Not even close as Cincy was in a horrible spot & played like they were. TCU has better overall athletes on their team & could matchup against top teams without a problem, same goes for Boise.
I'm not even willing to say TCU matched up particularly well against Boise State, and I'd put Boise at now better than the Bearcats this season, if not a half-notch below.
Teams like TCU and Boise State, and even Cincinnati, have a smattering of first-rate athletes on their team, but there's a big dropoff from first-team to second-team. That makes a big difference. TCU had a similar defense in 2007 to this season -- finishing 11th in PPG, as opposed to 6th this season -- and a down Texas team scored double the Frogs' season average on them.
All three teams -- Boise State, TCU and Cincinnati -- had excellent seasons and should take pride in them, but to suggest they're as good as the top-flight teams in meaningful games is to ignore the reality of the players on the field.
Could they win in a matchup? Certainly, but not often, and all the breaks would have to go just right for them. But ask yourself this: If Texas, Alabama or Florida played in the Mountain West, the WAC or even the Big East, how many years would pass without a conference loss? Reverse the scenario, though, and there are no 12-0 seasons in store for the little guys.
