recently watched it in its entirety, and not only does it hold up well, still as good as any ever made. that said, spiel picked it as a vehicle to win a [well deserved] oscar. he realizes sci fi movies arent going to win no matter what.

Of the ones I watched, I'd rate them:

American Hustle
Wolf of Wall Street
12 Years Slave
Nebraska
Capt Phillips
Gravity

Lupita ??? was extremely fortunate to win up against 4 who were at least her equal, feel like she won it for that one scene pleading to her owner. Plus Hwood politics of course.

Nebraska…boring as fuk 2 stars
All is Lost…decent 3 stars
Dallas Buyers Club…solid performances & entertaining 4 stars
American Hustle…overrated, good but not anything special 3 stars
Capt Phillips…best of these 5 but again hard to imagine it's the best movie this year 4 stars

Yet to see Wolf, 12 Years or Gravity. To me I'd pick to watch Oldboy again over all these. And not to sound like a puss but About Time was a pretty good movie too.

So, after watching that movie I could say it wasn't the best.

IMO Captain Phillips should have won hands down.
