Pattaya Beach is a zoo for the next 5 days...thousands of residents from Bangkok are coming here to get away from the floods and all markets have been hit hard for rice, chicken, and water...bare shelves in the aisles are the norm...traffic is really bad also..

Nah... My initial allure was looking for cheap early-retirement places, and possible vacation spots. I was also intrigued to learn about the benefits of finding a Thai woman, in case God-forbid something happened to my wife.

But after reading all of Stickman Bangkok's columns for the past couple years, I think I have a more realistic view of life in Thailand, and relationships w/ Thai women.

I think I may head there for a vacation some time. The pictures are beautiful. I do love Thai food. I stopped considering early-retirement there, because of all the negatives mentioned in Stickman's columns. VD seems to love it there, I'm glad it works for him.

I wouldn't base any decisions solely on what Stickman says.

The girl I went to Hua Hin with has a college friend there and is married to a Dutch guy. I spoke with him extensively about being a Westerner and living in Thailand. He says he loves it there and never wants to leave.

Between her and Patty, they know of 9 marriages between farang men and Thai girls, and all are happy to the best of their knowledge. And several of them were bar girls.

The flooding in Thailand is severe.

My company's factory is in Thailand. It is underwater (6 feet of water right now) and production is stopped for at least 3 months (possibly quite longer). You can imagine that this is quite a problem for our business and I'm quite sorry for the Thai people.

This will cost our small business hundreds of thousands of dollars because we have to build new production tools and change the factory location as there is no way we can wait 3 months. Orders are piling up.
