But you're wrong, in this case, human life is more important than the economy. The government is telling you that.

Wrong about what? I suggest the government's actions have the intention to save both human life, health, quality of life and the economy. (Unlike in your flawed car analogy where they continuously & perpetually are sacrificing human life for the economy.) Nobody knows which of those they think in their hearts of hearts is more important &, in any case, what is more important is irrelevant to the present discussion.

And I suggest the government's actions the last few weeks, by shutting down the economy, shows you they value the elderly life right now over the quality of the economy just as the speed on the interstate is more important than the lives lost due to accidents.

Another cockroach sighting. I'm actually surprised he's here posting without his master Mob.

Mob must have given him permission to be out tonight.

The governments' safety measures in this WWIII (humanity vs invisible bugs) resulting in a temporary economic decline are not merely for the purpose of sparing "elder life" in the short term, but for the saving of human lives in general, of all ages, both in the short & long term, as well as the health & quality of humanity, and also the saving of the economy in the long term game.

Without the present government guidelines, orders & such being followed, & "business as usual" how many would've become infected in the next year? 10, 20, 50% or more? (To say nothing of the loss of heath, associated loss of quality of life & death toll). How much worse would that be for the economy?

The governments, backed by science experts opinions, are gambling (taking a shot) that their present course of action is +EV, i.e. offers the best chance of success.

I'm pointing out that in normal day-to-day life, our government already finds some sort of death acceptable to keep things moving.

Death is inevitable no matter what mode of transportation government allows, whether it is cars, buses, trains, planes, skytrains, horses, chariots or walking. Shall we go back to before the invention of the wheel? Would the people let the government ban motor vehicles or reduce the speed limit to 10 miles an hour?

Look it’s not a great situation either way sick people vs economy going bad perhaps causing more harm than the virus itself.

I believe the shutdowns are purely because there is a lack of medical supplies to serve the many. The issue with this virus is that even healthy people may need ventilators to treat it. Once we have enough supplies to cover the large part of the population that will eventually get it then we let the healthy people under 60 back to the workplace so we can get the economy going and we can treat the virus like other viruses. Many will get it and then move on. For the over 60 and those with pre existing conditions, they will need to stay home longer until this is under control.

How do you figure when young people don't die from this virus. Has nothing to do with young people. It's all about the elderly and people with pre-existing conditions.

It's not saving the economy. It's crumbling it right before your eyes.

I don't at all but the success of our economy and the livelihood of the masses is the most important here.

I'm sorry but that's the truth Sal.

No, this why things are the way they are because we've accepted death as a part of doing business in America.

If America wanted to eliminate deaths of all window washers, we'd eliminate window washing. We don't do that because we accept the risk as part of doing business.

Predicting if goes just for 3 months major chains may go under

I gotta buddy that owns 12 restaurants and another few weeks of no , zero, zilch income will prob doom him or at best able to keep one

Down here, many restaurants are doing takeout only. The problem is that there is NO WAY i'm ordering from a nice restaurant and paying those prices "to go" as part of the bill goes from ambiance and service

I wonder what is the penalty for violating this order? jail time, fine or both?

Can result in a misdemeanor with up to $1,000 fine or six month’s imprisonment, although Gov Newsom said social pressure will likely be enough to encourage people not to gather in the middle of a public health crisis

if it's a restaurant you truly enjoy, you will try to support your local restaurant through tough times. if you think of them as a chain and disposable with regards to the quality of their meals, they will not be around when this is over.
