Though it is rare you will find better out door than indoor. Very rare. And honestly it depends on the grower. It all depends on the grower. Someone who doesn't know shit growing indoor vs someone who does outdoor...of course the outdoor will be better. That might have been the case for this guy. The bud grown outdoors today that you are referring to is usually grown in large containers and fed with lots of fertilizers, hormones and ph balancers. Also it is grown at low altitude (not in tropical mountains with direct longitudunal sunlight). I wont even get into the quality of the seed genetics but they are different than the Indica gentics that are grown here in the US.
And of course I know Thai sticks are made but if you remove the string its still grown from mother earth. You dont know what you are missing. Its not the same buzz.
Yes...character, personality and buzz quality more than anything. The Thai stick and Colombian gold that I mentioned are 100% sativa. Not the watered down sativa/indica mix that they call sativa today.
You have a point about quality if you like uniform looking and nice smelling buds . You could say its like assembly line quality and quality control but the final product is missing something.
This stuff today is missing a surreal euphoria that only comes from 100% sativa grown at high altitude in the wet tropics for a "full 6 month season".

But Friends that still smoke say in NO Way or Shape is Today's Weed as good as back then.
They all say the potency of Today's weed isn't close to what it use to be.

You keep basing your bud off of personality and character. Try looking for the trichome factor and how present it is. Time is money. Nobody has time now to take 6 months to grow shit when your competitors are pumping it out in 2 months no matter how good it is in 6 months.
What's crazy to me is how many people think they are smoking good shit when they really aren't. Everyone fronts like talking it up will get them higher. If you don't know the actual strain name then that's a red flag right there.
I don't know what you guys had in the 70's and 80's but I know for a fact there wasn't this much of a development especially for indoor grown. and with what I know....the quality of indoor back then is seriously scientifically and technologically impossible for it to be better. Technology advances have improved so many things. It's hard to find good weed wherever you are today because it is so oversatured now. But the black market is competing with legalization and oversaturation now so the price drops. Meaning everyone is selling, therefore it's easier for people to sell weed than it is to get or do anything else in most areas. But that's what is happening so you end up having an epidemic of whack weed sellers and people who are selling shit that they are making money off and don't care if it's good or not. Or they are just clueless about what's good. So maybe the people you knew back then are not around and the replacement guy NOW...is garbage. Trust me...I know. Lol

A good sativa has a 12 week (3 month) flower period anyways, so 4.5 months even indoors isn't uncommon. 6 months doesn't mean or do anything for the plant. The only thing that can't be replicated indoors is size of the plant, the quality is better, hands down...

Strength and potency doesnt always mean better. There are subtleties that cant be measured. I'm not going to try to convince anyone but growing under a light bulb isnt the same as with the sun.
