This new phone call request has been posted in your Action Buffet based on your answers to the Interest Survey.
You can find this phone call request by proceeding to
http://www.numbersusa.com/phones?ID= 9581
The 5-Year Amnesty plan is gaining steam and NOBODY is talking about it! In addition to making this phone call, please call district offices this week. If you can, we need you to also call Radio Shows and attend town hall meetings in your area.

During our current economic downturn, Congress should NOT add any more visas and greencards for any kind of foreign workers. However, that is exactly what Republican and Democratic leaders are proposing to do.

Please send this fax to your U.S. Representative and Senators and ask them to stand up to the Big Business Lobby and its efforts to depress wages and foist major new subsidies on taxpayers.

From Roy's Alert:

....[M]agazines, newspapers and airwaves are filled with op-eds, editorials and articles quoting the business leaders and lobbyists saying we must import more foreign workers!

Both the Democratic and Republican leadership of U.S. House and Senate are right now conspiring to bring legislation to the floor to greatly expand the pool of foreign labor in this country -- even as they talk about the need for taxpayers to provide more unemployment compensation for all the Americans who are losing their jobs.

This kind of insanity is nothing new.

And it will never slow down unless we as a Lobby of the People mobilize in massive fashion to put an end to it....

...Your NumbersUSA Capitol Hill Team has talked to a number of people who have been in high level Hill meetings where leaders of both Parties have expressed a desire during this time of economic turmoil to sneak through giant increases of H-1B visas for foreign tech workers, H-2B visas for foreign laborers, greencards for permanent foreign nurses and a five-year visa for 12-20 million illegal foreign workers and their dependents.

Friends, I know that all of this may seem too crazy to be true. But please believe me that that the worse our country's economic situation, the more your congressional leaders see a chance to give their corporate sponsors the huge foreign labor increases that the People's Lobby has been blocking the last several years.

Congressional leaders hope you will be so busy worrying about your own jobs that you won't notice them giving away millions more through immigration increases.

<<<<< JOB DESTRUCTION NEWSLETTER No. 1821 -- 2/18/2008 >>>>>

So just how hard is it for someone to come to the U.S. on an H-1B visa and
then stay here after the visa goes out of status? The correct answer is:
not difficult at all! It may be even easier than walking across our porous
border.

Speaking of our border, it seems that whenever there is talk about illegal
immigration, the center of the conversation is always on Mexico, or in rare
cases Canada. There are other ways of coming here illegally, like for
instance coming as a student, tourist, or H-1B from Asia and then
overstaying the visa.

H-1B visas typically last three years and can have an extension of an
additional three years. During that time period the visa holder must be
employed or the visa goes out of status. If the foreign worker stays until
the visa expires, or loses his job, he is required to voluntarily self
deport. Some decide not to stay here illegally instead of going back. Our
government has no way of knowing if the H-1B left the country because
nobody tracks where H-1Bs are once they enter the U.S. or whether they ever
leave. In a legal sense, these visa overstayers are just as illegal as the
aliens who sneak across our border.

Nobody knows how often H-1B visa holders overstay but there is an estimated
400,000 Indians here illegally, and there are plenty more that want to
come:

"America is a very attractive country; everybody who comes here
wants to stay," said Shah Peerally, a Silicon Valley immigration
lawyer. "I can tell you right now, there are nearly 1 billion
people in India, of which maybe 800 million want to come here."

Do you think the U.S. has enough people already? Our current population is
more than 300 million. Perhaps that immigration lawyer is exaggerating
about how many Indians want to come to the U.S., but if even if a fraction
of 800 million want to come, and we add all the others from countries like
China, we had better prepare for a very different type of nation -- one
that's crowded beyond our wildest imaginations.

Just to put this into perspective, a big deal was made of a Pew Hispanic
Center survey that said that four in 10 Mexicans would immigrate to the
United States if given the chance. Mexico's population is about 100 million
people so even if 40% of the Mexican population came here it would amount
to a paltry 40 million people. The entire population of Mexico could move
here and it would be a small fraction of the number from India that wants
to come here!

Next time you hear a politician say that "comprehensive immigration reform"
is the only way to solve our problems, just keep in mind that all of those
plans have guest worker visa programs that are far bigger and more
complicated than H-1B -- and they will welcome the teeming masses of people
from the entire world! All of our Presidential candidates including McCain,
Clinton, and Obama think that the solution to our immigration woes is to
hand out more guest worker visas. So far our guest worker visa programs
have only served to make illegal immigration worse, so just why would
anyone think making the programs bigger will solve any of our problems?

This short LTE commentary by Gene A. Nelson, Ph.D will hopefully be
published in the Christian Science Monitor. I provide it as additional
background. Brace yourself for the Mercury News article that follows
because it's a shocker.

