MLB roundup: Russell's ninth-inning HR lifts Cubs
April 19, 2017

CHICAGO -- Addison Russell capped a late-game rally with a walk-off, three-run homer in the ninth inning as the Chicago Cubs beat the Milwaukee Brewers 7-4 in a Wrigley Field series finale on Wednesday.

Russell's homer -- his second -- came on a 2-0 pitch off Brewers closer Neftali Feliz and brought home pinch-runner Carl Edwards Jr. from third and Kris Bryant from second.

Cubs reliever Wade Davis (2-0) pitched one inning to get the win. Feliz (0-2) took the loss.

Travis Shaw and Jett Bandy each added home runs to Milwaukee's major-league-leading total (29), but it wasn't enough as the Brewers couldn't hold a late-inning lead.

Cardinals 2, Pirates 1

ST. LOUIS -- Dexter Fowler broke out of an early-season skid with two solo homers as St. Louis swept Pittsburgh at Busch Stadium.

Fowler, who fanned in the first inning to fall to 8-for-57 with 17 strikeouts, worked a 2-0 count against Gerrit Cole in the third and then lined his first homer for St. Louis into its bullpen in right-center field. Two innings later, Fowler ambushed a first-pitch fastball and lined it inside the right-field foul pole for the fourth multi-homer game of his career. It was his first since June 2, 2013, when he was playing for the Colorado Rockies.

Michael Wacha (2-1) and three relievers made the lead stand. Wacha gave up one run and four hits in 6 2/3 innings, walking two and fanning three.

Mariners 10, Marlins 5

SEATTLE -- Mitch Haniger had three hits, a walk and four RBIs to lead Seattle past Miami.

Kyle Seager nearly matched his teammate, driving in four runs on two hits.

Miami outfielders Christian Yelich and Giancarlo Stanton each hit long home runs off Mariners starter Felix Hernandez (2-1), who gave up 12 hits and four runs while striking out five and walking one in 6 1/3 innings.

Athletics 9, Rangers 1

OAKLAND, Calif. -- Jesse Hahn delivered a premium start, breezing through six innings and allowing two hits with four strikeouts and four walks.

Khris Davis of the A's slugged his seventh home run, a two-run blast to right on the first pitch he saw from struggling reliever Mike Hauschild in the fifth. Davis moved into a tie for the major league lead for homers with George Springer of Houston and Erik Thames of Milwaukee.

Hahn (1-1) did not allow a hit until Mike Napoli's single to left with one out in the fourth.

Nationals 14, Braves 4

ATLANTA -- Bryce Harper smashed a grand slam in the second inning after a solo homer in the first off Julio Teheran and finished 4-for-4 with an intentional walk as Washington beat Atlanta.

Harper, who is batting .404 with six homers and 18 RBIs, has driven in 17 runs against Teheran while going 15-for-33 against the right-hander.

Ryan Zimmerman made it a rout with a grand slam off reliever Ian Krol in a five-run eighth. It was the first time the Nationals hit two slams in a game since Josh Willingham did it in 2009 at Milwaukee.

Freddie Freeman hit his sixth homer of the season in the third inning to set the Atlanta record of reaching base in 12 consecutive plate appearances.

Astros 5, Angels 1

HOUSTON -- Josh Reddick finished a single shy of the cycle and scored three runs and Dallas Keuchel allowed one run in pitched seven strong innings as Houston defeated Los Angeles.

In the seventh inning, Reddick blasted a 1-2 pitch from Mike Morin into the front row in right field for a two-run homer. It was Reddick's first home run since joining the Astros. Reddick tripled in the first inning, doubled in the sixth and struck out swinging in his only other at-bat, finishing 3-for-4.

The lone run surrendered by Keuchel came off an RBI single from Yunel Escobar in the third inning.

Rays 8, Tigers 7

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. -- Tampa Bay blew a four-run lead and then rallied to win in the bottom of the ninth inning, getting two runs on a two-out throwing error to beat Detroit at Tropicana Field.

The Rays trailed 7-5 after six innings but rallied for a run in the seventh and then got to closer Francisco Rodriguez in the ninth.

