You're missing my point. The Boston Marathon is symbolic to America and people view it as one of America's great traditions. Watching the Red Sox and watching the Boston Marathon is a tradition every single Patriot's Day. Thousands attend these events each year. It's a major target due to what the explosion just did to the psyche of Americans around the world. The number of killed is irrelevant.
You do realize the security including bomb sniffing dogs and police sweeps on events like this are extremely planned and detailed right? Usually events like this are blocked off 24-48 hours ahead of time and security sweeps begin and continue on the hour.
There is no poor planning involved here.
i disagree. i bet the majority of americans dont even know about patriots day in boston. this may be a big deal in boston, but nobody celebrates it nationwide. this was an amateur job by an angry white male(you can tell by the type of explosives). the question now is what was the reason behind the attack and what rights will we give up for security?
patrick has already talked about searching everybodys bags tomorrow, which is just the beginning.
Seems like it to me if they could not detonate the other devices and poorly timed the 2 that were set off.
Bomb sniffing dogs are basically useless unless c-4 or black powder was used.
They can't detect things such as a hydrogen peroxide bomb.
Still looks domestic to me......but i will say is this.......If it was a Saudi, we should make their oil fields radioactive....i can ride my bike to work.

LITTLETON, Colo.—The U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives is conducting a three-day training for bomb sniffing dogs in detecting hydrogen peroxide bombs.
About 20 dogs from seven states across the country will participate in the training that begins Tuesday at Dakota Ridge High School in Littleton.
Bomb detection dogs are being trained to pass the National Odor Recognition Test that has been developed by the ATF.
Training includes detection of hydrogen peroxide explosives.
Such explosives were used in homemade bombs in the 2004 and 2005 bombings in Madrid and London, as well as the failed 2009 Christmas underwear bombing attempt of an airliner over Detroit and the 2009 thwarted New York subway attack plot by Aurora resident Najibullah Zazi, who used beauty supplies to make an explosive.

Everyone in America knows what the Boston Marathon is although most don't celebrate it, most equate the marathon with Patriot's Day (even if they don't know what that means.) Do amateurs us ball barrings in their explosives?
I enjoy the Boston Marathon and have probably watched 3 out of the last 5, but I didn't equate it with Patriots Day. I don't recall even ever hearing about Patriot Day.
I'm just hoping that they catch the person(s) who are responsible for this. Hopefully with all the cameras, they may be able to figure this out. Given that two devices didn't go off, should help as well. Whoever did this was smart enough to know that it would get maximum media coverage. I'm calling it a night, been a long sad day here in Beantown.
I just walked around the perimiter of the explosions (they won't let anyone get onto Boylston for several surrounding blocks) and I was surprised at the level of calmness exhibited by all of the people walking around... very surreal. It reminded me quite a bit of Sept 12, 2001 when everyone was cordial toward one another on the streets of Boston. This is one of those instances in life when many who previously thought that "it will never happen here" actually witnessed it "Happening here" and it really makes quite the impression on you. Something else that was quite different from previous Patriot's Days was the fact that the barrooms were near empty. I walked past several and the barkeeps and waitresses were all huddled up around the bar leaning on their elbows just watching all the people walking by without stopping in for a drink. Doubt if I ever see that again in this city.
BTW guys ... will you please cool it with all of that speculation on who and what and why... be patient and let the results surface over the next few days. I've already heard too many Einsteins on some of the talk-radio shows who are absolutely sure who did it (whether it was Muslims, Al Qaeda specifically, North Koreans, Domestic radicals, Tea Party radicals etc) and many of them will be proven wrong. It does no any good to fly off the handle when nobody, not even investigators at the scene, have all of the facts aligned yet. Give it a few days and things will come to light. Be cool fools - we're supposed to be Sharp here on this site or so I thought!?!
