Never been a cruise and have no real desire to take one. Only two that interest me would be Alaskan cruise or Viking Cruise through Europe

[h=1]Hospital Worker Who Handled Ebola Samples Is on Cruise Ship[/h]
A Dallas health care worker who handled clinical specimens from an Ebola-infected patient is on a cruise ship in the Caribbean, with the worker self-quarantined and being monitored for signs of infection, the State Department said in a statement.
The unidentified female worker departed on a cruise ship from Galveston, Texas, Oct. 12 and was out of the country before being notified of active monitoring required by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, according to the government statement.

Leaving on the same cruise as last year on Saturday. I was able to pay for 1/2 the cruise w/ poker winnings last time... we'll see how it goes.

Hopefully going scuba diving in Cozumel.

Headed out this week for yet another Carnival cruise. Scuba diving, poker, beach, great food... Can't wait.

Leave this coming Saturday out of Houston. 5 nighter, but we hit just 2 Mexican ports, Cozumel and Progreso. We'll scuba in Cozumel and head to Merida in the Yucatan at the other port. Merida is,an amazing city, very European....We've got a group of 20 going.

If there's no bash plans the next while would be fun to plan an RX Cruise or something to get a bunch of us together at some point during the spring or summer time, when football isn't going

Trip Report:

Highlights:
- One of the scuba dives in Cozumel was the best dive I've ever been on. Santa Rosa Reef - I've actually dove that reef before, but this time we did some
underwater caves, and got to see the biggest Loggerhead Sea Turtle I've ever seen (similar to this one):
diver-with-very-large-loggerhead-seaturtle-150314124702.jpg

- Also swam next to a bunch of sharks...
- Made $700 in the poker room on the ship
- Spent lots of quality time with family/extended family
- Got in some good dancing, the wife and I have been taking ballroom dance classes
- Took the public bus from Progreso, Mexico to Merida ($2) instead of paying the
$40-$60 excursion prices... well worth it

Negatives:
- They got rid of lobster night on the ship, ugh
- Noisy teenagers partying all night long - need to bring ear-plugs
- too short, must do 7 nighters from here on out

Overall I continue to say that while Carnival is probably the low end for cruise ships, they provide a
great bang for the buck.

Three years ago today, 6-year-old Qwentyn Hunter was on a cruise with his parents and two older siblings heading back to Miami from Cozumel. Before dinner, Qwentyn and his brother asked their dad, Caselle Hunter, to take them up to the hot tub. He happily agreed.
<iframe width="300" height="250" id="oas_frame_Middle" border="0" frameborder="0" marginwidth="0" marginheight="0" scrolling="no" style="border: 0px currentColor; width: 300px; height: 250px;"></iframe>
While on the pool deck, however, Caselle bumped into a church friend and became distracted. Before he could fully process what was going on, he heard another passenger splash into the water and pull out his son's limp body. Tragically, Qwentyn, an aspiring child model from Orlando, died onboard the ship.
Just a few days shy of the anniversary of their son's death, the Hunters filed a federal lawsuit against Carnival on Tuesday, saying the company acted negligently in failing to provide lifeguards and adequate medical care that might have saved Qwentyn's life.
The Hunters were featured in a New Times cover story last month about the failure of most major cruise lines to employ lifeguards — and the drownings that often follow. Attorneys who represent cruise ship passengers say the industry, which is protected by an archaic 1920 law called the Death on the High Seas Act, cares more about its bottom line than the safety of guests.
[h=2][/h]
The Hunters' lawsuit, filed by maritime attorney Michael Winkleman, calls Carnival's conduct "outrageous" and says the decision not to employ lifeguards was "calculated to save Carnival money while greatly increasing the risk to its passengers."
"Numerous children have died or been grievously injured recently onboard cruise ships due to drowning or near drowning prior to this incident, yet Carnival does not even spend a single penny on utilizing lifeguards onboard its ships to prevent these tragedies," the suit says.
Indeed, incidents of kids drowning in cruise ship pools are happening with increased frequency. Just this past weekend, a 2-year-old child had to be hospitalized after nearly drowning on another Carnival cruise ship, the Splendor.
Carnival, which hasn't responded to the Hunters' complaint in court, told New Times it had not reviewed the lawsuit and couldn't comment. Company spokesman Roger Frizzell argued last month, though, that the buck stops with children's caregivers.
"Our perspective is that close parental supervision is the best practice to ensure pool safety. This is a similar policy to most hotels and resorts," he wrote.
[h=2][/h]
Caselle Hunter has said that he ultimately accepts responsibility for what happened to his son but that he hopes to prevent the needless deaths of other children on cruise ships. His wife, Tashara, told New Times the only intention in filing a lawsuit would be to encourage cruise lines to employ water safety measures such as lifeguards.
"We were never looking for monetary gain, because no amount of money can bring our son back," Tashara said. "But the fact of putting lifeguards on there, on their ships to prevent someone else going through what we experienced, was the only request we had."
Winkleman, who has filed three suits this year on behalf of parents whose children drowned on cruises, says the failure by cruise lines to take action is unforgivable.
"I hope this lawsuit shines a much-needed light on the fact that cruise lines continue to refuse to put lifeguards on ships despite nearly a dozen children dying since Qwentyn died," he says.
After Qwentyn's death, his parents started the Qwentyn Hunter Luv Foundation, which provides support to grieving families and helps coordinate swimming lessons for children. They have vowed to avoid cruising until lifeguards are placed on ships.

