He had no operating system and he bought one so that he could make software for Apple. The driving force behind the collapse of economies in MI, PA, OH and the rest of the Rust Belt is that a combination of business owners and union-based employees did not have sufficient foresight to implement and to nurture alternative business ideas that would give them a firm foundation in the 1990s and beyond.
The business owners promoted a xenophobic, isolationist "Buy American Only!" philosophy while the unions insisted on a perpetual cranking up of salaries and bennies that could not possibly compete with most domestic competitors and certainly not with international competitors.
Sad to say, but I firmly believe that by the year 2050, the population in the "Rust Belt" cities and surrounding areas will be about half of what it is today.
People with healthy visions for their family's futures will be forced to move southward - many into the region that is currently Mexico and Central America as the North American Union becomes both a political and an economic reality.
We all saw how well the Banks did without any Govt control.. We can see how all of these Privately run prisons are saving the taxpayers soo much money (sarcasm)...