Rookie reliever Austin Pruitt (1-0) threw 3 1/3 innings of scoreless one-hit relief, striking out five, to earn his first major league win.

Royals 2, Giants 0

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Jason Vargas outdueled Madison Bumgarner as Kansas City beat San Francisco.

Vargas (3-0) struck out nine, one shy of his career high, walked none and allowed four hits in seven innings. He was removed after 92 pitches, 61 of them strikes.

Bumgarner (0-3), who went 2-0 plus a five-inning save in Game 7 of the 2014 World Series against the Royals, allowed one run and seven hits while walking one and striking out four in six innings.

Blue Jays 3, Red Sox 0

TORONTO -- Toronto snapped a two-game winless streak, ending Boston's four-game winning run.

The Jays took an early 3-0 lead in the second inning when Darwin Barney singled up the middle, driving in Troy Tulowitzki and Russell Martin. Both reached base on back-to-back throwing errors by Pablo Sandoval and Mitch Moreland.

Ezequiel Carrera drove in Barney from second after he advanced to second on a single by Kevin Pillar.

Yankees 9, White Sox 1

NEW YORK -- Aaron Judge hit another mammoth home run when he clubbed a 448-foot blast with two outs in the fifth inning as New York concluded its first homestand with a rout of Chicago.

Judge hit four home runs as the Yankees won eight of nine games.

With the Yankees already leading 7-1, Judge got hold of a 2-0 curveball from Dylan Covey. He hit a high-arching shot into the upper rows of the left-field bleachers near the flagpole.

Mets 5, Phillies 4

NEW YORK -- Jay Bruce continued his resurgence as he accounted for his team's entire offense by hitting two homers -- a three-run shot in the sixth and a tiebreaking two-run blast in the eighth -- to lift New York past Philadelphia.

The win snapped a four-game losing streak for the Mets, who scored just 10 runs during the skid.

The Mets trailed 2-0 with two outs in the sixth before Asdrubal Cabrera singled and Yoenis Cespedes worked a walk to set up Bruce's three-run homer to right off Phillies starter Vince Velasquez.

Orioles 2, Reds 0

CINCINNATI -- Ubaldo Jimenez pitched 7 2/3 innings and Jonathan Schoop's RBI single and a sacrifice fly by Manny Machado provided all the offense, lifting Baltimore over Cincinnati.

Jimenez (1-0) allowed two hits with four walks and three strikeouts.

The Orioles handed Jimenez an early lead after Welington Castillo doubled and scored on Schoop's single in the second. Baltimore led 2-0 after Machado's sacrifice fly in the fifth.

Padres 1, Diamondbacks 0

SAN DIEGO -- Erick Aybar, hitless in his previous 16 at-bats, homered off Zack Greinke with one out in the eighth inning as San Diego beat Arizona to snap a five-game losing streak.

The Padres' Jhoulys Chacin (2-2) allowed three hits and a walk with five strikeouts in eight innings. Arizona had one runner in each of the first four innings before Chacin closed out his night by retiring the final 14 Diamondbacks he faced. Chacin has pitched 14 2/3 innings at Petco Park this season without allowing a run.

Greinke had allowed two hits and a walk through the first 7 1/3 innings before Aybar came to the plate with a .128 average.

Dodgers 4, Rockies 2

LOS ANGELES -- Clayton Kershaw struck out 10 and Scott Van Slyke homered as Los Angeles ended a three-game slide with a victory over Colorado.

Kershaw (3-1) walked one and gave up two runs on five hits in seven innings to improve to 10-0 in his last 11 starts at home. Kershaw is 19-6, including an 11-2 mark at Dodger Stadium, in 34 career starts against the Rockies.

Enrique Hernandez, Corey Seager and Adrian Gonzalez each drove in a run for the Dodgers.

Thursday’s six-pack

Odds to win the Valero Texas Open this week:

16-1— Matt Kuchar

18-1— Charley Hoffman

22-1— Adam Hadwin, Branden Grace, Brooks Koepka, Brendan Steele

25-1— Jimmy Walker
26-1— Ryan Moore

28-1- Billy Horschel

*******************************

Thursday’s List of 13: Nobody asked me, but…….