2 years ago I did the Royal Carib Cruise with Ocean view suite. It was my one and only cruise experience. Everything was great except I just feel funny being on a ship. Once the trip finished, I would sit in the house and I still felt as if i am in the cruise. Anyone get the feeling?

I prefer plane travelling in Planes and Cars. I prefer all inclusive resorts over Cruises. But for me overall when it comes to travelling I like to go places where i have the freedom to do anything i want with the itinerary. Only go on resort style vacation when we go with bunch of friends or family.

Carnival just called me, and because of my casino play on my recent cruises, I basically get a cruise for free for 2 people, I just have to pay the port taxes.

So... booked Christmas week for the whole family. Headed to Cozumel, Roatan, Belize, Costa Maya. Going to do some scuba diving.

Believe me its not free. You paid more than what regular joe pays and they know you will pay even more when you get back on board.

Carnival Cruise Line confirmed that "a large family group" was removed from its Carnival Legend liner (seen above in May 2017) over "disruptive and violent acts" they were involved with on Friday morning. (Reuters)

Around two dozen Carnival Cruise Line passengers were removed from the Carnival Legend on Friday following a violent brawl that one onlooker described as a “bloodbath.”
The Carnival Legend was scheduled to dock in Melbourne on Saturday following a 10-day trip through the South Pacific, but was forced to make an unscheduled stop in Eden, New South Wales, where police unloaded the unruly passengers, 9 News Australia is reporting.

Witnesses say the fight broke out very early on Friday morning between a large extended family, guests and staff members, and grew to the point where fellow passengers were “truly scared for [their] safety.”

DOZENS SICKENED WITH POSSIBLE NOROVIRUS AFTER COMING BACK FROM CRUISE
Footage from the ship shows several passengers punching, kicking and wresting each other to the floor, while security officers attempt to break up the melee. Some of the officers are also seen kicking and fighting with the passengers themselves.
At one point in the footage, a female staff member is seen trying to swat at the person filming the fight, presumably in an attempt to stop him/her from filming.
Travelers aboard the Carnival Legend said some of the unruly passengers had been “looking for trouble from the minute they got on the ship,” according to a witness who spoke with Melbourne’s 3AW Radio.

“My husband said to take [their behavior] away, because there’s kids here, and five of them surrounded my husband … They told us to watch our backs,” the woman added, per 9 News.
Other passengers recalled that a few of the brawlers had been involved in previous fights on the ship, and had threatened to stab and throw people overboard. One went so far as to call the whole trip a “cruise from hell.”

"We are so scared after witnessing a traumatic experience with yet again the same offenders,” another passenger told 9 News. “It was a bloodbath.”

Upon docking in Eden, police in New South Wales removed six men and three teenage boys, and another 14 passengers disembarked along with group. Carnival has since confirmed that they were members of the same extended family.
"Police have been told a fight involving several men took place on board the ship after an argument about 12.45 a.m. today. Security intervened and detained the men before notifying the Marine Area Command,” confirmed the New South Wales police, adding that they will be investigating the incident.
"The group were transported to Canberra where other travel arrangements were made."

