Military Amnesty's Next Stop: House Floor
Dear Jim,
Thanks to your hard work, we successfully kept an amnesty from being attached to the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) as it was amended in the House Armed Services Committee yesterday.
As you know, California Republican Jeff Denham had been furiously lobbying to have his "ENLIST Act" (H.R. 2377) amnesty added to the annual defense spending bill during yesterday's Armed Services Committee hearing. If adopted, his bill would allow certain illegal aliens to not only join the U.S. military, but would require the Department of Homeland Security to grant them green cards and make them immediately eligible for citizenship upon enlistment.
However, Rep. Denham and the amnesty lobby lost to true immigration reform when late last night the top Democrat on the Committee offered and withdrew an amendment based on the ENLIST Act because he knew they did not have the support to attach it.
Though true immigration reformers won a huge victory, the fight is not yet over. Congressman Denham has vowed to get his legislation passed one way or another! He is expected to offer his amnesty bill as an amendment to the NDAA when it comes to the House floor for a vote later this month. Worse yet, he recently told reporters he wants his legislation to be voted on as a standalone bill (as opposed to an amendment to another bill) in May or early June.
With so many opportunities for Rep. Denham to slip his amnesty past the American people, we need your help now!
Tell your House Representative to oppose H.R. 2377 TODAY
and any similar efforts to grant amnesty to illegal aliens in exchange for joining the military
Call your Congressman and tell him/her that the ENLIST Act:

  • Is amnesty.
It not only requires DHS to give illegal aliens a green card upon enlistment, but because of current law, makes them immediately eligible for citizenship.

  • Will do nothing to solve our nation's illegal immigration problem.
To the contrary, it will only make it worse by sending the signal that all one has to do is make it into the country and he/she will eventually be rewarded with legal status.

  • Jeopardizes our national security and public safety by allowing those without valid identification and documentation to enlist in our Armed Services.

  • Is unnecessary.
There is no shortage of U.S. citizens and legal permanent residents willing to serve in the military. Each branch of the Armed Services has reached or exceeded 100 percent of their enlistment targets for fiscal years 2013 and 2014. Moreover, the Pentagon currently plans to shrink the Armed Forces over the next three years to pre-WWII levels. Consequently, passing the ENLIST Act would have the effect of denying Americans who want to serve the opportunity to do so.

CALLING UNEMPLOYED FACTORY WORKERS!

Wed, MAY 14th 2014 @5:08 pm EDT by Melanie Oubre

While speaking at an economic roundtable in Washington, D.C. yesterday, the CEO of the National Association of Manufacturers said he knows of 600,000 open jobs in the manufacturing field. He blamed
his inability to find workers on our immigration system.

CEO Jay Timmons claimed that passing a comprehensive amnesty/worker importation bill (S.744) is the only way manufacturing companies could find the skilled workers they need.
…You know…‘cause Americans don’t do those jobs?
May 2014
Manufacturing Job Fair Draws Packed House in Cleveland, Ohio
April, 2014
Thousands come to SUNYIT looking for one of 300 positions in Marcy, New York
April 2014
"I thought it was going to be a little easier since I had a job for so long and I have really great references,” he said. “Now I’m in such a rut I don’t know what to do.” Said one participant at a Canton, Ohio job fair after handing his resume to every employer- including manufacturing companies.
Not only are there millions of personal stories like these that directly counter Mr. Timmons' “labor shortage” narrative, the numbers don’t agree with him either:
In April of 2014, our U6 unemployment rate was at 12.3%. This is the real unemployment number that takes into account people who have quit looking for a job because they are too discouraged and people who are only working part time but would like a full time job.
Our labor participation rate, or amount of working aged people actually working, is the lowest its been…ever. There are over 50 million working aged Americans who are out of the job.
There are 4,280,000 Americans age 25-29 who are not working. It used to be people in this age group who bought a home, started a family, and lived comfortably while holding manufacturing jobs.
The National Association of Manufacturers has 8 regional offices but is based in Washington D.C. Four of the states that have a NAM regional office are in top ten for highest unemployment: New Jersey, Michigan, Illinois and California. Heck, Detroit’s unemployment rate is still at 17.7%!
Even though we had a major recession and haven’t seemed to recover from it yet, we’re still handing out over 1 million life time work permits to foreign workers every single year. If Mr. Timmons got what he wanted, this yearly number would more than double.
Sitting along side Mr. Timmons at the forum was Tom Donahue, CEO of the Chamber of Commerce. His group has been working really hard to pass a foreign worker importation bill. So hard in fact, this week Mr. Donahue had the audacity to outright threaten Republicans. He told them not to come looking for more money until they passed the Senate bill that would add over 30 million new workers to our labor pool in the next 10 years. He even called anyone who didn’t like this piece of legislation “crazy!”
If caring for American workers is crazy, you can throw us all into the institution, Mr. Donahue!
The Chamber of Commerce spent over $74 million lobbying in 2013 with "immigration reform" being their number one priority. NAM spent over $7.6 million. Wouldn't it make sense to take a portion of the money spent trying to convince lawmakers they need more foreign workers and put that money towards finding and training the millions of unemployed workers who are already here?
I sincerely hope that Mr. Timmons was not exaggerating his 600,000 figure. America needs a strong manufacturing sector to get us back on the right track. But bringing in millions of workers to fill these jobs only helps a few, including Mr. Timmons and Mr. Donahue, not American workers and not the future of the American middle class.

