders on Patriots bets as the ensuing on-side kick was nearly converted into a Rob Gronkowski TD. It was a moment in every sports book crowd where the audience collectively held their breath and the ultimate bettors' dream almost turned into reality. Gronkowski, in as part of the good hands team, jumped out to secure the kick for the Patriots and appeared to have a clear run down the sideline until accidently stepping out of bounds. The Gronk really looked as though he wanted that score.

The win moved the Patriots to 5-0 on the season and joined the Panthers, Broncos (6-0), Bengals (6-0) and Packers (6-0) as the only remaining undefeated teams. The Panthers and Bengals would be the only one of those teams to cover the number on Sunday, and for Cincinnati, who is now 5-0-1 ATS, they are becoming a thorn in the sports books side as bettors are flocking to a team that just keeps covering. On Sunday, the Bengals (-3) turned a close game at Buffalo into a 34-21 rout.

CG Technologies vice-president of risk management Jason Simbal described his books' day as "decent" and said their worst games was the Bengals and that they "actually needed Seattle."

Stations' McCormick said the day was "solid but not great as the Bills and Redskins let them down."

The Stratosphere had a similar story with the first 11 games.

"The game that really helped us out in the morning games was the Steelers (+5) beating the Cardinals and then the Browns (+3.5) covering against the Broncos was a boost to where we were eliminating parlays before any momentum could build," said Citron. "The Bengals covering was probably our worst decision of the morning and everyone seemed to be on the Vikings (-3) also."

Kansas City dropped to 1-5 with its 16-10 loss at Minnesota, and bettors are now gravitating to anyone who plays Kansas City because they are also 1-5 against the spread.

The Cardinals have been a popular choice all season because they were averaging a 38-18 score while covering four of its five games, but Pittsburgh is now 5-0-1 ATS after its 25-13 over Arizona. Third-string Steelers QB Landry Jones came in to provide two second-half scores after Michael Vick was injured.

"Packers not covering helped chop up the afternoon games," said Citron, "and surprisingly the other two late games didn't fare as well for us. We had more action with the Seahawks and Ravens on the parlay cards, but the action was all pretty square with people on the Panthers and 49ers some."

The Panthers are now garnering respect from the public and their patience with the Seahawks is waning as Seattle now drops to 1-3-1 ATS.

The Packers survived a late scare from the Chargers and escaped with a 27-20 win which served as a double blow to the public as the game stayed UNDER 50. It was the first game this season that Green Bay has failed to cover.

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) Tom Brady threw for 312 yards and three touchdowns and New England took advantage of a botched fake punt in the Patriots' 34-27 victory over the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday night.

The Patriots improved to 5-0 for the first time since 2007. It was the first meeting between the rivals since the ''Deflategate'' storm erupted after the AFC title game in January.

For a half, the teams traded jabs.

But New England seized control in the second half.

Brady's 25-yard touchdown pass to Rob Gronkowksi gave New England a 27-21 lead. And when the Patriots stopped the Colts (3-3) on an odd-looking and ill-advised fake punt, the scrambling Brady eventually found LeGarrette Blount for an 11-yard scoring pass that made it 34-21.

Andrew Luck was 30 of 50 for 312 yards and three touchdowns in his first game back from an injured right shoulder.

BENGALS 34, BILLS 21

ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. (AP) - Andy Dalton threw three touchdown passes and Cincinnati beat Buffalo to improve to 6-0 and match the best start in franchise history.

With star receiver A.J. Green covered much of the game, Dalton completed touchdown passes to Marvin Jones, Tyler Eifert and Jeremy Hill. Dalton finished 22 of 33 for 243 yards for Cincinnati, which was also 6-0 to start the 1975 and `88 seasons.

The Bengals broke the game open by scoring 17 points on their first three second-half possessions to build a 34-14 lead.

The Bills (3-3) were undone by injuries and several penalties that allowed the Bengals to enjoy an average drive start of midfield in the first half.

