World Series Game 4 betting preview: Royals at Mets
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

David Wright (right) picked up a pair of hits and drove in four runs in the Mets' 9-3 win Friday.

Kansas City Royals at New York Mets (-137, 7.5)

Royals lead series 2-1.

David Wright broke out of an offensive funk Friday to lead the New York Mets to a crucial victory and give them the opportunity to even the World Series at two wins apiece when they host the Kansas City Royals in Game 4 on Saturday. Wright slammed his first homer of the postseason and finished with four RBIs - one shy of Rusty Staub's franchise World Series mark set in 1973 - as New York rolled to a 9-3 victory.

New York's captain was batting just .171 in the postseason entering Game 3 and also made a key error in the 14th inning of the Mets' Game 1 loss before turning around his fortunes. "I don't think I've swung the bat as well as I can this postseason," Wright said after Game 3. "But it's been nice to be able to contribute. I've had a couple RBIs. The name of the game is just forget about yesterday and worry about today." Kansas City may be doing some fretting after its shaky effort on Friday. The Royals held a similar 2-1 lead after three games of last year's World Series before Madison Bumgarner and the San Francisco Giants won three of the next four games to capture the crown.

TV: 8:07 p.m. ET, FOX

LINE HISTORY: Books opened the Mets -125 and are currently around -137. The total opened at 7.5.

WEATHER REPORT: Temperatures in the low-50s with wind blowing out to left field at around 5 mph.

UMPIRE REPORT: Jim Wolf will be behind the plate in Game 4. The Over has gone 7-1 in his eight games calling balls and strikes.

PITCHING MATCHUP: Royals RH Chris Young (1-0, 2.31 ERA) vs. Mets LH Steven Matz (0-1, 3.72)

Young won the opener when he worked three frames of hitless relief in a 14-inning victory. He went 5-9 with a 3.76 ERA in 24 starts with the Mets over two injury-riddled seasons (2011-12) before reviving his career in 2014 and appreciates competing against his former organization on the biggest stage in baseball. "No matter who you play in the World Series, it's special," Young said at a press conference. "It's what every player should play for, and it's certainly what I've aspired to participate in my entire career."

New York opted against bringing back Game 1 starter Matt Harvey on short rest, so Matz is making his third start of the postseason after taking six regular-season turns. The 24-year-old is starting a World Series game much sooner than he ever imagined. "I didn't know it was actually going to come to truth or whatever," Matz said at a press conference. "It's actually amazing. It's a pretty big blessing being here, especially my first year being a part of this team."

TRENDS:

* Over is 4-0 in the last four meetings.
* Royals are 5-0 in their last five games following a loss.
* Royals are 4-0 in Young's last four starts.
* Mets are 4-1 in Matz's last five starts.

SERIES PRICE: At CarbonSports.ag, the Mets are presently +160 and the Royals are -185.

Armadillo: Sunday's six-pack

-- Average salary for an NFL head coach this year is $4,851,563.

-- Sean Payton/Pete Carroll ($8M) are highest paid NFL coaches. Five coaches make $3.5M, lowest head coaching salary.

-- Will Muschamp, defensive coordinator at Auburn, makes $1.7M.

-- Florida's backup kicker Saturday was a dental student who was chosen after an open tryout where 77 Florida students tried out.

-- New York City has 35,000 police officers. THIRTY-FIVE THOUSAND!!!!

-- Between 10:30/11:15 Saturday night, there was a lot of drama in sports on TV. Wild football games at Minnesota and Duke plus the World Series game, then the end of the Temple game too. Hell of a fun Saturday night. .

Sunday's second six-pack

Westgate Super Contest (1,727 entrants-- prize pool is $2.5M)
six most popular picks in Week 7 season record: 23-18-2

6) Steelers even (462)-- Big Ben returns against the unbeaten Bengals.

5) Broncos +3 (470)-- Battle of unbeatens, both coming off of byes.

4) Bears +1.5 (499)- Vikings lost their last seven visits to Windy City.

3) Packers -3 (511). Lot of opinions both ways on this game.

2) Jets -2.5 (530)-- Jets will miss center Mangold if he can't go here.

1) Cardinals -5 (538)-- Arizona's last game before its bye week.

Armadillo: Sunday's List of 13: Wrapping up a sports Saturday.....

13) Miami 30, Duke 27-- Hurricanes scored on a bizarre, 8-lateral kick return for the win as time expired, after Duke scored to take the lead with 0:06 left. Miami had one runner who appeared to be down before he lateraled and at least one illegal block, but since this wasn't basketball, Duke didn't get bailed out by the refs.

Officiating guru Mike Pereira of FOX: "they used replay to decide to pick up the flag for the block at the 25. Replay is not allowed to reveiw a call for that." OK then.

This is third Saturday in a row that a nationally televised game ended on a bizarre play on special teams. College football is wildly entertaining.

12) Michigan 29, Minnesota 26-- Coaching malpractice by the Gophers' staff, plain and simple. Minnesota has ball on 1-yard line after a TD was overruled by replay with 0:19 left. Gophers had one timeout left.

Refs wound the clock after the ball was re-set; Minnesota took so much time to run its play (incomplete pass) there were only 0:02 after the play- then they got stuffed on a QB sneak as the game ended. No way they shouldn't have gotten at least three plays-- those Minnesota kids played their asses off, they needed better coaching at the end.