House Closes a Door to Military Amnesty, but Senate Remains Open...
House Majority Leader Eric Cantor announced that he would not allow Rep. Jeff Denham's military amnesty proposal to either be attached as an amendment to the must-pass defense bill or be considered for a vote by itself. Illegal Immigrants Or Undocumented Guests?
http://realityalwayswins.com/2014/05/20/illegal-immigrants-or-undocumented-guests/

What if breaking into someone’s house was treated like breaking into the country?
What should our immigration policy be?
Is it ok to reward someone whose first action upon entering the country was to break our laws?
Do we have a border problem or do we have a welfare state problem?
Is it fair to all the people who came here legally to grant amnesty to those that didn’t come here legally?
Are people who come here illegally illegal immigrants, or undocumented guests/undocumented workers?
What do you think?

THIS ISSUE: Majority Leader Cantor's primary loss spells an uncertain future for immigration
picture-96272.jpg
Much of this week's national news coverage focused on the effects of supporting and promising amnesty. An earthquake disrupted the political landscape on Tuesday evening when House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-VA) lost his Republican primary to little-known challenger Dave Brat. Immigration was the key issue in what numerous national commentators indicated was one of the biggest political upsets in congressional history. As a result, nearly all news stories Wednesday morning declared Cantor's loss to be the death knoll for any amnesty legislation during the remaining 6 months of this Congress.
While Cantor's loss continues to send aftershocks through the Republican Party, the amnesty threat still looms large. Just one day after Cantor's defeat, Senator Rand Paul (R-KY) threw his support behind the Grover Norquist-led Partnership for a New American Economy push for comprehensive immigration reform. By doing so, Sen. Paul, an oft-discussed possible 2016 GOP Presidential contender, has made it clear he stands with Big Business and Open Borders advocates at the expense of American workers when it comes to immigration policy.
Meanwhile Speaker of the House John Boehner (R-OH) announced that the vote to replace Congressman Cantor as House Majority Leader will occur on June 19th. While Majority Whip Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) is likely to ascend as Cantor's replacement, the rush to hold the vote raises some concerns as to how that would affect immigration legislation. McCarthy's views on the issue are nearly identical to Cantor's, suggesting no real change in the position of House Leadership when it comes to possible support for amnesty.
All this unfolded against the backdrop of the crisis along the southern border where tens of thousands of unaccompanied minors from Central America continue to illegally enter the United States in hopes of receiving DACA or some other form of "kids" amnesty. As Border Patrol and ICE agents struggle to process and accommodate this unprecedented surge of illegal immigration, they are reporting (and have been quoted in mainstream news sources such as the New York Times) that many of the minors apprehended crossing the border illegally have said they are trying to get in to the U.S. before time runs out to qualify for amnesty.
This crisis is a sad and dangerous illustration of how promises of future amnesties simply encourage more would-be illegal aliens to put their lives at risk to come here illegally in hopes of receiving amnesty. Whether they intended it or not, President Obama and Members of Congress who have been championing amnesty bear some responsibility for this crisis and the fate of these minors. The question now is will the national response simply be one of accommodation or will anyone stand up and address the magnet that is pulling them here.
Perhaps the growing number of high profile examples of how promising rewards for illegal immigration can have serious unintended consequences (maybe intended in some cases) are already causing would-be amnesty supporters to re-think their positions. Just today, we got word that a New Jersey Assemblyman who sponsored controversial legislation granting driver's licenses to illegal aliens pulled his bill. Congrats to all of you in New Jersey who have worked so hard to oppose this effort the past several months.
Whether or not these events indicate a sea change in the focus of immigration policies from the corporate-driven vision of the top echelon of the Republican Party to that of the U.S. Commission on Immigration Reform that recommended that the needs of American workers and taxpayers be the priority of immigration policy remains to be seen. But you can play a role in which direction we head. Please continue to respond to our Action Alerts even during these "quiet" summer months as your activism now will help set the stage for what we face in the Fall.

LANGUAGE MATTERS
spotlight-icon-dictionary.png
THEY SAY: Border security first
THEY WANT: Amnesty & more illegal immigration
We have come to understand that most people who emphasize the phrase "Border security first" are much more interested in what comes after "first" than in border security. They tend to be using border security as a selling point to get out of the way so they can more easily issue an amnesty to as many illegal aliens as possible.
It is important to teach our allies to never use the phrase "border security first" and to label those who continue to use the phrase as being the supporters of amnesty and illegal immigration that they surely are.

Media Cite Amnesty Views in Cantor's Loss, Declare Immigration Reform Dead for Year
The media are abuzz with analysis over Prof. Dave Brat's win over House Majority Leader Eric Cantor in Virginia's 7th District Republican primary. Many are concluding that his pro-amnesty views were a major factor, given that Prof. Brat emphasized them at every turn, and that Republicans are not likely to want to take up immigration reform this year after seeing voters reprimand a leading amnesty advocate. Below are excerpts from some of the media reports.

DHS Denies Responsibility for Surge of Minors at the Border
The number of illegal alien minors coming to the U.S. from Central America has grown exponentially since the President announced his DACA program.