BRONCOS 26, BROWNS 23, OT

CLEVELAND (AP) - Peyton Manning shook off three interceptions and drove Denver in range for Brandon McManus' 34-yard field goal with 4:56 left in overtime.

Manning took the Broncos from their own 12 to Cleveland's 16 before McManus kicked his game-winner to make Denver 6-0 for the seventh time in franchise history. The Broncos only rallied thanks to their top-ranked defense, which came up big in overtime.

After Manning's third pick, Denver recorded two sacks to push the Browns (2-4) out of field-goal range.

PACKERS 27, CHARGERS 20

GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) - Green Bay stopped San Diego on fourth-and-goal from the 3 with 15 seconds left and overcame a career day by Philip Rivers to hold off the Chargers.

Rivers set career highs with 43 completions, 65 attempts and 503 yards passing. He threw for two touchdowns for the Chargers (2-4). But he needed one more completion.

Rookie cornerback Damarious Randall lunged to poke away Rivers' short pass to Danny Woodhead near the front right pylon in the final seconds.

The fans inside Lambeau Field erupted with a collective sigh of relief. Green Bay (6-0) survived its biggest scare of the year to stay unbeaten.

The Packers started strong and finished barely in front. Running back James Starks had touchdowns on a 65-yard run and a 5-yard pass in the first quarter.

LIONS 37, BEARS 34, OT

DETROIT (AP) - A win, finally. Matt Prater kicked a 27-yard field goal with 2:29 left in overtime, and Detroit won for the first time this season.

Matthew Stafford heaved a 57-yard pass to Calvin Johnson to set up the kick for the Lions (1-5). Johnson finished with six receptions for 166 yards.

The Bears (2-4) had chances for a third straight comeback win.

Chicago's Robbie Gould kicked a 29-yard field goal as time expired in regulation. The tying score was set up by Darius Slay getting called for interference after Jay Cutler's 25- and 24-yard passes to Alshon Jeffery.

PANTHERS 27, SEAHAWKS 23

SEATTLE (AP) - Cam Newton threw a 26-yard touchdown pass to Greg Olsen with 32 seconds left and Carolina remained unbeaten, rallying for a stunning win over Seattle.

Newton led the Panthers (5-0) to touchdowns on their final two possessions after trailing 23-14, the second straight week the Seahawks collapsed in the fourth quarter. Newton found Olsen wide open down the seam as All-Pros Earl Thomas and Richard Sherman looked at each other in confusion.

Newton was 12 of 15 for 162 yards in the fourth quarter and threw for 269 yards overall. He led the Panthers on a pair of 80-yard touchdown drives in the final period as the Panthers improved to 5-0 for the second time in franchise history.

It was the second straight week the Seahawks (2-4) suffered a late defensive meltdown.

JETS 34, REDSKINS 20

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (AP) - Ryan Fitzpatrick threw two touchdown passes and ran for another score, and the Jets overcame a sloppy first half.

Chris Ivory ran for 146 yards and a TD on 20 carries for the Jets, who improved to 4-1 for the first time since 2010. Brandon Marshall had seven catches for 111 yards, and Eric Decker also caught a TD. The Redskins are 2-4.

STEELERS 25, CARDINALS 13

PITTSBURGH (AP) - Landry Jones threw two touchdown passes to Martavis Bryant in relief of Michael Vick and Pittsburgh rallied for the win.

Vick left in the third quarter with a hamstring injury and Pittsburgh's offense took off when Jones took over. Jones hit Bryant for an 8-yard score to give the Steelers (4-2) the lead. The two hooked up later for an 88-yard strike.

Jones completed 8 of 12 passes for 168 yards and the two scores. Bryant caught six passes for 137 yards in his first action of the season.

Carson Palmer threw for 421 yards with a TD and two interceptions. John Brown caught 10 balls for 196 yards for the Cardinals (4-2).

