I dont recall a trade lately where both fan bases are so upset about losing a popular player.

Imo it's a worse trade for Oakland but maybe a lose/lose for everybody.

Last I checked Oakland had the #1 starting pitcher ERA in all of baseball before this trade so I don't know what you are getting at.

As a Braves fan I watched all those Maddox, Smoltz, and Glavine teams lose 5 out of 6 WS because they could not hit.

Some of those old sayings people say all the time are wrong.

Chop despite how you feel about this trade, the Saints aren't winning the WS either..

Says the guy who took the saints under 8 wins last year and thought they would go 6-10, and picked the 4-12 Falcons to win the division and go to the super bowl.
LOL

Did you get your stuff?

As an A's fan it's okay.

Lester gives them 4 trustworthy starters in the playoffs. 4 guys who are pitching like aces. Lester is one of the best pitchers in baseball. He's gone after this year but Beane knew that Cespedes was gone after next year anyway. Cespedes is a fan favorite because of his arm and power but the guy has shit plate discipline and a low OBP. Makes bad decisions on the base paths and didn't want to play CF when the team needed him. With Gomes and now Sam Fuld (who they traded Tommy Milone for, it's crazy their AAA starter has like a 3.65 ERA over his last 3 MLB seasons, team is deeeep) they should be able to fill Cespedes' spot. Team can hit 1-to-9 and Cespedes can be replaced.

I have learned having more then 3 great pitchers is overkill in the playoffs.

Thats what hurt the Braves.
They were the best 162 game team in baseball because there 1 to 5 was better then everyone else.
Once you get into the postseason you basically have a 3 man rotation and it equalizes and marginalizes a teams depth at starting pitching when post season rotations only go 3.5 deep.

I think Oakland was good enough already to win it all without this trade.
Alteady had plenty pitching.
This was a bad move for Oakland

agree

An aging overpaid pitcher for a young superstar in the making. The guy is a stud on offense and defense.

whats so funny? The braves had the best 4 and 5 starters in baseball 6 years in a row. Would you like stats to back that up.

Avery almost won the cy young one season as a 4th starter.
Neagle won 20 games twice

Now Red Sox get Allen Craig AND Joe Kelly for John Lackey. Not sold on either guy but that's a pretty good haul for Lackey.

All I know is the Red Sox are a lot better today then they were yesterday.

Offense is dangerous. Pitching is a big issue. I don't think Kelly will have any success in that division. Any prospects left to bring up? Buchholz is struggling. De La Rosa, Webster, Workman... any of these guys expected to be good?