<<<<< Commentary by Gene Nelson >>>>>

The visa overstayers (and their families) are "party crashers, IMO." While
the technical term is that they are "out of status," they are uninvited
guests. There are far too many of them. With up to 38 million illegal
aliens - See: http://tinyurl.com/239qul and up to 17 million as visa
overstayers. From INS, see: http://tinyurl.com/29cdnw and
http://tinyurl.com/yqtqav

We are getting close to the "tipping point" when too many in the middle
class have their "backs against the wall" economically. The three prior
waves of immigration (all promoted by the economic elite only for their
benefit) ended with bloody riots and forced repatriation. [Mark]
Krikorian's approach of consistent "attrition through enforcement" is far
more humane.

Illegal emigres defy the image
FASTEST GROWING SOURCE? IT'S INDIA
By Mike Swift
Mercury News
Article Launched: 02/18/2008 01:30:47 AM PST

The Bay Area has a piece of the nation's fastest growing group of illegal
immigrants. But don't assume you know who they are.

Turning stereotypes on their head, a recent federal analysis of
unauthorized immigration says the most rapidly growing source of illegal
immigration is India - the same country whose engineers and programmers
help power Google and other Silicon Valley companies, whose doctors heal
the Bay Area's sick, and whose entrepreneurs and venture capitalists have
become a force on both sides of the international date line.

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security estimates that there are 270,000
unauthorized Indian natives in the United States - a 125 percent jump since
2000, the largest percentage increase of any nation with more than 100,000
illegal immigrants in the United States.

The number of undocumented Indians is dwarfed by the estimated 6.6 million
illegal residents from Mexico, according to the estimates from homeland
security's Office of Immigration Statistics. Yet, considering the high
level of education of many Indians, immigration experts say the federal
report hints at a new phenomenon: a high-skilled undocumented workforce to
go along with the nation's sizable numbers of low-skilled illegal workers.

If trends continue, within three years India would trail only Mexico, El
Salvador and Guatemala as a source of illegal immigration. Another national
immigration expert, Jeffrey S. Passel of the Pew Hispanic Center, estimates
that the number of illegal Indians is even higher, at 400,000 people.
Virtually all entered the United States legally but violated the terms of
their visas, say experts who study the nation's much maligned immigration
system.

"How do you get in? You come across the border, or you arrive here with a
visa," said Lindsay Lowell, policy director for the Institute for the Study
of International Migration at Georgetown University. "Indians aren't going
to be walking across the border like Mexicans."

Indians are among the most affluent ethnic groups in the United States,
with a median household income that is 62 percent higher than the figure
for all U.S. households.

Santa Clara County has the largest Indian-born population, and Alameda
County ranks fifth, among the nation's 3,141 counties, according to 2006
census data. But there is no way to know what share of Bay Area Indian
immigrants are illegal.

The Census Bureau does not ask people about their immigration status, and
the Office of Immigration Statistics report did not provide state or local
estimates. Of the 2.5 million people of Indian ancestry living in the
United States, about 1 million are not U.S. citizens.

Federal officials calculated the number of illegal immigrants by using
census estimates of the total number of immigrants from individual
countries, compiling the total number of legal immigrants using federal
immigration and naturalization records, and then subtracting the number of
legal residents from the total immigrant population to determine the number
of undocumented people.

It is certainly a minority of the local Indian community, however, and
probably a very small one. Half the people of Indian ancestry living in
Santa Clara County are already U.S. citizens, either by birth or
naturalization, according to census data. Thousands of others are legal
permanent residents, or they are here legally on student, tourist or work
visas.

Asked about the number of illegal Indians in Silicon Valley, Banjit Singh,
an Indian-born taxi driver waiting for a fare at Mineta San Jose
International Airport, said, "Here, there is a little bit. But you go to
another city or state, like L.A. or New York, there are many illegal
people." Drivers need to show proof of citizenship or legal immigration
status to get a taxi certificate.

But that doesn't mean the local number is insignificant. Local immigration
lawyers say that particularly among Indians, the ups and downs of Silicon
Valley's economy since 2001 are one reason why Indians have fallen out of
legal status.

"Most are bachelors; the way they get here is they have a job," Gabriel
Jack, a San Jose immigration lawyer, said of many of his Indian clients.

"They come here as professionals, most often in the H-1B program, and given
the fluctuations of Silicon Valley, the business climate, these guys lose
their jobs. They get laid off or they wager their hands on a start-up
coming in," Jack said. "The problem with the H-1B program is, you can't
have any significant time between jobs" without falling out of legal
status.

Indians made up 44 percent of H-1B applicants in the 2005-06 fiscal year,
five times the number from second-place China, according to federal data.

Because an immigrant's status can be dependent on the status of a spouse,
the break-up of a marriage can also create an illegal immigrant.

Among Indians in the United States, "there has been a rapid increase in the
divorce rate. If they are on an H-1, maybe the wife is protected and maybe
she isn't," said Navneet Chugh, an immigration lawyer whose firm is based
in Silicon Valley and Los Angeles. "The guy is an engineer at HP or Cisco,
and he goes home on vacation, and his parents say, 'We have a girl for
you.' And they get married, and they come here and have all kinds of
problems."

Another source is relatives from India who arrive for a visit on a tourist
visa and never go home.

