why is it that mlb allows the constant delays, stoppages, which make the game so boring?
seems like they could stop batters [pedroia for example] from adjusted their velcro multiple time before every pitch

:chest:

its always about the money.
the people who matter, the owners, could care less what the fans think, its revenue they want.
the longer the game the more $ the networks can pay.
the regional sports networks need programing to fill their schedule, unlike the national networks. MLB with 162 games is the ultimate filler. every extra second ultimately make the teams more cash. that is why they allow the delays.

Baseball is dying couldnt be further from the truth. see post #34 MLB revenue is up, record levels and its cause of these regional sports network contracts the owners are getting

"The series attendance against the Mets was 150,819, which marked the largest attendance in four-game history at PNC Park."

^ This past weekend was a nice baseball weekend in Pittsburgh. There were a visible amount of Mets fans around for the 4 game series and the Phillies are coming to PNC Park this weekend so perhaps it will be the same.

Baseball is a regional sport, I don't think you can say it is dying.

the fact that its become a regional sport is an argument for the fact it's dying IMO

I know I am in the minority but baseball is my favorite sport and it's not even close. It's a beautiful game and nothing else really compares.

The regular season of the NFL and College Football is just better than other sports because there are fewer games so they actually mean things....

Does someone really watch 162 baseball games of their favorite team? or 82 basketball teams of their favorite NBA team? If so, I hope they getting paid in some fashion.

Baseball is great for a month with the opening day thing as it signifies that winter is going away so everybody is all happy and fired up....Then its just like a boxscore after that (oh, they did that, oh, he did that) until the All-Star Game then Trade Deadline......Same thing with the NBA, all you need to do is see the highlights every now and then it is pretty much irrelevant until April (after March Madness finishes up then the NBA starts the playoffs)...And I actually like opening college hoops more than opening NBA as they have the Pre-Season Tournaments and that 24 Hour Marathon of Games thing they started which I thought was a great idea and while I like the NBA Playoffs I still like March Madness a lot more with conference tournaments and NCAA Tournament as they also play a lot fewer regular season games per team as well.

Basically, when you play as many games as baseball, NBA, and NHL play in the regular season it becomes a more watered down regular season which it is...So obviously the playoffs in these sports are a lot better as they are the opposite of the normal product spewed out.

I sincerely hope they do not make any changes to the great game of baseball to make it more interesting for imbeciles with short attention spans. As far as I am concerned liking baseball is pretty much a very good indicator of whether someone is decent person or not.

This also supports why the World Cup is huge.......It is played once every 4 years which makes it the playoffs of playoffs where each game is magnified even more..

dying out meaning being replaced with hispanics and asians and blacks. the white birth rate is minute compared to those other groups i mentioned. of course whites wont go extinct, but they will continue to be a smaller and smaller part of the population, which means traditionally white sports like mlb and nhl will continue to languish, while the nba and nfl continue to grow. its common sense, its called reading demographics, and that is not racist, regardless of what the forum pc police think, that is simple statistics.

gtc, my friend, you do realize that Americans, Canadians, Russians, Germans, English, British, Australians, Irish, Swedish, Dutch, French, Swiss, and all others I've left out are 'white' race, don't you? And certainly aren't ever going to diminish worldwide.

No race will ever die out...

Disagree here. Baseball is becoming a localized sport, not a regional sport. With the advent of cable TV packages for each team, baseball fans can watch their favorite team every single night. I know I watch the Tigers five times a week. So, when the national game of the week comes on ESPN on Sunday night, I've already watched 5 games that week, and have no interest in the national telecast.

I would bet that if you add up the ratings for all games for one week of baseball, they would be more total viewers of the sport than ever.

Baseball is a great game...especially for young kids.

Personally, I hate baseball, just don't like to watch it. But, for a gaming man...damn good opportunities to make some cash. Wish I liked the game but because the season is so long, a player can right any early wrong money plays. Baseball suckers who lose on a regular schedule play the big favorites....ain't going to happen horseshoes...ain't going to happen.

The professionals I know in baseball who score each year play low side odds and then try to win with TOTALS. Low juice with totals and the only way to really win in baseball. My story and I'm sticking to it.

Bet I beat you hotshots this season........$100 per bet.

So you are not a decent person unless you like baseball.
I have been on this forum since 2004 and that might be the dumbest comment I have ever heard at this place and I like baseball.

I like baseball.......That doesn't mean I have to like it 162 games and watch every pitch of a Braves game......I don't even do that when I see them live in Atlanta, but yeah I follow them and keep up with them as it doesn't take long to hear a score or check-in on a baseball game for minutes since it moves slower as you can turn your attention away and you might miss a foul ball or the predictable ball thrown outside the strike zone in general by the pitcher on a 0-2 count trying to get a batter to swing outside the zone.
Obviously, you get more intensity in the later innings when it is closer and if more is on the line in the game such as pennant chases and playoffs, etc.

162 games. The star, the pitcher can't even complete a full game. Can you imagine pulling Manning out after three quarters? Well, he got us the lead guys. Let's have someone else take the snaps for the final quarter. Or, let's pull Lebron out after the end of the third quarter.

Baseball is too god damned slow. Friend gave me great seats for Mariners Red Sox game. Fuck if I didn't leave after five innings. I just couldn't stand it anymore.

Make the season 75 games and move on with things. It takes 162 games and then playoffs to determine who is the greatest? Really?
