Quote of the Day
”However it works, it’s a win. Obviously, it’s a huge play at the end. Offensively, we did well. I’ve been in games like this before and it’s a lot better when you win.”

**********************************

Sunday’s Den: Wrapping up a fun Saturday of football…….

13) Texas A&M 41, Alabama 38:
— Aggies led this game 24-10 at halftime.
— Alabama blocked punt for a TD; A&M ran ensuing kick back for a TD.
— A&M scored ten points in last 3:00 to post the upset.

— Alabama outgained A&M 522-379.
— A&M QB Calzada threw for 285 yards, tying TD with 3:00 left.
— Alabama QB Young threw for 369 yards, three TD’s.

12) Oklahoma 54, Texas 48:
— RB Brooks ran 33 yards for a TD with 0:03 left.
— Longhorns hit 31-yard TD pass with 1:23 left to tie game.
— Texas led this game 28-7 after first quarter.

— Sooners’ freshman QB Williams came off bench, threw for 211 yards, 2 TD’s.
— Brooks carried ball 25 times for 217 yards.
— Total yardage: 662-516, Oklahoma

11) Ole Miss 52, Arkansas 51:
— Hogs scored TD at 0:00 to make score 52-51; they went for 2 points and the win.
— To me, this was such a terrific game; you go to OT and the added TV exposure, which should benefit your recruiting. STAY ON TV!!!! Free advertising.
— Been long time since I saw a game where both team ran for 300+ yards.
— Total yardage was 676-611, Arkansas; Hogs had 38 first downs. Thirty. Eight.

The two offensive coordinators in this game, Kendal Briles and Jeff Lebby, are brothers-in-law.

10) Wake Forest 40, Syracuse 37 OT:
— Wake Forest is 6-0 for first time since 1944.
— Syracuse led 21-10 in second quarter.
— Deacons’ WR Perry caught three passes for 137 yards, all TD’s, one in OT.
— Syracuse ran ball for 354 yards, outgained Wake 514-426.

9) Utah 42, USC 26:
— If USC’s athletic director doesn’t have Wake Forest coach Dave Clawson on top of his list for the Trojans’ head coaching job, then he is committing malpractice. Wake Forest is smallest of all the Power 5 colleges; very tough place to win- Wake is 40-27 the last six seasons- they were 21-40 the five years before that.
— Firing Clay Helton in September made a rich donor(s) happy, but it was stupid.

8) Virginia 34, Louisville 33:
— Down 30-13 at one point, Cavaliers scored winning TD with 0:22 left.
— Virginia’s lefty QB Armstrong threw for 487 yards, three TD’s.
— Total yardage: Virginia, 522-503.

7) Upsets of the Week:
— Texas A&M (+19) 41, Alabama 38
— Florida State (+17.5) 35, North Carolina 25
— Akron (+14) 35, Bowling Green 20
— Northern Illinois (+13) 22, Toledo 20- Upsetting day in the MAC.
— Ball State (+12.5) 45, Western Michigan 20- Three double digit dogs won SU in MAC
— Boise State (+6.5) 26, BYU 17

6) Iowa 23, Penn State 20:
— Penn State led 17-3 in first half, then their QB got hurt. Not good.
— Nittany Lions’ backup QB was 7-21 for 34 yards, two INT’s.
— Iowa outscored PSU 13-0 over final 16:36 of the game.

5) Kentucky 42, LSU 21:
— Kentucky is 6-0 for first time since 1950.
— SEC Network did this game; Jordan Rodgers is a very good analyst- he is also Aaron Rodgers’ brother, who played QB at Vanderbilt.

The best TV teams are like two friends sitting there watching the game, having a beer, and we get to eavesdrop on them. Thats what this game was like; Rodgers and Tom Hart.

They were talking openly on the air about LSU coach Ed Orgeron being on the hot seat now; he won the national title when he had Joe Burrow at QB two years ago, but now they’re 8-8 since Burrow went to the NFL, and 8-8 doesn’t cut it in Baton Rouge.

There is a book out there called Meat Market, about recruiting in college football and it focuses on when Orgeron was coach at Ole Miss. If you like college football, read that book, and make your own judgements; I won’t say another word about it.

4) Notre Dame 32, Virginia Tech 29:
— Senior K Doerer made a 48-yard FG with 0:17 left.
— Notre Dame scored 10 points in final 2:29 to pull out the win.

3) Georgia Tech 31, Duke 27:
— Tech threw a 36-yard TD pass with 0:51 left.
— Yellow Jackets led 14-0 in first quarter.
— Duke ran 91 plays, Tech 64.

2) Michigan 32, Nebraska 29:
— Wolverines kicked FG with 1:29 left for the win.
— Nebraska rallied to lead 29-26 after trailing 19-7.
— Michigan kicked two FG’s in last 3:00; they’re 6-0.

1) Texas State 33, South Alabama 31, OT:
— They needed four rounds of OT to settle this one.
— South Alabama led 17-7 at halftime, 24-10 in 4th quarter.
— South Alabama’s QB is Jake Bentley, who previously played at South Carolina, Utah.