"America is a very attractive country; everybody who comes here wants to
stay," said Shah Peerally, a Silicon Valley immigration lawyer. "I can tell
you right now, there are nearly 1 billion people in India, of which maybe
800 million want to come here."

The United States has deported slightly less than 500 Indians a year in
recent years. In the wake of the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks, "we have
substantially expanded our effort to find visa violators," said Virginia
Kice, a spokeswoman for U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. The
government, she said, pursues cases based on public safety, rather than
focusing on a specific country of origin.

Silicon Valley companies such as Google say they need to recruit the
world's best talent to compete - and about one in 12 of Google's U.S.
employees, roughly 900 people, are H-1B visa holders. "We have not seen
major problems with prospective candidates being out of status," said Adam
Kovacevich, a Google spokesman.

But immigration lawyers like Jack say there is such a backlog of people
waiting for green cards - the wait is up to seven years for skilled workers
from India as of this month - that an immigrant can still be waiting in
line when even a six-year H-1B visa expires.

That can result in an illegal, highly educated, Indian immigrant, they
said.

Unless Congress reforms the immigration system, "we are going to see this
high-skilled, illegal workforce emerging," said Frank D. Bean, director of
the Immigration Research Center at the University of California-Irvine.
"From a narrow economic point of view, it might work. From a social
justice, fairness point of view, it's a time bomb."

Organizer of green card-marriage scam involving hundreds gets 2 1/2 years in prison
<!-- BEGIN STORY BODY -->Thu Feb 21, 3:10 AM ET

<!-- end storyhdr -->NEW YORK - A woman has been sentenced to two-and-a-half years in prison for organizing a green card-marriage scam for hundreds of immigrants in New York City.

Beverly Mozer-Brown was sentenced yesterday for her role in the scam. Federal authorities say she accepted anywhere from $8,000 to $16,000 from people who needed green cards to stay in the U.S.
Authorities say she and her co-workers then prepared documents with fake information and paid American citizens to participate in the phony marriages. The scam netted more than 1 million dollars between 2001 and 2006.

Everyone,

--Following is the published letters report for the period Feb. 10-16

--As always, this memo is intended for participants in this program, plus a few friends, and not for wide distribution. Editors tend not to publish letters they suspect are part of an organized letter-writing campaign. So, please refrain from cc:ing us on your letters-to-the-editor and from talking about the program in public forums.

--And please remember to include the full name of the paper that ran your letter and the date.

-- NumbersUSA forwards these letters to you so you can share in the success of the program and see the published efforts of our writers. As a reminder, however, the letters are personal and do not necessarily represent NumbersUSA positions.

RECOMMENDED WRITING STYLE: We recognize that each of you has the ability to make your own decisions about how to write your letters. NumbersUSA's opinion is that letters are more likely to be published and more likely to help our cause of dramatic immigration reductions if they are written in a temperate, self-controlled way that avoids name-calling and arguments based on race, religion or national origin. A strong use of a few facts, voting records, concise analysis and sometimes humor seems the best way to advance our arguments. We encourage specific criticism of open-border politicians and others, but caution against "in your face" rhetoric. Firm but civil argument tends to get the best results. You, of course, are free to disagree. We applaud all published letters that advocate for our immigration-reduction goals, but we may not disseminate those that move outside the tone that we encourage, a tone that many newspapers include in their own letters to the editor guidelines.

--Thanks so much for your hard work and persistence.

Support SAVE bill to check status

The Catholic bishop's remarks last month recommending Utahns be hospitable to illegal aliens conveniently ignores uncomfortable facts. Joseph and Mary were temporary refugees fleeing a massacre; they returned home. They broke no Egyptian immigration laws 2,000 years ago.

America has laws. We admit more legal immigrants than all other nations combined. Illegal aliens break our law with their first act, lower wages for Americans, require $338 billion in social services and incarceration yearly. Mexicans alone send home more than $20 billion yearly, which is money denied to building our economy.

For Americans like Bishop Wester to shrug illegal aliens off as having merely neglected unimportant paperwork repeats the folly of prohibition-era Americans who frequented speakeasies and engendered mafia crime for further generations. When small crimes are punished, large crimes are prevented.

The SAVE bill, co-sponsored by Rep. Jim Matheson, will require employers to use E-Verify for all prospective employees. As citizens we must support restoring our national borders.

Bishop Wester and other "compassionate" Americans should contribute private resources to worthwhile international organizations.

A 'complex' issue

Harold Christensen's op-ed, "Complex issue of immigration requires a national solution" (Opinion, Feb. 3), requires a response.

Having been part of Ronald Reagan's 1986 amnesty, he should realize that the "National Comprehensive Immigration Reform" proposed last summer would only add to the problem and push the solution off into the future, just as the '86 amnesty did. Decisions like this, and a failure to make hard choices during the Reagan administration, are what made this issue even more "complex."

It is true that this is a national issue, but the United States is a federal republic, and since the United States has failed to protect the states they are forced to protect themselves and their taxpayers. Christensen calls the undocumented aliens "immigrants," as if sneaking across the border is no different than me moving to Colorado.

