so arsenal

actually I didn't think they were that bad with the over passing today. MUCH better than last year, especially Hleb, who actually shot the ball a few times. However, typical Arsenal nonetheless.

Alves is pretty poor defensively, I mean, Dunga prefers Maicon to him b/c of his defense. However, I LOVE his game and he would be ideal for Chelsea (unfortunately).

Agreed with your view on Alves, he would be perfect for Chelsea. He would be coming from a team that has won alot of trophies the last couple of years and when Terry and Carvalho are playing together both will cover up for many of his mistakes. Alves and Ricardo Quaresma (if Robben leaves) would be great signings for Chelsea however I doubt they'll get both.

I hadn't even heard they were interested in Quaresma. They don't need him at all. Malouda takes Robben's place perfectly and Cole can fill in if absolutely needed. Alves can also play right side MF (which he did in Copa America to the tune of a caused OG and a goal in about 50 minutes) as cover for Cole when he moves to the left. Their MF is fine without Robben or Quaresma, although, that has never stopped Chelsea from spending.

They are but they won't get him since Porto is flushed with cash from selling Pepe to Mardid and Anderson to Man U. Quaresma isn't a right now signing since he'd take alittle while to adjust plus at 25 million pounds he isn't coming cheap but his celling is very high so it would be one of those keeping up with Man U signings.

From the Racing Post - a betting paper in the UK:

By Jeremy Chapman

BOOKMAKERS are bracing themselves for a plunge on the big three in the Premier League today, but Coral are looking to get against Arsenal, Manchester United and Chelsea when they begin their campaigns this afternoon.

For many, the idea of lumping on supposed home bankers Arsenal (1-3), United (1-4) and Chelsea (2-9) will be the easiest route to profit this term as they tackle little clubs Fulham, Reading and Birmingham respectively.

Coral are best about the big boys in a treble which is 1.04-1, but the Barking-based firm have pushed the boat out further by offering 11-10 for all three sides to return with maximum points in a move which is likely to attract plenty of cash.

However, Coral are hoping the strength in depth of the Premier League this season will mean the likes of United and Chelsea won't stroll to comfortable victories as was often the case in previous years.

Spokesman David Stevens said: “We will get off to the best possible start if United, Chelsea or Arsenal get turned over today. We can't remember a summer when so manyclubs have spent so much money and we are hoping that there will be more challengers to the big sides this season.”

The books are laughing tonight.

Completely agree. No need for Quaresma at all. Malouda looked fantastic today. He's already built a good link with Ashley Cole down the left hand side. Wright Phillips will have a great season aswell with the new formation and emphasis on width. Not to mention they've still got Joe Cole and Kalou capable of doing a great job out wide.

Alves would be a fantastic signing. Man Utd should go for him seeing as Neville is injured all the time and getting older.

SWP looked GREAT today, dude was everywhere and just creating all sorts of problems. ALthough, it was Birmingham and this was the first time 3 of the 4 defenders were on the pitch together at the same time. Malouda is so good, I wanted Arsenal to go for him so badly. Being they need a left sided MF and he is French I figured it was a no brainer yet they didn't even appear to make an effort.

Arsenal really need some wingers. Rosicky, Eboue, Hleb are not natural in that position. He would have been brilliant for them!
