With Oregon, they had some pretty good recruiting classes a few years ago. I believe they were #9 in Rivals recruiting in 2011. Which I think was a direct result of Knight pouring some money into their image and making Oregon a more attractive program. But the problem now is Kelly is no longer there, and fancy and colorful unis are no longer a new thing or the draw that it was 4 or 5 years ago. I'm sure that is at least part of the reason the Ducks recruiting has taken a hit...But not because of recruiting..which is the topic here. Pac 12 schools just don't know how to recruit. All we hear is Phil Knight this and that but he's not using his money to help recruiting
I keep reading that we're getting the kids we want... I will continue to believe that as long as we are still a player.... BTW one thing overlooked besides the uniforms is the facilities here are the best in the country... once these recruits step into this culture we have a good shot at getting the recruit to sign...
Best facilities according to who? There's no way to prove something that's opinion but I Googled ' best college football facilities ' and clicked a dozen links and not once was Oregon at the top. Top 10 accoring to most though so yes they have good facilities but not "the best"
All of these modern football facilities are becoming part of the norm. I've seen Okie State's facilities in person. It would be hard for me to believe that anybody could top them. But just about everybody is making big upgrades. http://www.nbcsports.com/college-football/footballs-facility-arms-race-can-you-top
It also never hurts to have warm weather, beaches and pretty girls to bring in the blue chip recruits. Anybody that doesn't have those things either better have a dynamic coach, proximity to a highly populated state, or knows how to cheat...the facillities is interesting... something that has/had? hurt umiami. other smaller private schools too. probably helps to have a huge student base and big state to pay for alot of this.
The answer is NO. Oregon simply does not have what it takes to become a championship team. They are missing that special ingredient that teams like Alabama, USC, Oklahoma, Texas, Florida State, and others have. They have never won an NCAA Football Championship. They have blown two chances in the past 4 years. They lose all everything QB Mariotta. Their chief rival, USC, is now off probation and has the #3 recruiting class according to 247, compared to Oregon's #16. UCLA is ahead of Oregon in recruiting. If Sark is as good an X's and O's HC as he is a recruiter, Oregon will have to wait at least 10 more years to legitimately challenge for an NCAA Crown. The slide starts this season with games at Michigan State, Arizona State, Stanford, and Washington, and hosting USC. Oregon will lose at least 2 of those games, and probably 3. That does NOT get you into the Playoff.
I am sure that Oregon will be fine, but "Fine" does not create Champions. To say that your recruiting is "fine too" shows me that you may be afraid to face the music. I do not appear to be alone in here with my assessment of Oregon. The Oregon fans that I know seem to be at a loss when it comes to explaining their loss to Ohio State. I talked to a person who is very knowledgeable about Oregon football and he agrees with me when I say that Helfrich is unable to control his team. Please correct me if I am wrong, but I believe that an Oregon player got kicked off the team the week before the big game for using pot. I never saw any Alabama players get kicked off teh team the week before the big game for that. Come to think of it, I never saw any players from any team in the big game get kicked off the team days before the game for pot usage. As soon as that news broke, I knew that Oregon was finished. It was obvious that Helfrich had no control over that team. That team was way too talented to get their tails kicked like they did. That is on the Head Coach.overall we'll be fine......our recruiting is fine too......thanks for thinking of us though