13) Random odd fact: in the next FIVE NBA drafts, the 76ers have the Knicks’ 2nd-round pick. The Knicks are bad, so their 2nd round pick is fairly close to the first round.

12) Shareef O’Neal, Shaq’s son, will be playing ball at Arizona starting in the fall of 2018; he is a 6-9 forward is ranked 31st in the Class of 2018 by one analyst.

11) Bryce Harper homered twice in first two innings last nite, is 15-for-33 with seven HR’s and 17 RBIs off Julio Teheran, who is no chump.

10) Umpire CB Bucknor had a rough night behind the plate Tuesday working the Nats-Braves game; plus the Fox Trax thing that shows whether a pitch is a ball or a strike wasn’t working well on TV, so it made Bucknor look even worse. Washington players were upset afterwards and they won the game.

9) Cardinals 2, Pirates 1— Third day in a row St Louis beat the Bucs by a 2-1 score.

8) Maple Leafs are in the playoffs, Blue Jays are off to a 2-11 start; there were tickets for the Red Sox-Jays game in Toronto last night selling online for as little as $2.

7) Memphis Grizzlies coach David Fizdale was fined $30,000 by the NBA for his comments about the refs in Game 2— the Memphis players are paying the tab for him.

6) Ichiro Suzuki, in what was probably his last at-bat in Seattle, homered in the 9th inning of the Marlins’ 10-5 loss. Suzuki was a great player for the Mariners and is a sure-fire Hall of Famer.

5) Tampa Bay Buccaneers will be featured on HBO’s Hard Knocks this summer.

4) LIU hired former UMass coach Derek Kellogg to lead its basketball program; took them over a month to hire a new coach.

3) Mets’ 1B Lucas Duda hyperextended his elbow taking a throw last nite and left the game- was reminiscent of the play long time ago where Cliff Floyd’s elbow got totally messed up reaching into the baseline to field a throw.

2) Quote of the Day, part 2, from Florida Atlantic’s new football coach Lane Kiffin, on how he will deal with his assistant coaches:

“No, that’s not really how I do it. Greg (McElroy) knows about those. Those things come up, and everybody has different ways of dealing with them. It’s just not really how I do it. I’m not really big on humiliating assistant coaches in front of everybody. I write down notes. In the staff meeting, I explain what we want to get done.”

1— NFL releases the 2017 schedule tonight, so we’ll be talking about that Friday. Remember, it isn’t as much about who you play as much as when you play them.

LEADING OFF: Familia returns, Valdez back in majors
April 19, 2017

A look at what's happening all around the majors Thursday:

BACK IN THE BULLPEN

All-Star closer Jeurys Familia returns to the Mets after sitting out the first 15 games of the season while serving a domestic violence suspension. He could provide a nice lift for an overworked bullpen. New York relievers were 0-4 with a 7.15 ERA during the team's four-game losing streak heading into Wednesday night against Philadelphia. The bullpen's five losses overall were tied for most in the majors. ''We're going to add a nice piece tomorrow,'' manager Terry Collins said. ''I think they'll settle down and they'll start to get into the roles they're accustomed to, and hopefully we pitch better.'' Collins said he would like to get Familia into a game right away, but the right-hander might be eased back in with a setup role at first. Familia led the majors last year with a club-record 51 saves in 56 chances.

---

BACK IN THE BATTING ORDER

Houston shortstop Carlos Correa expects to be in the lineup Thursday after missing three straight games because of a bruised right hand.

Correa, who was hit by a pitch in Saturday's game against Oakland, took batting practice and fielded ground balls prior to Wednesday's game against the Angels. He said he took around 25 swings.

''I want to be back out there,'' Correa said. ''It's still a little sore, but tomorrow I'll be ready and ready to be back in action.''

Houston manager A.J. Hinch said Correa is still day to day.

''He's got some questions to answer but things are pointing in the right direction,'' Hinch said. ''Today is a big day for him to get into baseball again.''

