guys also take a look at Carlton's year, when he won 27 and the team won about 52.. i may be a little off on the numbers but they are close.

Interesting fact about Cy Young, his career spanned more than 22 seasons, he bridged the time from when the pitcher's box was 50' from home plate until the introduction of the present distance, 60' 6", when the ball thrown from a mound was introduced. Clearly throwing from 50 feet has to be asteriked (if any record ever was).

BTB , yes i know..I am just mentioning the oddity in St Louis back in the mid 80's

the doubles record; some players have been on pace at times, but always fade...I use to follow this stuff more than i do anymore...there was a player ( can't think of who at the moment) but he started on pace to have a shot at the doubles record a few years in a row, back in the mid 90's....

Also Ichiro could make run at the hits mark 257 , if not this year maybe next...

A record that may never be broken: Steve Carlton's 1972 season.

Steve Carlton wins 45.8 percent of the Phils’ 59 wins in 1972. He went 27-10 for a Phillies club that won only 59 games. He led the league in wins, ERA (1.97), strikeouts (310, only the second lefthander ever to reach 300), and complete games, and enjoyed a 15-game winning streak. Of course, he won his first Cy Young Award.

wil.

Bob Gibson 1.12 ERA for a starter....1968 , somehow Gibson lost 9 games that year!

He completed 28 of 34 starts. He was pinch hit for in the 6 he didn't finish, which means his manager never had to come to the mound to take the ball from him ALL YEAR!!

This is not even close?

Three perfect games in a row are about a billion to one.

the others maybe million to one.

Check out the 1945 season the Chicago White Sox hit 22 homers for the year - Vern Stephens led the league with 24

Jack Chesbro's record of 41 wins in a season will never be broken for the simple reason that pitchers don't even START 41 games per year. All the other records mentioned at least have a possibility of being broken, including my #2 on this list - Cy Young's record of 313 losses.

These will not be broken

1. Hack Wilsons 190 RBI's in 1930

2. Owen "Chief" Wilson's 36 triples in 1912

Here's another one that will be tough to beat. In 1906, the Cubs went 116-36 for a .763 winning percentage. With the current 162 game schedule, a team would have to go at least 124-38 to top the Cubs' percentage. Despite their dominance, the Cubs lost to the White Sox in the 1906 World Series -- the only time the two Chicago teams have met.

Here's an interesting summary of the Cubs' season:

right nj sports, vandmeer had back to back no hitters and it would take 3 in a row to break it.. back to back again, would only tie it..

bonds is on pace to break gehrig's record of fewest strikeouts, while hitting 40 or more homers in a season.. the record is 41, i think..
