Viejo, I just got back from 9 Days in Cuba. Sey wasn't able to make this trip. When I got back and Sey asked about it; first question he had, "Ok, was it better than Thailand...?"

Cuba: Strange, Interesting, Full of beautiful women, Truly a unique experience especially for an American.

Better than Thailand? No. Not even close.

Viejo, keep living the dream, drive em straight and we will see you sooner rather than later.

Fig,

How do you get around the "issues" for Americans travelling to Cuba? Fly to Mexico first?

And what do the Cuban citizens think about Americans?

All right VD. You're such a tease. What was it that you will never, ever forget.

There were six of us including Jedge Wapner...we hired a 5 man band to play music for us and before we knew it we had the whole beach at our party including many beautiful women...just a great day and the police on the beach just watched and didn't bother us...there was a rule at the time that Cuban women couldn't mingle with US vacationers on the beach...didn't stop Wapner from having a great time, LOL

Thanks VD. I always enjoy hearing stories about when you two get together. I plan to visit Cuba and the Domincan Republic some day. I'll PM you before I decide to go.

It's looking like I won't be visiting you in Thailand any time soon. I just got a permanent job. One never knows though.

DEC;

They are very very interested in talking with you. They see very few Americans relative to the Canadians, Europeans, and Russians. Once they figure out you are American, and god-forbid from Miami like me, they act like they are related to you!

The girls all want to meet you and talk to you. VD is right that it is pretty much prohibited to walk down the street with Cuban girls, etc. You can meet and hang out in the bars/restaurants but outside its a cat and mouse game with the policia. It takes some getting used to; at times it was kinda fun at other times it was downright annoying.

I have to say that the Cuban people in general are on average the warmest and most friendliest group of people I have come across from all my travels. Time is what they have a lot of. Cell minutes are expensive so all their conversing and relating to one another is done in person face to face which is pretty cool in a way. There is no crime or even aggressive behavior at all from what I saw. They are as warm as the Italians and as cordial as the English. Simply has to be seen to be believed.

If you have the chance to go; go and go soon. Capitalism is taking a foothold slowly but surely.

Fester,

Yes, just as VD said, simply book a flight to Cancun, then Cancun to Havana. It takes some doing but I did a lot of research and once you have it all figured out its pretty simple. I booked through a Canadian travel agency call A Nash. Google them and ask for a Cuban specialist. They will book the flight for you from Cancun to Havana plus fedex you the Tourist visa which is $18.

Google travel forums and read up before you go. It is definitely not a mindless "lay on the beach all inclusive" type of trip but I hate those trips anyway. I prefer adventure and seeing unique things.

Havana and Cuba in general is one of the most mind-bending experiences I have ever had. Havana has old-city European charm and beauty and architecture complete with 50 years of total decay and neglect. It is one of the most un-American places I have been to and its 90 miles from my house in FL. The people are amazing as is the scenery. If you go, make the trip from Havana to Varadero Beach. It is their "Miami Beach". They claim its one of the most beautiful beaches in the Caribbean and no argument from me...

I mean it in the sense that if you want to see Havana and Cuba while it is still a relic of the communist machine; now is the time. Was not arguing for or against capitalism. On the contrary, the results of a failed communist/socialism dream are painfully obvious all over Cuba. Sad but interesting at the same time.

Fig...did you enjoy seeing all the old model cars?

I was also surprised on how late the night life started at their clubs...after 12AM seemed the time to visit the night clubs and the time all the women started to show up...Did you get to Hemmingways?