“The safety and security of our guests and crew is our number one priority,” a spokesman for Carnival Cruise Line said in a statement.
“We apply a zero tolerance approach to excessive behavior that affects other guests. In line with this policy, we cooperated fully with local authorities in Australia to remove a large family group who had been involved in disruptive and violent acts aboard Carnival Legend.
“We are confident that this strong action addressed the disruption on Carnival Legend and enabled our remaining guests to properly enjoy the remainder of their cruise.”

My buddy is on a Royal Caribbean cruise right now and was supposed to stop in Roatan Honduras today, but some other ship crashed into the pier yesterday, so they can't...
I've scuba dived in Roatan many times, and if I was on that ship wanting to dive, I'd be pissed.

Carnival Cruise Lines has said an issue with the ship's fire suppression system is to blame for the flooding of around 50 staterooms on the Carnival Dream. (Facebook/Marla DeAnn Haase)

An issue with the Carnival Dream's fire suppression system reportedly caused water to begin flowing down walls and pooling in the hallways of the cruise ship on the evening of May 3.
Around 50 of the ship’s staterooms on Deck 9 flooded as a result of the break, Carnival Cruise Line confirmed in a statement. The liner was five days into a week-long voyage around the Western Caribbean at the time of the incident.
<iframe src="https://www.facebook.com/plugins/post.php?href=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.facebook.com%2Fmdhaase%2Fposts%2F10215181706671616&width=500" width="500" height="664" scrolling="no" frameborder="0" allowtransparency="true" allow="encrypted-media" style="box-sizing: border-box; margin: 0px; padding: 0px; border-width: initial; border-style: none; font-style: inherit; font-variant: inherit; font-weight: inherit; font-stretch: inherit; font-size: inherit; line-height: inherit; font-family: inherit; vertical-align: baseline; overflow: hidden;"></iframe>

Footage from the ship shows water pouring from the ceiling and walls in one of the ship’s corridors as passengers and staff look on.

<iframe src="https://www.facebook.com/plugins/video.php?href=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.facebook.com%2Fmdhaase%2Fvideos%2F10215181524267056%2F&show_text=0&width=560" width="560" height="315" scrolling="no" frameborder="0" allowtransparency="true" allowfullscreen="true" style="box-sizing: border-box; margin: 0px; padding: 0px; border-width: initial; border-style: none; font-style: inherit; font-variant: inherit; font-weight: inherit; font-stretch: inherit; font-size: inherit; line-height: inherit; font-family: inherit; vertical-align: baseline; overflow: hidden;"></iframe>
VIKING ANNOUNCES 245-DAY 'ULTIMATE WORLD CRUISE'
Carnival Cruise Line has since stated that the water stemmed from a “fire suppression system” and employees began cleaning “immediately.”
“Our onboard teams began cleanup immediately related to this clean water from a fire suppression system,” Carnival told Fox News. “We appreciate our guests’ understanding and sincerely apologize for this disruption. We also thank our crew members for their quick action and hard work.”
The cruise line added that the majority of the affected guests were able to stay in their own staterooms following cleanup.
Cruise guest Marla DeAnn Haase, who shared the above footage, was one of the passengers relocated in the wake of the flooding. She wrote on Facebook that she and family members were moved to the ship’s spa, where they slept on yoga mats.
She added that her brother-in-law’s cpap machine “caught on fire” just before he fell asleep, allegedly as a result of the transformer being submerged in water for “too long.”
RITZ-CARLTON LAUNCHES LUXURY YACHT-STYLE CRUISE
Carnival has confirmed that inconvenienced guests would be refunded for the cruise, and given a 50 percent-off voucher for a future cruise. The company also offered to fly passengers home if they chose to disembark early.
"We appreciate our guests’ understanding and sincerely apologize. We also thank our crew members for their quick action and hard work," said Carnival, adding the incident should not delay the ship's subsequent itineraries.
Pictures provided by Carnival on Friday appeared to show the previously soaked corridors cleaned and relatively dry.

The mishap isn’t the first headline to plague the cruise line in recent months.
In December 2017, a Florida family became livid after finding a hidden camera in their bedroom aboard the Carnival Fantasy. In January, two female passengers on two separate ships, the Carnival Triumph and Carnival Elation, fell overboard and are presumed dead. And in February, the Carnival Legend ship was forced to dock early in New South Wales to eject 23 passengers following a violent “bloodbath” of a brawl.