Failure to enforce our laws now will cause this issue to become even more "complex."

An invasion, not migration

A small article (Feb. 9) said Mexican President Felipe Calderon is coming to the United States on what can only be called a Spin Tour. He is quoted as saying he wants the next U.S. president to have "the ability to analyze the migration phenomenon more calmly and objectively . .."

First, what he calls a "migration" is an illegal invasion -- fully supported by the Mexican government. Second, the objective analysis he is calling for of the situation, shows the massive negative impact on everything from social services (fraudulently drained by illegal immigrants) to crime (the same issue of The Oregonian cites increases in drug traffic by Mexican gangs).

I can only hope that Calderon is treated with all due respect (which is not much) during his visit and told to focus on cleaning up his own corrupt government instead of meddling in ours.

Calderon's coercion

President of Mexico Felipe Calderon's demands that we can be just like Mexico with an uneducated, starving populace and where bribing politicians and police are expected ("Mexican president to address Legislature," Feb. 13, News). Calderon and his ilk should look in the mirror.

Mr. Calderon, people in this country are not "anti-Mexican or anti-immigrant." Our immigration laws are more generous and humane than yours. Our complaint is that you refuse to respect our laws and encourage your people to break the laws of another country. The United States is formed by limitless ethnic and national backgrounds as well as religions and even sexual preference. When Mexico takes serious strides in educating and seeing to the needs of its own people and becoming an honest government, we may change our views of Mexican politicians.

In the meanwhile, please do not come here and beg, coerce or intimidate our politicians.

Frederick sheriff lauded for stand

The comments made by Lord Nickens about Sheriff Chuck Jenkins are outrageous and unconscionable.

How dare he compare the efforts of a law enforcement officer to protect his citizens from wrongdoers to the illegal seizure of innocent Jewish citizens by a psychotic mass murderer. Sheriff Jenkins is the only law enforcement officer in the entire state with the courage and integrity to stand up for our country and its citizens, against lawbreakers and the special interest groups that support them. The comparison to Hitler is reprehensible.

Jill L. Gershen
Darnestown, Md.

Kudos to Frederick County Sheriff Chuck Jenkins and his efforts to stop and combat illegal immigration (Its not wrong to check immigrants status, Feb. 8 editorial).

Recently, 26 of his deputies began a four-week course of training in immigration laws, intercultural relations and the use of the Homeland Security database to identify whether those that are being arrested are illegal immigrants. The deputies will work under this program with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) investigators to determine the immigration status of persons they arrest.

This is a definite and positive move to curb illegal immigration that has plagued this state and deserves the full support of all law-abiding citizens.

I resent the unfair attacks that Sheriff Jenkins recently received from Lord Nickens, a civil rights activist and former president of the Frederick County Chapter of the NAACP, comparing the sheriffs efforts to curb illegal immigration in the county to Adolf Hitler and his regime in former Nazi Germany.

Sheriff Jenkins efforts should be applauded and supported.

5-year visa plan opposed

To the Editor:

I am truly disheartened to learn that members of the U.S. House of Representatives are floating yet another amnesty plan, this time in the form of a special five-year visa for illegal immigrants.

There is already a bipartisan effort to solve our illegal immigration crisis. The SAVE Act will punish employers who hire these illegal immigrants and also create incentives for illegal immigrants to leave the United States.

Now why would the House of Representatives leadership fight the SAVE Act with a plan to encourage illegal immigrants to stay?

Illegal immigrants who leave their jobs here and return to their home countries, voluntarily or otherwise, have been replaced by Americans, usually for better wages.

Giving visas to illegal immigrants will only encourage more illegal immigration and further deprive law-abiding Americans and legal immigrants of opportunities here.

Nothing whatsoever about the five-year amnesty proposal make any kind of sense.

Please oppose this plan and render your support to the SAVE Act.

</TD></TR><TR><TD class=faxpreviewsection>Dear Representative Myrick,
</TD></TR><TR><TD class=faxpreviewsection>We are thrilled with the new workplace enforcement initiatives Secretary Chertoff and Attorney General Mukasey announced. Please fully fund the enforcement.

The federal government may finally be getting serious about workplace enforcement. Increased penalties will cause employers to think twice about knowingly hiring illegal aliens, and the federal government can set a good example for the rest of the country by requiring all federal contractors to use the E-Verify system and following on cases of mis-matched Social Security numbers. Though long overdue, these simple measures will greatly diminish the job magnet that encourages illegal immigration.

Some illegal aliens walk across the border, others overstay their visas, but nearly all of them stay because some employer asks them to. Our illegal immigration problem is bred in the workplace and anyone who is serious about solving the problem will have to start with the employers.

Please fully fund these enforcement efforts to replace illegal workers with legal immigrants and American citizens, and oppose the alternative plan to reward illegal aliens with 5-year work visas.