VIKINGS 16, CHIEFS 10

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) - Despite an erratic performance by Terry Bridgewater, Minnesota's tough defense and rookie wide receiver Stefon Diggs came through over mistake-prone Kansas City.

Alex Smith's 42-yard touchdown pass to Albert Wilson midway through the fourth quarter pulled the Chiefs within three points, but the Vikings (3-2) played well enough early to survive their ragged finish.

The Chiefs (1-5) had eight penalties for 95 yards.

Diggs had 129 yards on seven catches. Bridgewater threw two interceptions. Adrian Peterson, who was on the sideline late in the game with the Vikings trying to put it away, finished with 60 yards on 26 carries.

49ERS 25, RAVENS 20

SANTA CLARA, Calif. (AP) - Colin Kaepernick completed a 76-yard touchdown pass to ex-Ravens star Torrey Smith, Joe Flacco threw two interceptions and San Francisco beat Baltimore to snap a four-game losing streak.

Phil Dawson kicked four field goals in the first win since Week 1 for San Francisco (2-4), while Anquan Boldin - a Super Bowl star for the Ravens against the Niners - made a 51-yard reception late that set up Quinton Patton's 21-yard TD catch.

Flacco's desperation pass to the end zone on the final play went incomplete.

The rematch of the Super Bowl three seasons ago featured a pair of last-place teams trying to turn around their seasons, and it showed in some sloppy play.

Steve Smith caught a 34-yard TD pass from Flacco in the third, but the Ravens (1-5) are reeling through the worst start in franchise history. Tough weekend for the Harbaugh brothers after Baltimore coach John Harbaugh's brother Jim's Michigan team lost Saturday to Michigan State on a botched punt.

DOLPHINS 38, TITANS 10

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - Cameron Wake got his first four sacks this season and also forced two fumbles - all in the first half - and Miami won in Dan Campbell's debut as interim coach.

The Dolphins (2-3) came in having lost three straight, costing coach Joe Philbin his job Oct. 5.

Miami finished with six sacks and two interceptions against Marcus Mariota. The rookie quarterback needed a knee brace and was replaced by Zach Mettenberger after the 2-minute warning.

Lamar Miller ran for 113 yards and a TD for Miami. The Titans (1-4) lost their fourth straight.

TEXANS 31, JAGUARS 20

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (AP) - Brian Hoyer threw three touchdown passes on third down, two to DeAndre Hopkins, for Houston.

The Jaguars (1-5) lost their fourth in a row and raised more questions about coach Gus Bradley's job security.

The Texans (2-4) started emptying the stadium midway through the fourth after Andre Hal returned an interception 41 yards for a touchdown and a 31-14 lead. It was the sixth pick-six thrown by Blake Bortles in 19 career starts.

Week 6 goes to the dogs

Underdogs were the side to bet in NFL action yesterday, going an impressive 9-3 against the spread in 12 games Sunday.

That is good for an 75.0 percent success rate and improved underdogs to 49-39-2 ATS for the season (55.68 percent cash rate).

The only favorites to cover Sunday were Cincinnati, Minnesota and the New York Jets.

The Giants are currently 5-point road dogs for Monday night's matchup with the Philadelphia Eagles.

Browns go over in sixth straight contest

The Cleveland Browns are the NFL's best over play through six weeks, going a perfect 6-0 O/U in their first six weeks.

The Browns, who are seeing 49.8 combined points per game, fell 26-23 to the Denver Broncos this Sunday, easily going over the total of 41.5.

Over bettors hope the Browns' streak continues when they visit the St. Louis Rams in Week 7. The total opened at 42.5.

Vikings becoming a perfect under bet

The Minnesota Vikings topped the Kansas City Chiefs 16-10 this Sunday, going under the total in all five games this season, making them the best under bet in the NFL.

The Vikings' combination of a stingy defense and stagnant offense have them as a perfect under bet. They rank 2nd in points allowed at just 16.6 points per game, while scoring just 19.2 at the same time.

Minnesota visits the Detroit Lions in Week 7, where the total opened at 44.5.

