Michigan CB Clark has torn ACL
September 26, 2016
ANN ARBOR, Mich. (AP) Michigan coach Jim Harbaugh says starting cornerback Jeremy Clark suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament against Penn State and is likely done for the season.
Clark, a fifth-year senior, made 10 tackles and is tied for team-high honors with three pass breakups for the fourth-ranked Wolverines.
Harbaugh said junior Brandon Watson and freshmen David Long and Levert Hill will be called on to help make up for the loss. He also said the Michigan coaching staff will look into the possibility of a medical hardship ruling, which could grant Clark a sixth year of eligility.

Florida QB Del Rio 'doubtful' Saturday
September 26, 2016
GAINESVILLE, Fla. (AP) Florida quarterback Luke Del Rio is ''highly doubtful'' to play Saturday at Vanderbilt.
Coach Jim McElwain won't rule Del Rio out against the Commodores (2-2, 0-1 Southeastern Conference), saying ''I'm still not going to count him out.''
Del Rio injured his left knee against North Texas and sat out Saturday's 38-28 loss at Tennessee . Fifth-year senior Austin Appleby, a graduate transfer from Purdue, is expected to make his second straight start for the 23rd-ranked Gators (3-1, 1-1).
McElwain says Del Rio won't practice Monday but ''we'll try to ease him a little bit on Tuesday, keeping him involved in the game plan.'' Del Rio traveled to Knoxville, suited up and signaled in calls from the sideline. McElwain says Del Rio ''was really good for our team. ... He's a valuable piece of this.''

Badgers facing tough Big Ten stretch
September 25, 2016
EAST LANSING, Mich. (AP) It's rare these days for a team to beat Michigan State so soundly that the game is essentially over midway through the fourth quarter.
Alabama did it in last year's national semifinals, and now Wisconsin has a blowout win over the Spartans on its resume - the latest sign that the Badgers should be treated as contenders in what could be a loaded Big Ten.
Wisconsin forced four turnovers and held Michigan State to 75 yards rushing in Saturday's 30-6 win over the Spartans. The Badgers moved up three spots to No. 8 in the AP poll Sunday, and Michigan State fell nine spots to No. 17.
Wisconsin (4-0, 1-0) has not allowed more than 17 points in a game this season, and the Badgers have allowed only three offensive touchdowns.
''Well, I've been lucky. I've been around some really good defenses,'' coach Paul Chryst said after Saturday's win. ''Today, it was big and I thought again it was a good plan by our defensive coaches because our kids understood it and they were able to execute it and they were opportunistic.''
If Michigan State sometimes seems overlooked in a league that includes Urban Meyer and Jim Harbaugh, one can only imagine how Wisconsin feels. The Badgers won three straight Big Ten titles from 2010-2012, but they've made only one appearance in the conference title game since - a 59-0 loss to eventual national champion Ohio State in 2014.
With Ohio State, Michigan and Michigan State in the East Division, it's hard for teams on the other side of the league to earn too much of the spotlight, but Wisconsin has an opportunity to change that. The Badgers already have beaten LSU and Michigan State, and their next two games are at No. 4 Michigan and against No. 2 Ohio State.
If they win either of those two, they'd have another significant victory that could serve them well with the playoff committee if they were to win the league championship.
''Every time I get on ESPN there's all this talk about this stretch of three games,'' defensive end Alec James said, after Wisconsin won the first one with ease.
Michigan State rushed for 260 yards the previous weekend at Notre Dame, but Wisconsin's front contained running back LJ Scott and pressured quarterback Tyler O'Connor. Michigan State's low rushing total was partially because of sacks and a mishap on a punt, but the Spartans couldn't establish any consistency moving the ball.
With Michigan State needing more from the passing game, O'Connor was intercepted three times.
''When some things, you know, opportunities presented themselves, turnovers we were able to capitalize on,'' Chryst said. ''Obviously we think it's a really good Michigan State team and a good offense, and we respect their running game, but guys were doing their assignments and they were finishing and that certainly gave us a chance.''
A season after leading the nation by allowing 13.7 points per game, the Badgers are allowing an average of 11.8. On Saturday, the Wisconsin defense gave up only two field goals and scored a touchdown itself on Leo Musso's 66-yard fumble return.
The Badgers are now 12th in the nation in total defense and 10th against the run, and if anyone doubted the legitimacy of this team's impressive start, well, Michigan State can certainly vouch for it.
''Wisconsin played good, fundamental football. They come into the football game, we talked about that all week, how they've got both hands on you up front,'' Spartans coach Mark Dantonio said. ''They know what they're doing, and they do it very, very well. They have a system, and they do it very well.''

Trubisky, Finley total 16 TDs, 0 INTs
September 26, 2016
Two of the nation's most efficient quarterbacks play in the same conference for schools less than an hour apart in the same state.
North Carolina's Mitch Trubisky and North Carolina State's Ryan Finley have combined to throw 16 touchdown passes with no interceptions, and their completion rate is 75 percent (163 of 217).
Trubisky has been especially sharp. He's the only quarterback in the country with more than 100 pass attempts who hasn't been intercepted, and only 15 QBs have thrown more than his 10 TD passes.
The first-year starter threw for career highs of 453 yards and five touchdowns in a 37-36 win over Pittsburgh on Saturday. Trubisky set the school record with 30 consecutive pass completions over the last two games, hitting his last 18 in a row last week against James Madison and 12 straight in the first half against Pitt.
He's 102 of 137, and his interception-free streak stands at a school-record 202 pass attempts.
Finley, a transfer from Boise State, is 61 of 80 with six TD passes. He was 24 of 28 for 281 yards and three touchdowns in a 49-22 win over Old Dominion.
Other notable statistical feats:
UNDISPUTED LEADER
Michigan has long been the all-time leader in wins. Now, in a statistic first reported by the Detroit Free Press, the Wolverines have taken over Notre Dame's spot as the program with the best winning percentage.
The Wolverines' 4-0 start gives them a 929-331-36 record. That's a win percentage of .7307.
Notre Dame, at 1-3, is 893-316-42 - a win percentage of .7306.
DALVIN'S BIG DAY
Florida State's Dalvin Book scored a 75-yard touchdown the first time he touched the ball against USF. He was just getting started.
Cook ran for a career-high 267 yards and established the season's national high with 329 all-purpose yards. His rushing total was second-best this season behind Donnel Pumphrey's 281-yard outing for San Diego State against California.
GETTING HIS KICKS
Auburn's Daniel Carlson kicked a school record-tying six field goals in the18-13 win over LSU, the most for the Tigers since Al Del Greco kicked six against Kentucky in 1982. Carlson is now 12 for 12 for the season.
Carlson's six field goals matched the national season high set by Florida State's Ricky Aguayo against Mississippi.
CARRYING THE LOAD
Tulsa's D'Angelo Brewer carried 46 times - seven more than any back in the nation this season - while piling up a career-high 252 yards in his team's 48-41 double-overtime victory over Fresno State. Tulsa came back from a 31-point deficit in the second quarter to win.
Brewer's 46 runs tied the school record set by Ron Jackson in 1991, and his 252 yards were most by a Tulsa back since 2008.
BIG NUMBERS, QUICKLY
Memphis' Riley Ferguson passed for 359 yards and six touchdowns and also ran for another score to spark a 77-3 win over Bowling Green. Oh, and Ferguson only played the first half.