Correa was hitting .234 with one home run before the injury and in an 0-for-9 slump. Alex Bregman has filled in at shortstop during Correa's absence.

---

ALSO BACK?

Atlanta outfielder Matt Kemp, sidelined by right hamstring tightness, could be activated from the disabled list for Thursday's game against Washington and Stephen Strasburg. Kemp was to play for Triple-A Gwinnett on Wednesday night in an injury rehabilitation assignment.

---

BEEN A LONG TIME

Cesar Valdez, a 32-year-old right-hander, returns to the big leagues for the first time since 2010 when he pitches for Oakland against Seattle. Valdez is making a spot start in place of Kendall Graveman, who is on the disabled list because of a strained right shoulder. Valdez was 1-2 with a 7.65 ERA in two starts and seven relief appearances for Arizona in 2010. He was traded to Pittsburgh that December to complete the deal that sent pitcher Zach Duke to the Diamondbacks, and his contract was bought by Florida in July 2011 and by Toronto later that month. He was released by Toronto after two days, played several years in Mexico, spent 2016 in Houston's organization and signed with the Athletics during the offseason.

Hottest team: Nationals (6-2 past eight)

The Nationals continue their three-game series at brand spanking new SunTrust Park in Atlanta against the Braves, who have dropped two in a row after a five-game winning streak. Stephen Strasburg is on the bump, and he generally helps the Nats pick on the weakest opponents. Washington is 7-3 over his past 10 road starts against a team with a losing overall record, and 19-7 in his past 26 outings overall versus losing teams. The Nationals are also 6-1 over his past seven starts against the Braves, and 5-1 in his past six in Atlanta. Washington has won the first two in this series, and eight of their past 11 trips to Hotlanta. They're also an amazing 37-14 in the past 51 meetings overall.

Coldest team Mariners (1-6 in seven road games this season)

The Mariners hit the road after a successful homestand, posting five wins over the past six outings at Safeco Field. Playing at home hasn't been the problem. Playing on the road is where the Mariners need a ton of improvement. Seattle has won just one game in seven tries on the road, a 4-2 decision in Houston on April 6 behind southpaw Angel Miranda. While the Mariners are 13-3 in their past 16 games against teams with a losing record, they're just 1-5 in their past six road games against a right-handed starting pitcher. If they're going to catch fire on the road it might be against Oakland. They're 7-2 in the past nine meetings with the A's, and 20-6 in their past 26 trips to the East Bay. In addition, the Mariners have the hottest pitcher in the majors on the hill (see below).

Hottest pitcher: James Paxton, Mariners (2-0, 0.00 ERA)

Paxton has yet to allow an earned run over 21 innings, winning two of his three starts with just eight hits and four walks allowed. He has also struck out 22 batters, posting an impressive .113 opponent batting average with a sparkling 0.57 WHIP. He has been untouchable, and he looks to stay hot on the road. The Mariners are 4-1 in Paxton's past five road outings and 5-1 in his past six starts against teams with a losing record. Oakland has managed a dismal 2-5 mark over their past seven games at home against a left-handed starter.

Coldest pitcher: Zach Davies, Brewers (0-2, 8.79 ERA)

Davies has been terrible through three outings for the Brewers, serving up a pair of home runs in 14 1/3 innings while walking eight and striking out 11 batters. In addition, he has a terrible 2.02 WHIP with a .344 opponent batting average. He'll be opposed by St. Louis Opening Day starter Carlos Martinez. The Cardinals are 19-8 in Martinez's past 27 road starts and 21-10 in his past 31 starts against National League Central foes. St. Louis is 4-0 in Martinez's past four starts against the Brewers, and 5-0 in their past five road trips to Milwaukee. That's bad news for Davies, who isn't likely to snap out of his funk against the Cards.

