Reefer,
Choose wisely. Read their writeups or at least follow their records OFTEN. That's the best way to choose the winners. If you catch someone who seems like he's in crystal ball mode and his descriptions of games turn out to be accurate, it's like $$$ in the bank. So when someone has a good week, read their write-ups and see if they are truly tuned in (at the time.) It may also be a good idea to "filter out" the lucky breaks. Luck doesn't come around often enough to depend on it. Accuracy counts A LOT!
A lot of guys might list tons of stats and trends, and yes they are very compelling at times. But the guy who hits because he has the right "feel" to the game knows all about the stats and trends but he also knows his teams on a personal sort of level is also very compelling. He anticipates and compares team strengths, weaknesses and performances in the moment. That matters far more than anything else. So see how accurate they are in their write-ups after all has been decided. Look for the crystal ball-like write-ups. There's no better way to judge how well a handicapper is doing. Of course their record helps too but a lot of guys go through periods of hot and cold so W/L records don't necessarily mean everything in a given week. The crystal ball writeup tells all.
This could be a sticky at the top of the page, nice work Conan.
