1. Pitching not as impressive as it appears
-Blister Beckett always a liability
-Schilling old and unreliable
-Dice-K- who knows
-bullpen iffy at best

2. Hitting
-Other then the 2 guns, not another reliable bat in the lineup. Youkilis... ummm maybe

3. Did i mention im not sold on the pitching or hitting?

You need to do better ... these points are so lame, it's really not worth debating ... especially the "bullpen iffy at best" comment

I think there is a middle ground. The pitching staff is solid but there is no clemens or Pedro there. In a short series that is huge. Also some age as other posters have mentioned. Bullpen is good for sure but Papelbon has a shoulder/arm that needs rest and who knows by September. Lineup is not a great offensive team. Very good though and balanced. Team has done very well but long time to go. Not fair just because of good April/may to saddle this team with incredible expectations and then say they did not achieve or set up for criticism. They deserve CREDIT so far but long way to go. Many things will happen, many moves will be made, injuries, etc etc....one of the reasons baseball is so great is that you just never know what will happen. Who would have thought the Yanks would be 21-29 at this point and the Red Sox who did not make the playoffs last year would be playing 700 ball (Dice k the Sox big pickup has been good but not great either)?

Kevin Youkilis would probably be the MVP of the league if the season were to end today.

I think it would be Mag Ordonez of the Tigers (358 BA 12 HR and 48 RBI'S). He has been sick and ESPN did a piece on this Fish and said MAgs over Arod right now. Youkilis is one good baseball player and very smart hitter. He is good. Mike Lowell is also have a super year. He is a pro plays good defense and also deserves a lot of credit. Pedroia at second base is a scrappy player that reminds me of marty Barrett and is a winner that is coming on too.

Lowell has had a very below average year defensively this year and Youkilis has yet to make an error playing 1B/3B.

Nice little start so far...Youk has been awesome and carries a spirit that no one on the Yanks has right now. My biggest beef last year was the pen and Oki and company have righted the ship. I hate to say it but Timlin out has kept me happy. Dutin is now hitting as well as The Captain. JD has been a downer. Could we really wake up after this weekend and have the Yanks almost 20 back?? Pinch me

Nobody has stuff like the Red Sox do.

This is the best pitching staff anyone has put together in some time.

They dont have to 'get hot' they are just overwhelmingly talented.

IMO they haven't even been hot yet...that is what is scary...papi and Manny have had so so years for them, lowell has found his old form, he did make a lot of errors espoecially early....Youk is doing great but other thna that the rest are just going about their normal business...Papplebon staying put was huge, I never did understand that move.

Paps, top closer in baseball right now and only makes the leauge minimum. I'm guessing he asked for the closer role because he knew he could help out more and make a name for himself much easier that way ?

I think Manny does not like cold weather. Warmer it gets outside, better he hits. Almost had the cycle the other day.

Piniero looked awesome for 1.2 the other day. Dont count him out.

ONE BLOWN SAVE all year ... and it's not like this team is the KC Royals in that they're always behind and don't get to blow saves ... this bullpen has probably had to save/hold more games than anyone else

Further proof of two things Fish:

1. Importance of PITCHING...Pitching wins....PERIOD.

2. Batting average is overrated. I think the Sox as a team is 4th in average anyway despite this...I think.

Lugo still gets on and steals a few bags. I could do without Coco-huge disappointment over the past 2 years.