Cincinnati, Pittsburgh keeping backers happy

Both the Cincinnati Bengals and the Pittsburgh Steelers won and covered on Sunday, improving to 5-0-1 against the spread and are the best bets in the NFL through six weeks.

The Bengals easily covered as 3-point road favorites, topping the Buffalo Bills 34-21, while the Steelers topped the Arizona Cardinals 25-13 as 5.5-point home dogs.

Cincinnati is on bye in Week 7, while the Steelers visit the Kansas City Chiefs.

Ravens still haven't covered this season

The disastrous season for the Baltimore Ravens continued Sunday, falling to the San Francisco 49ers 25-20 as 2.5-point road favorites.

The Ravens are the only team yet to cover a spread this season, now at 0-5-1 against the spread through six weeks.

Thins don't get any easier for Baltimore as they travel to Arizona to take on the Cardinals, were they have opened as 7.5-point road dogs.

Monday Night Football betting preview: Giants at Eagles
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Giants posted their third consecutive victory with a last-minute win over San Francisco last week to take a one-game lead atop the division.

New York Giants at Philadelphia Eagles (-5.5, 50)

The New York Giants saw their season take a nosedive with a crushing Week 6 loss at NFC East rival Philadelphia a year ago and will try to avoid a similar fate when they visit the Eagles on Monday night. The Giants posted their third consecutive victory with a last-minute win over San Francisco last week to take a one-game lead atop the division.

"It ranks up there as far as comebacks," New York coach Tom Coughlin said after Eli Manning engineered a late touchdown drive despite both his wide receivers dealing with hamstring injuries. The Giants were also riding a three-game winning streak last season and were promptly shellacked by the Eagles 27-0, setting off a seven-game skid. Philadelphia is coming off its best performance with a 39-17 romp over New Orleans. "After what we were able to do in the preseason, everybody has been waiting for this," Eagles quarterback Sam Bradford said. "It's a great feeling. Now, we have to build off it."

TV: 8:30 p.m. ET, ESPN.

LINE HISTORY: Books opened the Eagles as 3.5-point home faves, but that's moved to -5.5. The total has remained at the opening number of 50.

INJURY REPORT:

Giants - WR Rueben Randle (Probable, hamstring), TE Jerome Cunningham (Questionable, knee), DE Robert Ayers (Questionable, hamstring), DE George Selive (Questionable, calf), LB Jonathan Casillas (Questionable, calf), LB Jon Beason (Questionable, concussion), LB Devon Kennard (Doubtful, hamstring), WR Victor Cruz (Doubtful, calf), CB Prince Amukamara (Mid November, pectoral), DE Jason Pierre-Paul (Out indefinitely, finger), TE Daniel Fells (I-R, ankle), S Nat Berhe (I-R, calf), C Brett Jones (I-R, knee), S Bennett Jackson (I-R, knee), S Mykkele Thompson (I-R, Achilles), T Will Beatty (I-R, pectoral).

Eagles - RB Ryan Mathews (Questionable, groin), DE Brandon Bair (Questionable, groin), LB Mychal Kendricks (Doubtful, hamstring), WR Nelson Agholor (Doubtful, leg), LB Kiko Alonso (Out indefinitely, knee), T Andrew Gardner (I-R, foot), K Cody Parkey (I-R, groin), LB Travis Long (I-R, knee), C David Molk (I-R, bicep), DB JaCorey Shepherd (I-R, knee).

WEATHER: Temperatures expected to be in the mid-40s with wind blowing toward the north end zone at around six miles per hour.

POWER RANKINGS: Giants (-0.5) + Eagles (-1.0) + home field (-3.0) = Eagles -4.5

WHAT CAPPERS SAY: "Last year, Eli Manning set career bests in completion percentage and touchdown-to-interception ratio. This year, he?s on pace to set new career bests in both categories. The Eagles offense finally got going in their blowout over the Saints, playing at their preferred pace with 79 offensive snaps, 34 first downs and 519 total yards."

