I was 28 when I moved to Las Vegas and my first job was a beer truck driver for Bonanza Beverage..I hung around a place called the Bingo Palace which now is The Palace Station..I was a very small bettor, playing 25 cent craps and my biggest bet was maybe a 20 parlay at the sports book..but during these times, everyone was family and the casino personnel really cared about the players, large and small...My Mom, sister , and brother came to see my and we were dining inside the Palace Station at the Italian restaurant...the Casino Manager Bob Wheeler came to our table and introduced himself to my Mom and said that the dinner was on him..I felt ten feet tall after that and never forgot him..Bob Wheeler was just one of many Las Vegas people that made an impression on me when I was young...but that's the way it was back then, everyone in most casinos were your friend and did favors for you, no matter if you were a high roller or not...other guys like Jasper, Tony DeCaesar, Tony Alamo, Frankie Mastorana, Kieth Glantz, Bobby Bredice, Speedy Newman, Mugsy, Chuck Sharp,Joey Boston, Richie Saber, Donny Bader, Lee Pete,Bobby Baseball, and numerous other characters were always pleasant to everyone...All sportsbooks back then were customer friendly and not afraid to take a bet...every casino was like going into a Cheer's bar, everyone knew your name and all the celebrities had no problem betting horses with the locals, especially Shecky Greene and Pat Foster...just a few memories for me...

VD...did you mean Toby Deceasar? Or is it tony? He's my host at the Hilton

I ran into longtime LV runner WAYNE a few weeks back, he hangs at the Stratosphere now, hadn't seen him in nearly 17 years, we sat and shot the shit for a good hour............................if anyone remembers "KEVIN" from the old Little Caeser's days, he has moved to Hawaii, Kevin was a good dude, along with Montana Mel, we shared many heartbreaking defeats together, coupled with a a few good win's here and there.

This sounds like a place i would have loved!
What you would have loved would have been the buffet at the old DUNES on the 2nd level across the street from LITTLE CAESERS, for a couple years time it was THE buffet in this town, in my opinion............................man, what an era.

This forum needs a THANK YOU button. Fishhead and numerous others would have been thanked 100's of times just in this thread!

A TRULY classic thread....I'd like to spend a few weeks with some of you guys to hear the stories so I could write a book. You guys have a TON of history that REALLY needs to be passed on to a younger generation.

.........machines there padded my BR quite nicely.:103631605

The Frontier was also the very first hotel that I ever stayed at in Las Vegas, the rooms back then were very nice.

This was the first time of the many times that I witnessed the great SigFreid and Roy, poster Kyhawk received comp tickets to the show and we almost blew it off, we came out of the show in complete awe of what we had just seen and couldn't stop talking about how we almost blew the show off................to this day, that show that night was the best show I've ever experienced in Las Vegas considering all the circumstances, just unbelievably awesome.

The year was 1981

Fish and VD, the friend that made comments about Mayday's LC employees working for his marks, was Shep(whom largely did the same in running for the Lunatics). The one with the introduction to Martin, Lem, Herbie, at Celebrity Deli, was Earle the Pearl(father of singer Stacey Earle..not to be confused with Steve Earle's sister of same name and profession). The suntan lotion Franklins were via one of Tomatoes old partners. They all passed away years ago, taking so many funny stories and industry knowledge with them. Also use to laugh constantly when listening to Dickie Stevens, Artie B, Tomatoes, and Frankie 'The Monster' Masterana.

So glad that Scotty's memoirs eventually came to pass! I highly recommend his book for those that enjoy his posts.

I go to Vegas ever month, the british William Hill bought up Leroys and Luckys. I was at a bar and saw what looked like a ATM but it said William Hill, walked up to it and it was a new kiosk, same in the next bar. The brits are invading vegas. Guess I need to bone up on cricket.