Van driver who identified herself as Alainiss Morales, now identified by authorities as Olga Franco</TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE>
Federal Immigration and Customs Enforcement authorities have placed a hold on a woman who was driving a van that allegedly barreled through a stop sign and hit a school bus, killing four Minnesota school children.
The announcement came as Minnesota authorities confirmed the woman was identified as Olga Marina Franco, 24, from Guatemala. She first had given the name Alianiss Nunez Morales, and provided her age as 23, her home country Mexico.
The Lyon County attorney, Richard Maes, has charged the woman with four counts of criminal vehicular homicide, driving without a license and running a stop sign. But if and when those counts are resolved, she still faces custody, because of the paperwork filed by ICE to keep her behind bars, according to a report from Associated Press.
Federal officials confirm they have developed probable cause to believe she is an illegal alien, a status confirmed earlier by state officials.

Also today, the two brothers who died in the crash were honored at a funeral services. Jesse Javens, 13, and his brother Hunter, 9, were memorialized at a service at Lakeview School in Cottonwood, Minn.
A service for Emilee Olson, 9, was held one day earlier, and the funeral for 12-year-old Reed Stevens is scheduled Thursday.
Authorities reported 14 other children were injured when the van allegedly ran through a stop sign and struck the loaded bus, which rolled onto a truck.
The truck driver reported he watched the van go through the stop sign, according to the Minneapolis Star Tribune.
"I saw the maroon van run a stop sign, it blew over the railroad tracks and hit the bus, sending it sliding into me," said James Hancock. The 45-year-old man from Marshall talked to the newspaper from his hospital bed.
"The next thing I knew, they were hauling kids out and it was chaos."
KMSP-Television in Minneapolis also said Franco, under the Morales name, had pleaded guilty in a nearby county in 2006 to driving without a valid license.
It's just the latest in a long list of cases on which WND has reported involving illegal immigrants who have not only ignored U.S. immigration laws but state laws against drinking and driving as well, killing innocents on the highways in the process, including:
Raymoundo Rojas Garcia: This suspected illegal alien faces charges he left the scene of a fatal accident after the vehicle he was driving hit a motorcycle on a Mississippi road and killed two people. Authorities say he had been ordered to remain at the scene of the crash that killed Wayne Hughes, 45, and his wife, Michelle Hughes, 48, of Saucier, but Garcia quickly disappeared, and was located later on a nearby street. Garcia had been arrested only a week earlier on a drunken driving charge.

alejandro_rivera_gamboa.jpg

Alejandro Rivera Gamboa</TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE>
Alejandro Rivera Gamboa: This 24-year-old illegal was arrested in late 2006 for drunken driving, and his status as an illegal alien was made known at that time to Oregon police, who released him rather than turning him over to federal immigration officials. In August 2007, still free in Oregon, Gamboa was arrested for stepping on the throat of a 15-year-old girl, strangling her to death, as his cousin allegedly raped her.
<TABLE align=left><TBODY><TR><TD width=155>
Xuya-Sian2.jpg

Alejandro Xuya-Sian</TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE>
Alejandro Xuya-Sian: This 27-year-old drunken driver was sentenced in August 2007 to 3 1/2 to 10 years in prison for striking another man with his SUV in April and nearly dragging him to death before leaving him beside the road. The victim, who was too physically disfigured to attend the trial, became lodged in the front left wheelwell of the SUV, and had his skin shredded as Xuya-Sian drove three-quarters of a mile before realizing he was there. Xuya-Sian, said the prosecutor, "stopped the car, got out and undoubtedly dislodged him from the car," then kept driving, crashing into a tree about two miles away.
<TABLE align=right><TBODY><TR><TD width=129>

Alfredo Ramos</TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE>
Alfredo Ramos: A Mexican national in the U.S. illegally, Ramos was convicted of driving while intoxicated in 2006, but that didn't keep him from being behind the wheel after a night of drinking March 30, 2007 ? and now two teenage girls are dead because of it. According to police, Ramos, 22, slammed the 1998 Mitsubishi he was driving into the rear of a 1994 Plymouth driven by Allison Kunhardt, 17, in Virginia Beach, Va. Kunhardt and her best friend Tessa Tranchant, 16, were stopped at a traffic light when they were hit from behind. Although both wore seat belts, both died ? one at the scene and one after arriving at the hospital. Ramos, charged with manslaughter for the two deaths, was convicted in 2006 of public drunkenness in Virginia Beach and driving under the influence in Chesapeake. On Aug 17, 2007, Ramos pleaded guilty to two counts of aggravated involuntary manslaughter and faces up to 40 years in prison.

Carlos Prieto</TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE>
Carlos Prieto: Suspected illegal alien from Mexico was held in the Salt Lake County jail after running a red light and broadsiding a family of six, killing three, on Christmas Eve 2006. The charging documents say his blood-alcohol level was above the legal limit. The Ceran family, active in local theater and the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, were returning home after attending a performance of Dicken's "The Christmas Carol," which featured several family members, when their car was struck by a truck driven by Carlos Prieto. The crash killed Cheryl Ceran, 47, and two of her children, 15-year-old Ian and 7-year-old Julinna. Cheryl Ceran's husband, Gary Ceran, 45, and their 19-year-old daughter, Clarissa, and 12-year-old son, Caleb, were injured.

