DEAC or anyone else traveling from Bangkok to Pattaya, take the bus not a taxi. I would never have thought this until last trip. I always took a taxi and considered the price of about $60 more than fair given the distance of about 2 hours.

However, this last trip I tried the new bus service and it is both very comfortable and so cheap it is ridiculous. The price of a lady drink! Airport to Pattaya, or vice versa, is 124 baht. Directly to or from the new airport and drops you off in Jomtien, across the street from Pan Pan restaurant in the Food Mart parking lot. A/C and comfortable seats. I had 2 big bags and no problem or charge for those.

If coming to or from Bangkok itself, not the airport, it is a different bus and drop off point in Pattaya. That station is on Pattaya Nua, otherwise known as North road, a little west of Sukimvit. From there you can catch a baht bus which takes Pattaya Nua to Beach road south. Get off whever you want. The bus is 124 baht and the baht bus is another 20 baht.

First timers may be better off in a taxi and the last bus runs at 8 pm or so but Thailand regular visitors can take advantage iof these buses. By the way, taxis are now 2500 baht each way, or around $80 now from the airport to Pattaya where they know most people are in a hurry and afraid to get lost on some bus. Pattaya to the airport runs half of that, around 1200.

Hey Viejo....

How much money do you need to come out there for like 3 months?

that would be hard to say unless he knows specifics like what kinda style you wanna roll in and how many hookers err, girls who want to support their families you wanna frequent.

Good advice. Thanks for the heads up.

On the question of renting versus staying in a hotel, it depends how long you plan to stay. Condos, fully furnished, go for around 15,000 baht a month, about $500 with the baht at 30 per dollar. However, they often want a minimum stay of 3 or 6 months and at least a month's deposit. One month stays would go for around 18,000-20,000.

Two hotels I suggest are Tigglebitties and Rita Resort. The former is very clean, owned by an American and his Thai wife, both of whom lived in L.A. until a few years ago. Really nice people, plus a great bar and restaurant downstairs. Monthly rentals around 14,000.

Rita Resort is more upscale, has a pool, is on the main baht bus line, and the rooms are bigger and more elegant. Greek columns out front. They get around 27,000 a month. Depends on the season.

Viejo knows both well. He can give you more info. Plus in hotels you have free daily maid service while in a condo you must arrange that. Pros and cons to both but those are the prices.

A good supply of clean towels is a necessity in LOS. In the Phillipines you can leave
the can after doing everything and your lady will go to town on you, but in LOS she'll insist you shower & smell good {HOM} first. A lot of the working girls won't even consider going with guys of certain races due to their rep for being stinky, rude and cheap.

The hotel also offers as much free drinkable bottled water as desired, which is another necessity unless you wish to brush your teeth with Heineken. You don't want to drink the tap water in this cuntry. I get a bit of the runs, anyway, at times,
while sticking strictly to what my body is used to, such as steaks, spaghetti, burgers, various sandwiches, etc

A lot of places give you free breakfast with your stay....

When Seymour came to visit, he told me to get an upscale place with modern furniture...I got him a room at the local upscale Holiday Inn for 150 bucks a night...that's almost the top of the line...overlooked the beach and had a great view of the whole city...he can tell you more...

For 50-60 bucks a night, you can get a very nice room in Pattaya with air and other stuff like pools and gym....very clean and close to all the action...

117-39 Phaya Thai Road
Ratchathewi Bangkok 10400

Right now we care about the location, my gf wants to go shopping and all that. Also is it convenient to take the train station from here?

Its not a bad location- off the main strip( sukhunvit) but on the map right next to the bts station- you can be at the main shopping area in 5-10 minutes--- PM me and i will give you my number if you have any questions while you are here-

Bruce....plenty of black Thai girls here...as you know!

Brother Viejo, you know my heart is in the Land of Smiles. Hell, my girlfriend here is Thai. But I feel I need to visit Europe next. The gods are meeting to decide my financial situation as we speak. Once that has been determined I may just make an around-the-world trip a year from now.

I'll try to meet sharky99 on the Asia leg.

LOL but those 800,000 prostitutes don't?

I suppose it was not the incident so much as the fact it was {1} during Songkran
and especially because it was {2} videotaped & seen by many on the internet.
IOW the authorities may be less concerned about what happens behind closed
doors than what is a huge public event.

Prostitution is a tolerated Thai institution, but even kissing in public is frowned upon.

BTW lately the BIB have been making multiple nightly raids on the NEP area SWs.
They have been hit up before for years for the 1000 Baht fine, if they can't outrun
the officers, but not at this frequency.

What is SWs?

Perhaps I was reading outdated material, but before I went to Bangkok I was under the impression that the Go-Go girls always danced clothed per the law. I was quite (pleasantly) surprised that 90% of the clubs I went into the girls were topless and left nothing to the imagination in the lower areas. Perhaps the raids are an effort to rope in the nudity. I wonder why they aren't nailing Cowboy every night as well?

I just downloaded a book to my kindle about Thailand, and if there could be anything more opposite of the way this thread describes the attitudes of the women, this book would be it.

Basically it makes the women out to be AIDS infested money grubbing sluts.

This book was written by someone who goes there all the time.
One of the worst written books I have ever read. No check that. It was THE worst written book I have ever read.
English cannot possibly be his 1st language.
