Canadien wil? Are your Quebecois roots showing <HR></BLOCKQUOTE>

Strange as it sounds I have never been to Canada. I grew up in Boston, have lived all over the world but never made it to Canada. Wierd but true. Speaking of Delgado again this type of political protest is nothing new for him. As a native Puerto Rican, he was heavily involved in the movement to end the U.S. Navy’s use of the island of Vieques as weapons-testing site. And last season, during Spring Training, Delgado reportedly made no secret of his opposition to the U.S. invasion of Iraq. His stance, or lack thereof, with regard to “God Bless America” is merely his way of expressing his views. Big deal.

wilhelm?
would we even have this forum w/o our military? Does Delgado remember that we (the US) take care of Puerto Rico too? How many people died for him to be even able to play Fn baseball muchless live in a free world? This guy is a clown who deserves to hit .208 $20,000,000 a year hitting .208 refuses a trade and he''s making political statements? Whether he believes in war or not doesn't matter-you play for the home team.

In case any or you guys missed it the US is still a free country and the right to free expression is guaranteed to all. I simply stated Delgado as well as Smoltz have a right to their opinion. I don't care how much they make or what their statistics are. As far as having a milatary goes where did that come from? Personally I stand for the playing of “God Bless America” at every game I attend (granted infrenquent these days). I respect my country, I simply disagree with its decision to invade Iraq. Does that make me any less of a Patriot than you or Michael777? I fought in Viet Nam, but you don't see me crying about it, war is brutal and right now many people are going to have varied opinions about why we are involved in another one.

JohnnyD,

You are absolutely correct.

These countries that sit back and throw rocks at the only country willing and able to do the heavy lifting gets old. Canada should thank God daily their neighbor is not Iraq, Iran or Syria. They would probably need to focus on having a military. Delgado is a worthless fuk that should be kicked out of American when he enters.

not a question of crying about it,it is a question of doing something about terrorists,go ahead and vote for your pal kerry and see how safe we are...where the hell are you lander? tell me what a mean spirited republican i am,you know, the kind of guy that is for dirty water, dirty air, killing the elderly and starving children

Michael you are also entitled to your own opinion, but you have no right to make such an assumption, simply becasue I am against an unjust, and what will go down in history as an unecessary war.

Totally agree with Wilheim here....Delgado is a Puerto Rican playing for a Canadian baseball team....

What's next....send a microphone around the stadium just to make sure everyone is singing along and not just moving thier lips????

Maybe all you flagwavers should start a movement that dictates that the nationality of every player be recognized, and that the national anthem of all the countries represented by the players should all be sung.....that would be fair. Then we could just allocate another 4 hours to the game and a game scheduled for an 8:00 start would start around midnight.

SS - true I have never been to Canada, closet I have ever gotten was Niagara Falls back in the 70's. One of those things, I have lived in the Orient, Europe, South America, Latin America, and for many years in Las Vegas, along with a youth spent in Massachusetts. I know a lot of Vets and like any other group they have different opinions about almost everything. In all honesty I know how Kerry felt when he was discharged after Nam, mainly becasue I felt the same way. Comming out of Travis AFB in Cal. I was spit at by protesters. At the time it pissed me off, now I understand a lot more about the reasons behind the protests back then. That of course is another story.

<BLOCKQUOTE class="ip-ubbcode-quote"><font size="-1">quote:</font><HR> so what if he doesn't want to stand for "God Bless America". <HR></BLOCKQUOTE>

Why does he make the money that he makes? Maybe because of the good ole USA? If he didn't play baseball he would probably be picking coca leaves for $.01/hr somewhere in the Columbian jungle.

<BLOCKQUOTE class="ip-ubbcode-quote"><font size="-1">quote:</font><HR> Or is it OK for a guy hitting .375 to do whatever he wants. I notice no one has mentiond John Smoltz comments about gays. Smoltz, who is a devout Christian, caused a stir earlier this month with comments about gay marriage. He was quoted in an Associated Press story as saying, "What's next? Marrying an animal?" <HR></BLOCKQUOTE>

You queer wil?

<BLOCKQUOTE class="ip-ubbcode-quote"><font size="-1">quote:</font><HR> Canadien wil? <HR></BLOCKQUOTE>

Obviously you did not read the thread.

<BLOCKQUOTE class="ip-ubbcode-quote"><font size="-1">quote:</font><HR>Why does he make the money that he makes? <HR></BLOCKQUOTE>

Because he can hit a baseball better than almost everyone on the entire planet, that is why he makes the money he does.

<BLOCKQUOTE class="ip-ubbcode-quote"><font size="-1">quote:</font><HR>so what if he doesn't want to stand for "God Bless America". <HR></BLOCKQUOTE>

Is there some law that says he has to stand for a 7th. inning song played in a few ballparks?

Carlos should give up his 20 million contract and go back to Puerto Rico as a form of protest...Then I'll respect his views. Maybe he can join the PR National Guard there and help get that drug infested zoo under control.

P.S. Smoltz is right on the mark like his slider. The loonie left is trying to redefine marriage. I love my two dogs...should I be able to "marry" them? How about polygamy...is that cool too?