Eduardo Raul Morales-Soriano: When this illegal alien, working as a landscaper in Maryland, killed Marine Cpl. Brian Mathews, 21, and his date, Jennifer Bower, 24, on Thanksgiving night, 2006, it wasn't his first accident where alcohol was apparently involved. Nine months before, he was issued four citations and sent home with a friend after a single-car accident when he refused a Breathalyzer test. A policeman's error resulted in Morales-Soriano ? who took advantage of North Carolina's easy rules to obtain his driver's license in 2004 ? getting his license returned. On the night he killed the young couple, police say his blood alcohol level was measured at .32 ? four times the legal level in Maryland for intoxication. Mathews had served 8 months in Iraq and completed another tour of duty in the Pacific.

Guillermo Paniagua: This 29-year-old Mexican construction worker, living in the U.S. illegally, already had 4 DUI arrests when he slammed his pickup, head-on, into the car driven by Needville, Texas, Independent School District Chief of Police Ernie Mendoza on Jan. 19, 2007. Mendoza died instantly and Paniagua, suffering only cuts and bruises, fled the accident scene into the night. The police officer left behind a wife and four children. Paniagua now he faces first-degree felony murder charges, and failure to stop and render aid.

Gustavo Reyes Garcia: Fourteen previous arrests ? including four DUIs ? didn't keep illegal alien Gustavo Reyes Garcia off the road June 8, 2006, when he slammed his SUV into a sedan driven by Sean and Donna Wilson of Mt. Juliet, Tenn., killing them both. Garcia short-circuited the criminal trial for two counts of vehicular homicide while intoxicated and evading arrest by pleading guilty on April 9, 2007. "It was the case that brought to our attention ... the flaw in the system," Davidson County Sheriff Daron Hall said.

Hector Velazquez-Nava: This 24-year-old Mexican national living in Los Angeles reportedly had a 0.24 percent blood-alcohol level ? three times the state level to be considered drunk ? about the time he drove his SUV head on into a car driven by 'A Christmas Story' director Bob Clark, killing him and his 22-year-old son at the scene. Velazquez-Nava was arrested for investigation of driving under the influence of alcohol and vehicular manslaughter for the April 4, 2007, accident. According to reports, Velazquez-Nava didn't have any previous deportations but had been convicted in 2004 in Los Angeles of soliciting a prostitute, for which he received 24 months probation and a $1,500 fine after pleading no contest. Velazquez-Nava pleaded no contest on August 29, 2007 to charges related to killing the CLarks.
Isidro Pena Soto: Passing on one of Northern California's most deadly highways, Soto slammed head on into the pickup truck driven by Kent Boone, a 32-year-old pipe fitter on his way to work and father of five. Pena, who had been arrested or convicted at least nine times since 2003, has been charged with second-degree murder.

He escaped the attention of immigration officials by posting a $1,500 "non-arrest" bond and walking free. According to witnesses, Tenisha Williams, one of the victims, was still conscious, asking for help, as flames kept anyone from rescuing her from her car.

Joel Perea and Maurilio Herrera: Police took this death hard ? it was one of their own. Deputy Loren Lilly, who had been with the Cobb County Sheriff's Office for 18 years, was pronounced dead at the scene after his Honda Accord flipped several times after being struck by a Ford Taurus driven by Perea. "Obviously, being in law enforcement, none of us wants to roll up and see one of our fellow officers or deputies on the scene as well," said one cop. 27-year-old Perea and his passenger, Herrera, 23 fled the scene before being captured.

According to authorities, the illegal alien had already been sent back to Mexico 17 times and convicted of impaired driving at least a couple of times before the November 2005 crash.

Jose Trejo Encino: The 27-year-old illegal alien from Mexico admitted to deputies, at the scene of the November 2006 single car accident that killed one of his passengers and injured another, "to drinking a 12-pack of beer earlier in the night," but not before first trying to throw the cans of beer he still had in his car into the woods before police arrived.

Julio Villasana: Fourteen times before this 34-year-old illegal killed noted mandolin maker Charlie Derrington in a Aug. 1, 2006, wreck, he was deported to his home country of Mexico. Derrington, who reconstructed bluegrass legend Bill Monroe's prized instrument, was hit while driving his motorcycle by Villasana, who had been driving in the wrong direction under the influence of alcohol. In July 2007, Villasana was sentenced to 25 years in prison and must, by law, serve at least 30 percent of his time.

Luciano Melendres: If this illegal alien had been deported to Mexico following his 2006 arrest for driving drunk ? or even if a judge hadn't suspended his six-month jail sentence and given him 12 months probation ? Dacus Lamont Sims, 32, would be alive today. As it is, Melendres is back in jail for a second offense, this time charged with DWI, felony hit-and-run, driving with a license revoked, not having insurance and a registration violation. Sims, who was hit while crossing a Charlotte street, died at the scene. Melendres continued to a friend's home and was found because a driver who saw the accident followed his car and contacted police. Melendres, who has lived and worked in North Carolina for at least 13 months, denied involvement when questioned by officers.
Luis Oscar Garcia: Police said Garcia had a strong odor of alcohol on his person and that his pants were soaked with a liquid that indicated the presence of alcohol when he ran a red light and killed 18-year-old James F. Rogers Jr. of North Jackson, Tenn., in August 2006. The 24-year-old Mexican had been living in the U.S. without a green card for three years.
Manuel de Jesus Gonzalez-Geronimo: This 31-year-old Guatamalan fled on foot after the van he was driving went out of control and plowed into a road-construction crew in Montgomery County, Maryland, in August 2007, killing two and injuring three. He subsequently turned himself in to authorities.

