The last of the great class act players; Malone , Hakeem, Clyde, MJ, Barkley, Robinson, they were the last leg of the old scholl NBA the Bird /Magic era.... these players cared about the game , now that they are all gone there's not enough left to carry it.

Certainly not players like Artest and Sprewell and even Kobe....

Ben should have gotten more. Set the example now and end most all of this. Ben acted in a violent manner. That should be reason enough for season and then you will not see this often at all.

I will give you that Rob, the league play and scoring was up early this season...we weren't seeing 64-58 games like we saw the past 3 years.

i agree with those who are saying the game is nowhere near where it was in the 70's and 80's .

i would rather watch an espn classic game of any 2 teams from that era than a game now.

case in point was the performance by a fully stocked orlando magic team last.

that game shouldnt have been close, yet a 5 man roster can stay with a full squad. the players act like they dont care, the coaches act like they dont care.

their only seems to be 2 players in the entire league that appear to give a **** every game , and those 2 are tim duncan and kevin garnett.

i do think the fans that were throwing things and dumping drinks on the players should be brought into the locker room and beaten to a pulp.

the nba society as a whole has a long way to go.

Artest got what he deserved the fella's an ******* and will always be one the NBA is better off without these kind of players. You got a few of these ******** in the NBA and the NFL who thinks just because they got a bit of talent for sports they can do whatever they want, maybe this will make them all smarten up a bit.

Anyone who doesnt think these suspensions and culpability is one sided, obviously did not watch the game....

Ben Wallace started the whole thing, he did not just object to the hard foul (which was not flagrant, just a hard foul....if you dont want to be fouled, don't pick up millions a year, and go to the hole with the ball), he went after Artest, looked like he wanted to choke him...Artest backed off like he was supposed to.....

The fans added to the mayhem, with the outrageous behavior they showed....

Agree going into the stands was wrong, and each of them should have been suspended for that.....However, to say that Wallace didnt deserve more, or the Pistons deserve more for the actions of their HOME COURT fans is ludicrous...

The Pistons are the BIG WINNER HERE, by the time the Pacers get any players back, they will be too far out of it to do any damage....Thus paving the road for the Pistons to return to the finals...

What a disgrace.......

Basically telling any fans anywhere else, if u think your team cant beat the other team, just soak them in beer, charge them on the court, and if they retaliate, they will be out for the year...Your team will win then....

Suspensions for the Pacers = somewhat fair, a little harsh

Suspensions for the Pistons = A COMPLETE JOKE..

Culpability of the Fans in detroit = Obviously in Detroit, this is accepted behavior.....

Norega-looks like I got you and newport mixed up. Newport got his threads moved for being racist. Sorry about that, though I'm not sure your comments are still that classy, and if CDL thinks I'm racist for what I said, well then I guess I am just a huge frickin racist. whatever

right on bucs...

i go back to 45 seconds to go in the game .

why are the stars still in the game when the pacers are up 15 ?

what the hell is wallace thinking lighting up artest like that ? i've been fouled harder by my 9 year old playing one on one. and its a girl.

all is calmed down , then wallace throws a towel toward artest laying on the table. i guess its now that the fans think its ok to throw things at the pacers.

those fans are just as responsible as anybody else for what happened.

their picture should be in paper and they should be found and have their asses handed to them.

Bucs,
You're right about the suspensions not being fair -- no way does Wallace deserve 6 games. He should get one or two at the most.

The thug Pacers went into the crowd and attacked fans -- Jackson and Artest should have BOTH gotten the one year suspensions mininum. Oneil's was fair IMO. I didn't see him in the crowd, and the fan shouldn't have been on the floor --- however, assualt is assualt and all of the guilty parties need to be dealt with legally too IMO.

Just because you like these guys doesn't make it unfair. There are a complete embarrassment to pro sports.

But I'm pretty sure you cant go around throwiing beer in cop's faces.

IS THE SUSPENSION PROTESTABLE. Maybe as spitting is very condonable in baseball and beating the crap out of a guy who charges an umpire while a guy runs at randy myers with a knife. If you watch the tape all artest did was go up in the stands. I DONT THINK HE DID MUCH AS HE WAS HELD BACK UP THERE AND MUCH MORE HAPPENNED ON THE COURT WITCH watching baseball's example anything is fine on the field of play. you go on the court your fair game.

IS THIS PROTESTABLE?????<!-- / message -->

It's time somthing needs to be done about fans who get out of control. First it's beer, then batteries, then fans who attack players and coaches. We have had all this in the past and it's only getting worse. How about the fans in Chicago who attacked that old guy coaching first base for K.C. (Gamboa). Was it Monica Seles(??) that got stabbed by some idiotic fan? Something permenant needs to be done so fans can no longer get involved. They are so supposed to be spectators not participants. I don't what the answer is whether it's some kind of plexiglass, fencing, or netting, but it's obvious something needs to be done to protect players and coaches. It's really getting out of hand these days and it won't be long before something serious happens. More serious then the melee that took place between Detroit and Indiana.

Those sticking up for Artest, sit back and read this about ten times over and over again.

GOOD POINT GENERAL!
What if one of those swings(punches) really connected? What if one died from this? It was very possible. There are kids and elders alike sitting there on any given day.

one thing about stern, he is a very strong commisioner, and if he feels the integrity of the game is being compromised, he will come down very hard.
it may seem harsh to some, but a standard has been set, and
everybody will benefit in the future. going into the stands
and punching fans now will be at least a 25-30 game suspension.

Could not have said it better myself, this is the NBA and mainstream black America in a microcosm.
