BK is worthless. As the owner of a collection agency you can, for the most part, get out of paying most your bills pretty easily.

PM if you want any direct questions answered. I don't want to give out our dirtly little secrets but there's no reason to file for bkty.

Probably too late now. But become a corporation. I thought Circuit City filed for bankruptcy. Seems like business as usual at their store in this area!

Otherswise, I would try to find some plan to pay creditors without a government bankruptcy. ONLY the RICH can do that--calling themselves corporations.

My brother filed 5 yrs ago. He got to keep his house and 2 Vehicles, he filed on all CC and secured and un-secured debt he had, attorney fee was $1000.

He told me it was the most humiliating thing he has ever had to do in his life but with the divorce he had no other choice.

But they will let you keep your vehicle you still have to get back and forth to work if you want to eat, and you can keep property you have mortgaged as long as you agree to continue to pay mortgage payments and car/truck payments as well.

Property and Vehicles that you already own dont create more borrowed debt.

CreditCards and un-secured loans are an in-less disaster for anyone.

I too did it about 12 years ago. Ditto. Best thing ever. Absolutely zero repercussions for me. My advice would be to buy a whole bunch of crap about 6 months before, get those credit cards even higher, then do it.

It's total assholes like this that are taking our country down.

You're basically advising him to screw other people over, even more
than what you are doing already.

Someone has to pay for that crap, and someone pays when
degenerates file for bankruptcy.

Bunch of friggen ass-clowns.

My aunt out in Washington filed like 7 years ago.

Paid like 1500 for an attorney.
Credit score instantly drops 200 points.
Good if you want to start over. She filed 11, business failed.
Stays on your record for 10 years.
Don't expect to get a house or credit card for at least 2 years.

um, no. You can get credit cards in a month after filing.

Unless you have lost a job or have medical bills that will never be paid, BK is not the answer. It isn't there so when you are "young" or irresponsible you get a free ticket. Work like the rest of us and pay your shit. You spent it, so pay it. Any asshole that says it was the best thing, is a fuckin joke!! You'll never learn and I bet you are the asses that bitch about work, the economy, and everything else. Get a life and most inmportantly...Grow the fuck up!

I didn't mean to start a shit storm. I just got two calls today from aquaintences who are starting the process. Just wanted some insight becuase I have zero knowledge on the subject and people call me for advise. I have been doing negotiations with the banks for short sells on homes in foreclosure. So they thought I might know something.

I asked here cause there is a lot of knowledge on this board and most shoot it straight.

Thanks for the replies.

It's tougher than it used to be. The Republicans gutted the bankruptcy statutes early in Dubya's 1st term.

You will have to pay on those credit cards for up to 5 years because they probably be able to force you into a chapter 13.

Lawyer and filing fees are higher also.

Say thank you Dubya.

funny how you say this while the government keeps bailing company after company out. it's funny how you are cool with that and then get on people who file.

Nothing really. Student loan debt can't be erased in a bankruptcty. Best bet is to talk with your financier and lengthen out the loan to get your payments lower. whats your debt to income ratio?

Don't file. Aside from the reasons Festering Zit and others have said (I agree with FZ by the way).

If you plan to every obtain an professional license or work in any financial sector, you are fucked.

Most people just don't want to work, save and cut expenses.

Save up your money and negotiate a settlement with creditors. You can only do this once you have the money in hand and are ready to pay a settlement amount at the time.

Question regarding student loans.I havent made a payment on my student loan in 10 years. I have been living offshore the whole time. I checked recently and i noticed it went from 8k to 44k. Does anyone know if I could call them up and pay off the inital loan and not all the interest that has accumulated on top of it. $36k in interest is insane.