Marcos Ramos Medina: The 35-year-old Mexican had twice been deported when, on Aug. 4, 2005, his car swerved several times across the center line, causing a tractor-trailer rig to jackknife in Yakima, Wash. His car then plowed head-on into the 2000 Lexus driven by Peggy Keller, 53, dean of distance education at Yakima Valley Community College, killing her at the scene. Medina, who was found to have at least eight aliases and falsely identified himself at his first court appearance, escaped serious injury. The case against the Mexican national was declared a mistrial in August 2006 because his constitutional right to remain silent had been violated. It took a second jury only 30 minutes to find Medina guilty three months later.
Miguel Garduno Gonzalez: The 43-year-old was accused of causing an accident near Lakeland, Fla., on Aug. 2, 2006, that left Haines City police officer Phoenix Braithwaite, 24, dead. Gonzalez was driving a van that while passing two trucks on U.S. 17-92 in Osceola County near the Polk County line hit the officer, who was on his way to work. Braithwaite, who was riding his motorcycle, was hit head-on and died at the scene. Gonzalez, an illegal immigrant, was not hurt and fled the scene. Two passengers in the van also were not hurt also are illegal immigrants. Gonzalez was being held without bail and the two others were held as material witnesses.

He hit an oncoming car driving at least 68 m.p.h., injuring the driver and killing two passengers, law student Audra Kaczur, 24, and computer programmer David Calogero, 31. Torres-Paredes, 30, pleaded guilty to second-degree manslaughter in May 2007 and was sentenced to the maximum five to 15 years in prison on August 1.

Winton died of complications from her injuries.
As WND has reported, the mayhem on America's highways isn't limited to illegals who drive only while intoxicated.
Little caution, critics say, is being exercised when it comes to preventing mayhem on America's highways as the country witnesses record high numbers of unlicensed, unregistered, uninsured drivers ? millions of whom are illegal aliens.
While no one ? in or out of government ? tracks traffic accidents caused by illegal aliens, the statistical and anecdotal evidence suggests many of last year's 42,636 road deaths involved illegal aliens.
A report by the AAA Foundation for Traffic Study found 20 percent of fatal accidents involve at least one driver who lacks a valid license. In California, another study showed that those who have never held a valid license are about five times more likely to be involved in a fatal road accident than licensed drivers.
Statistically, that makes them an even greater danger on the road than drivers whose licenses have been suspended or revoked ? and nearly as dangerous as drunk drivers. http://worldnetdaily.com/index.php?fa=PAGE.view&pageId=57365

The reports from our NumbersUSA Capitol Hill Team today were even worse.

Incredible as it may seem amidst talk of recessions, job cuts and stagnant wages, we are finding reports and signs everywhere that House Speaker Pelosi is negotiating to give millions of U.S. jobs to foreign workers.

Please go to your own customized Action Buffet corkboard and make sure that you have sent all the faxes and made all the phone calls available to you to stop Speaker Pelosi's vile maneuverings.

And thanks to all of you have already sent nearly 100,000 faxes into Congress just this week, demanding that Congress save the dwindling number of U.S. jobs for Americans and legal immigrants already here.

It appears that the irresponsible, outlaw minority of the corporate world that insists on illegal foreign labor has a special "in" with the Democratic Speaker.

Pelosi's backroom deals appear to be motivated by fear that a group of freshmen Democrats may get most Republicans to help them force a vote on the enforcement-only SAVE Act (Secure America with Verification Enforcement). That bill -- with 145 bi-partisan signers in the House and Senate -- primarily would drive millions of illegal aliens out of their jobs.

But Pelosi is trying to ensure that if the enforcement-only bill comes to a vote it will include huge increases in H-2B and H-1B visas for foreign workers of all kinds, and that it will include millions of legal work permits for all the illegal aliens currently holding a job.

I want every American to be aware of Speaker Pelosi's callous attitude toward the 23 million, less-educated working-age Americans who do not currently have a job.

This group of Americans without any college education and without a job increased by 2 million between 2000 and 2005 at the same time Congress was importing 1.5 million foreign workers of the same education level, according to research by the Center for Immigration Studies.

Nobody in Congress has a worse grade (F-minus) than Nancy Pelosi when it comes to protecting American jobs, American wages and American working conditions from the downward pressures of massive immigration.