Biggest UNDER run: Twins (9-2 past 11 games)

The only thing that could keep Minnesota from posting another 'under' Wednesday was Mother Nature, as the third game of the four-game set was wiped out due to rain. If Trevor Bauer's history on the road is any indication, Thursday's series finale will be a low-scoring affair. The under is 21-4-4 in Bauer's past 29 road starts. The under is also 9-2-1 in Minnesota's past 12 outings against American League Central Division rivals and 15-5-1 in their past 21 against right-handed starting pitchers. The under is 6-0-1 in Ervin Santana's past seven starts overall, and 5-0-1 in his past six assignments against AL Central foes. The under is 5-2-1 in the past eight meetings, and 5-1 in the past six clashes between the Indians and Twins are Target Field.

Biggest OVER run: Mets (9-3-1 past 13 games)

The 'over' has been a regular happening for the Mets lately, especially at Citi Field. The over is 6-2 in New York's past eight overall, and 5-0-1 in their past six games at home. For what it's worth, the over has cashed in each of the past seven Thursday games for the Mets. The over is also 8-3-1 in their past 12 clashes with divisional foes, 5-1 in Noah Syndergaard's past six home outings against a team with a losing record and 5-2 in his past seven assignments against a team with a winning percentage under .400. The over is also 9-2 in Aaron Nola's past 11 starts overall and 7-1 in his past eight road outings.

Matchup to watch: Rangers vs. Royals

The Rangers return home to Globe Life Park in Arlington after managing a poor 3-6 mark on a nine-game road swing against divisional rivals. Home hasn't exactly been an oasis for the Rangers, as they opened the season getting swept in three games against the Indians before rebounding for two of three against the Athletics. The Royals might be the elixir to cure the ills of the Rangers, as Kansas City has dropped four straight games in the Metroplex while going 0-6 in their past six against the Rangers overall. The Royals have won just one of Danny Duffy's past five road outings and three of his past 10 starts overall.

Betcha didn’t know:
Scott Feldman of the Reds has been kryptonite to Orioles star Adam Jones, as he has managed a dismal .087 batting average over 23 career at-bats. While Feldman has had his way with Jones, he has struggled with Jonathan Schoop in their brief dealings. The middle infielder has three hits in six career at-bats against Feldman, and Schoop carries a seven-game hitting streak into action. Manny Machado has also had his way with the veteran right-hander, going 5-for-11 (.455) with a double, triple, two homers and six RBI with a 1.811 OPS.

Biggest public favorite: Mets (-185) vs. Phillies

Biggest public underdog: Tigers (+120) at Rays

Biggest line move: Braves (+170 to +150) vs. Nationals

MLB roundup: Nationals sweep Braves
April 20, 2017

ATLANTA -- Not even facing R.A. Dickey's dancing knuckleball could disrupt the grooved swing of Washington's Ryan Zimmerman as the Nationals completed a three-game series sweep of the Atlanta Braves.

Zimmerman, who hit a grand slam Wednesday, connected for a two-run homer off Dickey in the sixth inning, and Washington prevailed 3-2 on Thursday night behind a 10-strikeout effort from Stephen Strasburg.

Strasburg (2-0) allowed two runs over seven innings while giving up six hits and walking two. He threw 76 of his 103 pitches for strikes. Zimmerman scored the Nationals' first run after a double and is batting .389 with five homers and 13 RBIs.

Dickey (1-2) allowed three hits and a pair of walks over seven innings while getting 12 groundouts and striking out three. Washington has won 32 of 41 games against Atlanta since the start of the 2015 season.

Athletics 9, Mariners 6

OAKLAND, Calif. -- Trevor Plouffe hit a three-run homer and Ryon Healy went 3-for-3 with a double and two RBIs as Oakland won its third straight game.

Rajai Davis went 2-for-5 with an RBI and two runs for the Athletics but left the game after the bottom of the eighth inning with an apparent leg injury. Jed Lowrie had two hits, including a double, and scored while Ryan Dull (1-1) pitched 1 1/3 scoreless innings in relief for the win.

Seattle's James Paxton entered the game with a franchise-record 21 straight scoreless innings to start the season and blanked the A's in the first and second. However, his streak ended in the third when Oakland scored three runs.

Rangers 1, Royals 0 (13)

ARLINGTON, Texas -- Delino DeShields lined an RBI single to left field with one out in the 13th inning to give Texas the victory over Kansas City.

