Zit, if im wrong im wrong, im not arrogant to the point where i think im always right. I think being wrong isnt a bad thing and if you can prove me otherwise, the so be it. These are quotes i just pulled off a google. How can you say it doesnt promote it, when in fact it instructs stoning?

Christians don't follow the Old Testament, but the teachings of Christ
in the New Testament.

The coolest bible passage ever:
Deuteronomy 25:11-12 (New International Version)

New International Version (NIV)

"11 If two men are fighting and the wife of one of them comes to rescue her husband from his assailant, and she reaches out and seizes him by his private parts, 12 you shall cut off her hand. Show her no pity."

If a guy's wife grabs your coinpurse during a fight, God says you MUST cut off her hand without mercy. That fucking rules!

And let's not forget the dude whose corpse who brings other dead people
back to life (shame they forget to interview the guy afterwards):

2 Kings 13:20-21 (New International Version)

20 Elisha died and was buried.
Now Moabite raiders used to enter the country every spring. 21 Once while some Israelites were burying a man, suddenly they saw a band of raiders; so they threw the man's body into Elisha's tomb. When the body touched Elisha's bones, the man came to life and stood up on his feet."

Wish I could bury all my loved ones in this dude's tomb and never have to worry about that silly mortality problem ever again.

The coolest bible passage ever:
Deuteronomy 25:11-12 (New International Version)

Ill do you one better. Matthew 11:25, 26

'"I praise you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because you have hidden these things from the wise and learned, and revealed them to little children. Yes, Father, for this was your good pleasure."

:think2:

Can anyone read between the lines here but me?

I know, I know: Believe it, or ELSE. Only special people get to understand the mumbo jumbo of the bible.

"
Reason is the enemy of faith, my friend
A head that's filled with knowledge
soon is too bloated with its own weight
to fit through heaven's gate
So think with your heart
it's the only organ for salvation
think with your heart
don't deduce yourself to eternal damnation
think with your heart
'cause you know that the almighty sees us
think only with your heart
whoever heard of the bleeding brain of Jesus?
think only with your heart."

Why do some of the cultish/hardcore Christians not take their kids to doctors when they are sick? Is that some passage in the bible they are following? I hear a few stories every year of some whack job Christian cults who lose kids because they don't believe in taking their kids to the doctor. Is there a specific passage they are pointing to that you know of?

Was the Creation of the earth in the new or the old?

Of course its in the Old Testament. Zits statement opens up to some big questions and he is the only Christian i have met that would actually say this, so props to him. In his defense , the NT as i have always said is like the Bible 2.0. No way they could continue to get people to buy into that madness, so Christ and his words were wisdom for a new age and i can dig it. With that said however, it puts the bible into suspect category. Sure it was meant for the Jews, but the bible is still the backbone of Christianity and you cant have the NT without the OLD Testament. So with the earth being created before the universe and all of the other logic defying topics, this is a big step for truly understanding exactly what is what.

Hitman, i believe these people are just off the reservation to be honest. As kooky as all organized dated religion is, im pretty sure there is nowhere in the Bible that sates this to be a thing to do. I think its just a case where people come up with something better then what is currently out there. Like Mormons or what have you. This however wont catch on like the Mormons did because most people arent going to risk their child's life based on just prayer. Thankfully, we have evolved to the point here in the US where religion has its place but it doesnt supersede everything like logic. Im not a religious expert so if someone with more knowledge then me would like to chime in fee free. I hope this makes sense Hitman.

Illini. Don't get me wrong. I'm not saying all that is right is a subscription to atheism. I'm just a little suprised at your seemingly wanting to discount science as if it doesnt mean anything.

You do realize that the bible is just a collection of storys writen for the pagan jewish to keep them amused back in the day. And I have nothing against the jewish. Some of my family is. But they would agree. It is what it is.

And the invisible man floating in the sky thing? It's the tooth fairy and santa that has some adults fooled. I don't know what else to say. I think that stuff is kind of crazy to believe in as a grown man and I have evolved past that.

I like church becuase it's communal and gives people a reason to get together. But. Come on.
I hate church. Nothing but a bunch of bullshit. "I'm great, the kids are great, God is good, how are you?"

But believing in God is the easiest thing in the world for me to accept. Of course there's a God. Athiesm has the burden of proof. Life and matter and love and emotions and lungs that breathe and eyes that see.......the creation......that is the proof that there is something supernatural that created all this. You wanna take the position that this all came from nothing and wasn't designed by anything? Be my guest. But that kind of faith that there is not an invisible God.....that is going to be challenged daily in your mind for the rest of your life, and rightfully so. Of course there is a creator.

Yeah I agree that it is complete whackjobs that are only doing this and anybody with a half a brain wouldn't subscribe to taking their sick kid to a church before a doctor.

Maher is not an atheist. He is agnostic. Huge difference. He doesnt have a problem with people who believe in God. He has a problem with people who are 100 percent sure there is a God. Like me he doesnt understand what is so difficult about saying "I am just not sure"

This is a correct summation of Maher's attitude.

However, understand that to the rabid Fundamentalist Christian, if you haven't accepted Jesus Christ as Lord or are at least on the way to doing so, you pretty much are a God-hating atheist.

Or a Jew.

But definitely one of the two.

Id tear it up. she is a sexy little kitten. And for the record...i dont think woman have to be a wanna be whore, i think they can pull that off if they so desire. Secondly, women that look that good surly dont have to beg to get laid, its kinda the way nature works.

This is absolutely NOT a correct summation of Maher's position.

I'll grant you that maybe he hasn't completely dismissed the idea that there is a supreme being or some kind of metaphysical force. So maybe, technically, he is an agnostic.

But he delights in his contempt for Christianity, and anyone who dares believe in it. He completely dismisses the Judeo-Christian concept of God, and mocks and belittles anyone who dares to disagree.

Agnostics don't bother me, and atheists don't bother me. I respect their right to their beliefs. (Religious fanatics, on the other hand - a very minute percentage of whom are Christian, btw - are a different story). I find Maher amusing, but he exhibits much less respect toward Christians than Christians exhibit toward him.

I like Maher and find him semi amusing. He is without a doubt a bigot when it comes to religion.

He's got this very wrong too. Only some of the Jews get killed, Some accept Jesus as their Lord and Savoir and get to live.

The real question is, how in the fuck can anyone take this shit seriously?

I don't care if we found out tomorrow that Obama hates rainbows and puppies, I will never, ever vote Republican again because I cannot be a part of putting these kooknuts in a position of power.

Palin's a fucking Pentecost who speaks in tongues. It's not enough that these loonies are going to be beaten on Tuesday, I shudder in fear just thinking how close it is and how many people are voting for them.

To paraphrase Maher in Religulous, we simply cannot survive as a race until we shed this insane belief in an invisible god.
Bill Maher is a comedic genious. Real Time has the most frank and honest political converse on television.Religion is nothing more than a way a person thinks, unfortunately people act out on these thoughts........and it aint always pretty. Amy Holmes looked fantastic Friday nite.:drink:

*Well yeah, he most certainly makes plenty of hay pointing out the sillyness that is often expressed by those who are overtly (ie..Evangelicals and other prosletyzing religions) Christian.

*I'm pretty sure there's no gauge of how much or little respect "Christians" exhibit towards Bill Maher. He is, after all, an entertainer and a comedian so respect is likely not high on his list of desired responses from the public at large.
