A better question/poll or topic would be who faced better opponents in the finals

Don't ask some ignorant chump on a message board who's better, ask a hall-of-famer that played with both of them.

3:18 Ray Allen: "Rules are totally different now, you can't touch a guy now (I played in both those eras) - a guy will go to the line 20-25 times on ticky-tack fouls, if Michael played today
he'd EASILY average 45 points per game"

Allen has an agenda in his answer

I just want a Jordan guy to tell me MJ would have taken this bum ass Cavs team to the finals and beaten golden state

On a side note, golden state has ruined the NBA. It's not even fun anymore.

What's Ray Allen think of Lakers win total at 48.5?

Maybe he can help some of us ignorant chumps out. Having a tough time with that 1.

James is a great player - some where in the top 10 - gives 100% at every aspect of the game and makes his team a contender day 1 - but Jordan is the best ever - period

I'm of the unpopular opinion here. I used to say Michael Jordan, but I've now switched to LBJ. Sure MJ has all the rings, but think of it if you're a coach or owner. You can take MJ or LBJ in their prime as your first pick. I think I'd rather have LBJ. You can put LBJ on any team and they're a contender, I don't think that's the same with an player that's ever played the game, not even Michael Jordan. And the longer LBJ plays and does this to teams, it's gonna be harder and harder for even the stiff necks to say it isn't a valid debate. If the Lakers make it to the Western Conference finals this year it's going to be really hard to say this isn't a valid debate.

+1

Takes a real man to change his position in a debate when presented with facts. I used to say Jordan too, in fact even voted for him when this thread was created. By I have since changed my mind. Lebron is the best ever and most will agree with that by the time he finishes his career. With the way he takes care of himself, he has 5 years left of dominant ball

Y'all are high on crack or something. Just dismiss like that, a hall-of-famer that played with both of them. Michael also had a killer instinct, LeBron doesn't.

I think Ray Allen is spot on. Michael is #1, and LeBron is maybe top 5.

Why do you think Ray Allen is a good arbiter? He has no experience or track record of player evaluation. Not to mention he has significant cognitive bias. Most former players are pretty bad analysts. But you can't really put Zach Lowe on TV over Charles Barkley for obvious reasons, the masses aren't going to eat that up.

There is a reason former players have been purged from front offices for the past decade. If Daryl Morey came out tomorrow and said LeBron was better, would that be a better or worse appeal to authority to you than Ray Allen? Would you change your mind, why not? He's way smarter than Ray Allen at player evaluation. Would you dismiss Daryl Morey?

I don't even care who is better as that is the type of subjective thing that people get very opinionated about since it can never be proven and they can't lose any money for being wrong , but appealing to a former player who played with both is useless IMO. The arguments for these types of things are just so bad.