Joey Gallo doubled off Travis Wood (0-1) with one out. The first hit for Texas since the fifth inning brought up DeShields, who had one hit coming into the game. It marked only the fourth time the Rangers had entered the bottom of the 13th inning in a scoreless game.

Dario Alvarez (1-0), the seventh Texas pitcher, picked up the win with two scoreless innings. He struck out three.

Brewers 7, Cardinals 5

MILWAUKEE -- Travis Shaw, Eric Thames and Jett Bandy each clubbed long home runs as Milwaukee slugged its way past St. Louis.

Shaw and Bandy extended homer streaks to three games. Thames hit his seventh homer in the past eight contests and has a major-league-leading eight. The Brewers lead the majors with 32 round-trippers.

Milwaukee starter Zach Davies (1-2) allowed four runs in 5 1/3 innings, but the home runs allowed him to pick up his first win. Jacob Barnes, normally the seventh-inning man, pitched the ninth for his first save of the season.

Padres 4, Diamondbacks 1

SAN DIEGO -- Wil Myers homered to extend his hitting streak to 11 games for San Diego, while Clayton Richard and two relievers shut down Arizona in the rubber match of a three-game series.

The Diamondbacks, who scored 11 runs in the series opener and entered the finale leading the major leagues in runs scored, managed one run in the final two games against the Padres and struck out 14 times Thursday.

Richard (2-2) yielded one run on nine hits in 6 2/3 innings while striking out a season-high eight and not issuing a walk. Brad Hand followed with four strikeouts in 1 1/3 innings. Brandon Maurer picked up his second save in as many nights with two strikeouts in a perfect ninth.

Phillies 6, Mets 4

NEW YORK -- Maikel Franco snapped out of a slump by delivering an RBI double and a solo homer as Philadelphia earned a rare series victory over New York. The Phillies took two of three from the Mets to snap a six-series losing streak against New York dating back to April 8-10, 2016.

Franco, who was hitting .148 entering Thursday, doubled home the first run of a two-run third before leading off the eighth with a homer.

Tommy Joseph and Andrew Knapp each had RBI doubles during a three-run second inning for the Phillies, and Aaron Altherr capped the third inning with an RBI groundout. Joseph finished with three hits while Altherr had two.

Orioles 2, Reds 1 (10)

CINCINNATI -- J.J. Hardy's single in the 10th inning drove home Mark Trumbo with the go-ahead run as Baltimore topped Cincinnati.

Darren O'Day (1-1) pitched one inning with two strikeouts to earn the victory. Brad Brach retired the Reds in order in the 10th for his second straight save.

Jonathan Schoop homered for the Orioles, who took two of three from Cincinnati. Baltimore starter Wade Miley allowed only one hit through seven innings as Joey Votto's solo home run in the fourth tied the score 1-1.

Indians 6, Twins 2

MINNEAPOLIS -- Carlos Santana had three hits, including a pair of RBI doubles, and Trevor Bauer had his best outing of the season as Cleveland swept Minnesota.

Bauer (1-2) pitched 6 1/3 innings and struck out seven while allowing two runs on three hits and two walks. Abraham Almonte had two hits for the Indians, who lost seven of their previous nine games heading into the three-game rain-shortened series.

Twins starter Ervin Santana went six innings before being relieved by Tyler Duffey (0-1) to start the seventh. Ervin Santana stretched his scoreless-inning streak to 22 before Carlos Santana doubled home Almonte in the fifth.

Red Sox 4, Blue Jays 1 (10)

TORONTO -- Mookie Betts hit a three-run double against Jason Grilli in the 10th inning to give Boston the rubber match of the three-game series.

After the Red Sox took a 1-0 lead in the ninth on an RBI single by Xander Bogaerts against Roberto Osuna, Kendrys Morales tied the game when he led off the bottom half with a homer off closer Craig Kimbrel (1-0). Kimbrel pitched a perfect 10th.

Boston's Chris Sale struck out 13 in eight scoreless innings in which he allowed four hits and one walk. Toronto's Marco Estrada pitched six scoreless innings, allowing three hits and two walks with seven strikeouts.