ABOUT THE GIANTS (3-2 SU, 3-2 ATS, 3-2 O/U): The biggest concern for the Giants is the health of stud wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr., who did not practice Thursday or Friday due to a hamstring injury sustained in last week's victory. Rueben Randle will return from his own hamstring injury and provide a familiar target for Manning, who threw for 441 yards and three touchdowns while setting a franchise record with 41 completions. Middle linebacker Jon Beason suffered a concussion last week but practiced on a limited basis Friday for a defense that ranks No. 2 against the run (80.6 yards) and dead last against the pass (304.2).

ABOUT THE EAGLES (2-3 SU, 2-3 ATS, 1-4 O/U): Philadelphia finally managed to get its ground game untracked in the rout of New Orleans as offseason acquisitions DeMarco Murray and Ryan Mathews each scored a touchdown while rushing for 83 and 73 yards, respectively. Bradford had his second-highest output of the season with 333 yards passing to go along with a pair of TDs, but he also showed his penchant for making the costly mistake by getting intercepted twice in the red zone. The Eagles have also been vulnerable through the air, ranking 26th in the league at 279.6 yards permitted, but they have six interceptions and eight forced fumbles.

TRENDS:

* Under is 5-0 in the last five meetings in Philadelphia.
* Favorite is 4-1-1 ATS in their last six meetings.
* Giants are 1-4 ATS in their last five Monday games.
* Over is 8-2-1 in Eagles last 11 Monday games.

CONSENSUS: Sixty-three percent of users are backing the Giants.

Steelers' Beachum out for year with torn ACL

Left tackle Kelvin Beachum sustained a season-ending torn anterior cruciate ligament Sunday in Pittsburgh's 25-13 win over the Arizona Cardinals, Steelers coach Mike Tomlin announced.

Second-year pro Alejandro Villanueva finished Sunday's game in place of Beachum, the Steelers' starter on the left side since 2013.

A seventh-round pick in 2012, Beachum, 26, will be a free agent after the season.

The banged up Pittsburgh offensive line is also without all-pro center Maurkice Pouncey, whose left fibula injury needed a second surgery that may lead to him missing the rest of the season as well.

Ravens S Lewis leaves game with knee injury

SAN FRANCISCO -- Baltimore Raven starting free safety Kendrick Lewis sustained a knee injury with 9:41 left in the third period of Sunday's game against the San Francisco 49ers.

Lewis was helped off the field and went to the locker room to be examined. His return to the game was doubtful.

Brynden Trawick replaced Lewis.

Steelers QB Roethlisberger plans to play this week

Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger, after missing the last three games with a knee injury, plans be a full participant at practice this week and play against the Kansas City Chiefs.

"We're going to tape it and brace it and I'm going to see what I can do," Roethlisberger said Sunday after the Steelers beat the Arizona Cardinals 25-13 at Heinz Field. "My plan is to go out Wednesday and practice. We'll see what happens. I know I've got to be smart about it. I've got to be able to defend myself. We're just going to take it day by day."

Roethlisberger went down against the St. Louis Rams in Week 3 on Sept. 27 with a sprained MCL and bone bruise in his left knee. He was limited in practice last week, which provided a glimmer of hope he might be able to return against the Cardinals.

When Roethlisberger was initially injured, the projection was that he would miss four to six weeks. The game at Kansas City on Sunday will be four weeks after his injury.

Third-string quarterback Landry Jones, after backup quarterback Mike Vick exited Sunday's game early in the third quarter with a hamstring injury, delivered four second-half scoring drives to lead the Steelers to a win over the Cardinals. The Steelers, now 4-2, are 2-1 during Big Ben's absence.

After Vick completed only 3 of 8 passes for 6 yards, he was replaced by Jones, who was 8-for-12 for 168 yards and two touchdowns, including an 88-yard pass to Martavis Bryant with 1:58 remaining that put the game out of reach.
