ROB, I don't like the Yanks. But I think you hate them so much your letting your hate cloud your judgement. This lin-up they have with A-ROD is SICK. And you can easily argue the best ever. To make it even worse I would not be surprised to see a all star 2nd sacker show-up come the trading deadline...

Fish, Soriano was/is a stud. I think anytime you get the GREATEST player in the game, maybe ever! You overlook anyone you gave up to get him...And don't forget he was FLAT OUT BRUTAL during the playoffs last year. I MEAN not have a prayer batting brutal... People don't forget efforts like that in CRUNCH time!

Soriano may be a yankee again next year anyway..

ugh kodiac why do you throw bernie and lofton in there like they are all star type players still. and matsui hasnt done anything yet. if he was going to be good he would have been already i didnt see ichiro having any problems adjusting in his first year.

greatest line up or not, i know that this is the best TEAM the sox have ever had and we now rule pitching and what has always won if it isnt always the yanks it was always.. . . .the pitching

In 10 years from now sportswriters will be saying "how could Boston give up on 2 of the top 5 home run hitters of all time"? Makes you want to jump off the Brooklyn bridge if your a Beaner.

I realize Walker is gone from this years team.....this is a comparison to last years team.

The RED SOX are much better this year with the additions of REESE, BURKS, DAUBACH, SCHILLING, AND FOULKE.

lineups arent that far off, edge to yankees.. id take damon in center, nomar at short, manny in right.. couple of others are pretty close..

id take Martinez, Schilling, Lowe over the yanks top 3..

Guys, the starting pitching from both sides has got to stay healthy or we may be talking the surprising Orioles..

MATSUI LOOKED PRETTY GOOD AGAINST PEDRO WHEN HE RIPPED THAT DOUBLE IN THE CORNER.

kodiak as much as i hate the yanks it is definatly fun to speculate whats going to happen. it will be very interesting to see how stuff pans out. look at the discussions we're having and its only february. i dont ever remember talking about the NBA like this in august, except when the bulls got Rodman.

its definatly good for the sport.

and curt schilling has just posted over at SOSH, saying: (with explicitves edited by their moderator)

"Have to laugh at anyone that's even remotely shocked by this. The unlimited payroll beatching is rather old now too. It is what it is, and we'll deal with it. Does it make them better, well I don't know. Does adding a guy that, when he retires, has a legitimate chance to be the best all around player in the games history make you better????? He// yes it makes them better, offensively, defensively it's not even close, they get much better. Fact of the matter is the ownership of this team chooses to build a team based on in depth talent and character analysis, as well as payroll impact. You can't beeatch and moan about the lack of effort on the Red Sox end, they reached for the stars on this, and it didn't fit.
I'm more than ok with that. You can argue this way and that in regards to who's talked to whom, how certain guys were handled and treated this winter. But no one other than the parties involved knows what's really happened and if you look back, most, if not all, of the negative comments directed at the Red Sox fall into this area. They've worked their ahsses off to make this team a world series contender, and we are, period. Arod to the Yankees, if it happens, just makes winning this whole thing that much sweeter IMO, when it happens.
It's another challenge, but after 85 years did any of you think that getting over this final hurdle and winning it all was gonna be a cake walk? No, it'll be more fun this way. This way, when we do win it all, and you all are out there flipping birds back and forth with Yankee fans, you'll be smiling a whole lot wider.
It was gonna be a challenge before this rumor, and with or without Arod the Yankees are going to be real real good, so let's move on, let whatever happens happen, and focus on the fact that the best Boston Red Sox team in the last 100 years takes the field in 7 days, for a ride that is guaranteed to be the most memorable of any of our lives over the next 8 months, and enjoy the he// out of it."

Rob-

Schill is EXACTLY what SoSH needs...someone to slap some sense into you Sox fans. Leave the Yanks alone talk about baseball and cheer your boys on to "Cowboy the **** up" and win some games.

yes fish and also there isnt a HUGE difference between oritz and shef ortiz put up some big numbers down the stretch and led the team with game winning hits in the last 2 months of the RS, some of us argued he should have been the team MVP. shef was 2-14 in the playoffs last year. shef will be very good as a yankee though, believe he said it was a dream come true for him. . .

swami i didnt even go there to get it, a friend emailed it to me. lol, i still dont care for that site a whole lot. but you are right, we need to win and not complain. . . .thats why im saying the move is good for the rivalry and perhaps the game, it just isnt good for most of the other teams.

He came within an eyelash of being a 40-40 man........two years in a row......at age 25 and 26!!!

I don't think anyone disrepects Soriano BUT damn when you chance to add a player being called the "best ever" it's tough not to salivate.

If it were up to ME, I would love to have these guys back:

Claussen, Soriano, and Ventura

A VERY nice core to which we could have added a free agent 3B and a few pitchers and been in GREAT shape to ROCK the majors for years to come at tens of millions of dollars less in payroll.

ARod adds more spark to the team from a headlines perspective but I don't think the team needed to score more runs.