Astros 2, Angels 1

HOUSTON -- Lance McCullers continued his dominant pitching in his home park as Houston claimed a series victory.

McCullers (2-0) did not allow a hit until Andrelton Simmons opened the fifth inning with a single to left. He pitched 6 2/3 scoreless innings and has allowed three or fewer runs in each of his 23 career home starts. He improved to 11-4 at Minute Maid Park.

Carlos Beltran and Jake Marisnick hit solo home runs against Los Angeles starter Matt Shoemaker (0-1).

Rays 8, Tigers 1

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. -- Tampa Bay got five strong innings from spot starter Erasmo Ramirez and completed a three-game sweep of Detroit.

The Rays moved Ramirez (2-0) out of the bullpen to fill in for the injured Jake Odorizzi. After allowing a leadoff home run to Ian Kinsler, Ramirez held the Tigers to one hit and zero runs for the rest of his 66-pitch outing.

Tampa Bay has won six straight at Tropicana Field, its longest home streak in nearly two years. Steven Souza Jr. went 3-for-5 with a homer, a double, a triple and three RBIs for the Rays.

Jaguars @ Texans (-5.5)
Eagles @ Redskins (-2.5)
Cardinals @ Lions (-2.5)
Raiders @ Titans (even)

Chargers @ Broncos (-4.5)

**********

Armadillo: Friday's List of 13:Quick thoughts on the ’17 NFL schedule

13) 2017 NFL season opens on September 7, when the Chiefs visit New England. Giants are in Dallas for the Week 1 Sunday night game.

Monday night doubleheader in Week 1 is Saints @ Vikings, followed by the Chargers playing in Denver.

12) Falcons christen their new stadium with a Week 2 Sunday night game vs Green Bay; they visit Foxboro on October 22, the first of three consecutive road tilts (NE-NYJ-Carolina).

How did the Braves/Falcons get new stadiums in the same year? Economy in Georgia must be doing really well.

11) Three of Giants’ first six games are primetime games; three of their four primetime games are on the road. Big Blue has three west coast trips in the last eight games; SF in Week 10, Oakland in Week 13, Arizona in Week 16.

Three of their last four games are at home. Giants also play against four of the six rookie head coaches this season.

10) Eagles have three straight road games in December; Seattle-LA Rams-Giants; then they play the Raiders at home on Christmas nite and finish with the Cowboys on New Years’ Eve.

9) Same deal for New England, which has five road games in six weeks in Weeks 10-15, with three straight road dates, at Buffalo-Miami-Pittsburgh- they close with two home games.

8) Russell Wilson played his last year of college ball at Wisconsin; Seahawks play their opener in Green Bay, the FOX 4:25 game in Week 1. Solid QB matchup.

7) There are six divisional games in Week 1 this season, including Eagles-Redskins and Ravens-Bengals.

6) Vikings are in Green Bay for a Week 16 (Dec 23) Saturday night game that is also Minnesota’s 4th road game in a five-week stretch. Why does the NFL schedule nite games for late December in Green Bay? Do they care if fans freeze to death?

5) Rams’ coach Sean McVay faces his old team in Week 2, when the Redskins visit the LA Coliseum.

Rams go to Dallas in Week 4, with the Cowboys coming off a Week 3 Monday nighter in Arizona.

4) Rams/Chargers have three home games at the same time; where will the LA media go? Chargers are playing in a soccer stadium in Carson for the next two years- place seats 30,000.

3) Thanksgiving Day slate: Vikings @ Lions, Chargers @ Dallas, Giants @ Redskins.

2) NFL must think the Steelers are going to be really good (they almost always are); Pittsburgh is on in primetime four weeks in a row, in Weeks 11-14: Tennessee-Green Bay-@ Cincinnati-Baltimore. NFL’s TV mavens will be rooting for Big Ben to stay healthy all season.

1— Buffalo doesn’t play the Patriots until December, when they meet twice; Pats-Colts-Miami visit Buffalo in December. Bills finish with road games in Foxboro/Miami.

Indy opens in LA; I’m guessing they would’ve been happier opening in Buffalo and playing in LA in December.