As the head Democrat, she stands in stark contrast to most of the newly elected Democrats who are pledged to protecting American workers and fighting illegal immigration. Unfortunately, Pelosi, the most radical Member of Congress on the immigration issue, is using her power as Speaker of the House to try to wreak even more damage on the most vulnerable of American workers and legal immigrant workers in this country. I urge all concerned Americans to contact their Members of Congress and express opposition to Rep. Pelosi's outrageous push for more foreign work visas.

Our Action Buffet Team will be providing you new opportunities for action during Wednesday.

THANKS,

This new fax has been posted in your Action Buffet based on your answers to the Interest Survey.
You can find this fax by proceeding to
http://www.numbersusa.com/faxes?ID=9649
We need the GOP leadership's help to pass enforcement-only legislation and begin the push to reverse the tide of illegal immigration.

Send this fax to your GOP Representative and encourage them to pressure GOP leadership into supporting a vote on the SAVE Act (H.R. 4088). Warn them that they may not get another opportunity to pass enforcement-only legislation during the 110th Congress.

BACKGROUND

Your faxes and phone calls have (for the moment) scared Speaker Pelosi and the Democratic leadership away from their plan to undercut the SAVE Act with an amnesty, creating a small window where the SAVE Act can pass without any bad stuff attached.

More and more pro-enforcement Democrats are pushing for a "discharge petition," which will force a vote on the SAVE Act. If the Republican leadership gets behind the discharge petition, there will definitely be a vote and there is a good chance for passage!

But the GOP leaders appear to be holding back. This is no time to be on the sidelines. The SAVE Act enjoys massive support among Republicans in the House, yet it is up to GOP leadership to make or break this effort.

Keep the heat on... You snooze you lose

Your faxes & phone calls are slowing down the amnesty -- a real chance to REDUCE illegal

DEAR FRIENDS,

There is a little bit of good news today. All of you who have been faxing and phoning all week are really having an impact.

We are getting a lot of feedback that Democratic leaders in the House are getting discouraged by the huge outpouring of public disapproval of news that Speak Pelosi is considering a 5-year amnesty for most illegal aliens, plus huge increases in foreign worker visas.

Also, Rep. Heath Shuler (D-N.C.) is standing firm in the face of tremendous pressures from within his Party to make compromises.

We now have 48 House Democrats standing against Pelosi and her open-borders wing of the Democratic Party -- 48 Democrats signed on to Shuler's SAVE Act (H.R. 4088) that would have three layers of employment verification that would effectively drive most illegal aliens out of American jobs.

But at the moment of greatest opportunity, it is the REPUBLICAN leaders in the House who are holding things up.

If they would get behind a Discharge Petition (that would force a vote on H.R. 4088 on the House floor), there now appear enough Democrats to get the 218 required signatures. In other words, the minority Party could force a vote.

But the Republican House leaders are dragging their feet out of various petty political considerations and perhaps as a favor to the U.S. Chamber of Commerce.

Already 90 House Republicans have signed H.R. 4088, led by Rep. Brian Bilbray (R-Calif.), the chairman of the Congressional Immigration Reform Caucus.

Friends, this is not the time to let up. Rep. Shuler believes he has a chance to pass this great enforcement bill to truly reduce the illegal population in our communities.

That is why we have put on your Action Buffet corkboards some special actions, based on your own Member of Congress.

We have one set of actions for those of you with Democratic Representatives.

We have another set of actions for those of you in a state with one of the House Republican leaders.

And another if you have a Republican Representative who has signed the SAVE Act.

And there are other actions to take based on local and state issues, as well as other immigration issues.

Please go to your customized Action Buffet corkboard now and send faxes.

Then, make those phone calls Friday morning.

You are making a difference in a very difficult time on the Hill. The open borders forces thought they saw a big opportunity to spring a disaster on the nation while it was distracted by the Presidential Primaries. You proved them wrong.

Now, let's push the SAVE Act to a vote.

It is enforcement-only. It will immediately open up hundreds of thousands of jobs to American citizens and legal immigrants who already are here.

You know how wonderful have been the results of state laws passed in Oklahoma, Georgia and Arizona. The SAVE Act essentially does what those state laws do, except on a national level. in this email:

This graphic shows how well we are doing during February in meeting our minimum goal of having 1% of our fax users send in a contribution. We consider that the minimum necessary to maintain our operations.

Please help to make sure that we meet this 1% goal before the month ends on Friday.

February will be an exciting month as we will continue our attempt to make immigration reduction strategies a key issue among the leading Presidential candidates for each party. Your contributions are needed to help us maintain our various functions and duties. Thank you for making this a month in which you invest in America's future.
The colors on the map glow hotter as the donations heat up in a Congressional District (each of which has about the same population). To the left is a gage for our 1.00% goal. That goal is for 1.00% of all NumbersUSA faxers in a given month to make a donation to raise the minimum level of financial support to maintain NumbersUSA 's current tools and programs.
Thank you for making this a month in which you invest in America's better future.

Although we did not reach our 1.00% mark, we appreciate your contributions. We will continue to be the voice of your concerns in our on-going battles against mass amnesties for illegal aliens and mass immigration numbers. Thank you for your support and activism.
