Well, you are a newbie to Thailand. What would you expect your travel
agent to say? I've lived in the country more often than not over the
past 4 years. I've spent many hours on forums full of farang vets who
concur with my comments. But feel free to take your chances of not
having your passport checked, which would put you in a Thai prison.
What are the odds...you used the example of the Cubs winning the
series?...they are 33/1 at bet365.

The travel agent told me that even if my passport was checked, they wouldn't take me to jail, they would just tell me to get my fine handled and get a new visa.

And if all else failed what about just bribing them? They will do anything for some BAHT, as you have yourself stated.

I have to go now but I can answer the weather question real quick and either me or my new friend Dinosaur Viejo will be happy to answer the other two Im sure.

The weather is hot and humid. Extremely humid and tropical. Thai people like to say they have 3 seasons... hot, hotter, and hottest, and they arent kidding. I was talking to a Thai guy on the plane and he told me "I better take my sweatshirt off", as I was unprepared for the crazy heat even though I arrived in the middle of the night.

Shorts and a T-shirt will do you well enough at anytime of the year here.

Chang Mai in the north is a beautiful city full of hot ladies. But it can
get quite cold there. Even Thai people would dress with more clothes
than that up there.

"If you plan to visit during the cold season, especially around Christmas and New Year when it gets coldest, be sure to bring warm clothes which means a pullover and a jacket. In Chiang Rai and Mae Hong Son it will be even chillier. Going on a mountain trek during this time can be a very freezing business so bring an adequate down sleeping bag from home, since you'll hardly find a good one in Thailand."

It must have been someone else. I didn't state that. If that would
work then why is everyone here and in the links i posted saying
to get this thing straightened out? Before the police pull you over
and take you away. But feel free to believe your coke using friend.

Travel agent? I didn't get the sense that my own travel agent knows
much of anything about the laws and ways of the country. It is not
their area of expertise. In any case, i already posted links on this
subject, so you can believe them or your TA. As they say in Thailand,
"Up to you". You have been warned.

As for bribery, i've heard of cases where people are charged for trying
to do that in LOS.

"My coke using friend" is the one urging me get this handled actually... and just to set the record straight the guy does coke maybe once a year at most and is a self made millionaire and one of the smartest guys I've ever known.

If he's so smart, why not listen to him? Who's feeding you the
misinformation, besides your TA?

What misinformation? I trust my instincts and from what I've seen here the only cops I have encountered tip their hats to me as they walk by. Do you honestly think a cop is going to ask to see my passport for no reason? Cmon dude, are you freakin kidding me? Why would they do that?

I don't plan on breaking any laws. Im having a hard time understanding why this is such a difficult concept for people to grasp. In this country if you don't mess with the police they won't mess with you.

Like you will surely be successful trying to bribe your way out
of going to jail if LE happens to check your passport.

Been to a few bars and havent seen any cops. Heres a couple questions.

Have you ever seen a cop ask someone to see their passport?

And if a cop did ask to see my passport... what if I simply said I don't have it with me right now and apologized?

Or better yet what if you told them you lost your passport or it was stolen and the U.S. embassy was working on issuing you a replacement? After all it does take a while.

You might want to read up on cops raiding bars in S*iam and forcing
everyone to give them a urine sample.

I'd also suggest becoming a hermit till the day you leave. Going out
before then will only increase your chances of seeing the Bangkok
Hilton from the inside. And i don't mean the hotel.