11) Notre Dame 24, Temple 20-- This was also a really good game; channel 205 on DirecTV has eight screens on it-- it had four college football games, plus the World Series and some other stuff too. This guy who coaches Temple is going to get offers to move up the coaching ladder pretty soon- the Owls are legitimately good.

10) Oklahoma State 70, Texas Tech 53-- Tech has home losses this year where they scored 52-53 points; here's some advice: RECRUIT DEFENSIVE PLAYERS!!!!

9) Virginia Tech 26, Boston College 10-- Maybe BC, Texas Tech could just trade some kids; BC has a putrid offense but a good defense. Recruit a bleepin' QB. Just go to Texas or Florida and sign a couple kids who can pass. Everyone else does.

8) Iowa State 24, Texas 0-- Longhorns have played three true road games, have been outscored 112-10 in those games. Why exactly did they fire Mack Brown?

7) Purdue 55, Nebraska 45-- Cornhuskers turned ball over five times, ran for only 77 yards, threw for 407 with a backup QB. Losing to Purdue in football isn't good for a coach's job security; luckily for coach Riley, its only his first year in Lincoln.

6) San Diego State 41, Colorado State 17-- Aztecs are sitting atop Mountain West, which seems to be down this year, but San Diego State ran for 276 yards here.

5) Golden State 134, New Orleans 120-- Steph Curry had 53 points, nine assists for the Warriors. Pelicans have severe injury issues, but 53-9 is a really big night, and has not happened a lot in NBA history.

4) USC 27, Cal 21-- Solid road win for Trojans and interim coach Helton, who is now 2-0 since taking over. Golden Bears lost their last three games.

3) Florida 27, Georgia 3-- If Miami wanted to hire alum Mark Richt as its new head coach, how many people in Georgia would object? This is another team without a QB; how does this happen at the SEC level?

2) Ole Miss 27, Auburn 19-- Will Muschamp makes $1.7M a year and he isn't head coach at Auburn; whoever foots that bill can't be real happy today. Rebels threw the ball for 402 yards against the $1.7M coordinator's defense. Auburn is 4-4.

1) Stanford 30, Washington State 28 -- Coogs missed 43-yard FG on last play, but it was their red zone failures in first half that cost them here. Kid was 5-5 on FGs for night before missing the last kick. Tough end to a rainy night in Pullman. Solid win for Cardinal, who haven't lost since the opener at Northwestern.

World Series - Game 5
November 1, 2015

KANSAS CITY ROYALS (105-72) at NEW YORK METS (98-77)

First pitch: Sunday, 8:07 p.m. ET
World Series – Game 5
Sportsbook.ag Line: Kansas City +130, New York -140, Total: 7

The Royals will be looking to close out the World Series with a victory over the Mets in Game 5 on Sunday.

New York held another lead late in the game on Saturday, but a series of errors gave the Royals a lead. The Mets have now allowed some poor fielding to cost them victories in both Game 1 and Game 4.

They will need to find a way to put it behind them and extend this series with a win on Sunday.

This game will feature the same starters that faced off in the opening game of this series, as RHP Matt Harvey (15-8, 2.90 ERA, 206 K) of the Mets takes on RHP Edinson Volquez (14-11, 3.71 ERA, 170 K) of the Royals.

All four games in this series have gone Over the total heading into this one. Edinson Volquez is 11-3 against the money line when pitching with a total of 7 or less over the past two seasons.

The Mets, however, are 18-2 against the money line as a home favorite of -125 to -150 this season.

2B Omar Infante (Oblique) is the only regular missing from the Royals lineup and SS Ruben Tejada (Leg) is the only one who will not be playing for the Mets.

The Royals have a chance to close out this series on Sunday and avoid facing Jacob deGrom in a potential Game 6.

Edinson Volquez had a dramatic week after losing his father, but he is set to start this game on Sunday. Volquez tossed a quality start in Game 1, allowing just three earned runs in six innings of work. He allowed six hits in that game, though, and will need to do a better job of avoiding bats in this contest. C Salvador Perez (.264, 4 HR, 7 RBI in playoffs) was the best hitter for the Royals in Game 4, going 3-for-4 with a double and an RBI in the game. He will need to provide some more offense moving forward in this series.

Kansas City will also need a better performance out of 1B Eric Hosmer (.200, 1 HR, 16 RBI in playoffs), who went 0-for-4 against the Mets in Game 4. He is one of the Royals’ most consistent hitters and has to get back to being the clutch performer he has been over the past two seasons.

The Mets are going to be extremely upset with themselves after blowing a lead in the top of the eighth inning, but they need to pull themselves together and do their best to win this game on Sunday.

Matt Harvey is going to be the starter in this one after allowing just three earned runs in six innings of work in Game 1. Harvey has allowed seven earned runs in 18.2 innings on the mound in this postseason and he will be looking to allow one or less runs in this start for the first time all playoffs.

Offensively, OF Yoenis Cespedes (.235, 2 HR, 8 RBI in playoffs) will need to be a lot better on Sunday, as he has seriously slumped since the beginning of the postseason. Cespedes is just 3-for-18 over the past five games and he needs to be a presence at the plate for New York moving forward in this series or it will be nearly impossible for them to get back into it.
