He has not lost a game in two years for various reasons. First and formost, Jimbo Fisher is better than 90% of the head coaches out there. Next, florida State plays a soft schedule. He also has had some very good talent around him. He obviously is a head case, but Fisher has managed to keep him on a relatively straight course so far. We will see just how good he is next week, when he faces a red hot Tech team. Mariota is in a different zip code. As Oregon will find out next season, without him, Oregon is just your average good team, but nowheres close to a championshiip team. How he does in the NFL remains to be seen. Too many "can't miss" kids miss.

All you need to understand is what direction the Ducks have been headed since Kelly was hired to be Belotti's OC. The conference got an extra 20 mil+ per team from TV and Big Daddy threw down 10's of millions more just for the CFB Ducks. Recruits take one look at Oregon's training facilities and it's difficult to walk away. They've traditionally been loaded at the QB position -- Mariota could be the best but very highly talented Duck QB's go back years.

PS... I truly hate having to say this but Sarkisian is a huge pile of mediocrity.

Here is what will happen next weekend. GT will win and win easily. They have a decent defense but they are able to control the pace of the game by keeping the ball for 2/3 of the time. No more Winston for you sir after Saturday. I am an FSU fan but I feel GT possesses what it takes to win that matchup.

I`m not a fan of his off the field.....But on the field all he does is win...LOL......Last season was magical...40 TD`s and 10 interceptions.....National championship and a Heisman Trophy.

This season his stats are not great....Only 21 TD`s and 17 interceptions....The key is he`s 11-0 this season as a starter....That makes him 25-0 as a starting QB in 2 seasons.....You can`t beat that....LOL.

He reminds me of a NFL QB.....He`s a pocket passer....That`s what you need for the next level.

Jameis Winston`s college resume
1-National Championship
2-Heisman Trophy
3-25-0

Hate the guy all you want....Facts don`t lie.

If he comes out this year, I will be shocked if he is drafted in top half of 1st rd, let alone the 1st rd altogether.. If he is, that GM will be looking for work shortly after

I don't think this thread is about Mariota, but I agree he's not going to have success in the NFL. He's another Kapernick and that shtick has been played (the NFL has figured it out). The "running QB" is a gimmick and doesn't have a long shelf life...UNLESS they learn how to stay in the pocket and throw the ball. Look at the NFL stars, none of them are running QBs. Cam Newton had his 1 year. Kapernick, the same. Even Wilson has learned not to run so much.

I hate FSU and that POS Winston....but I think he has more of an upside. Fisher has produced several 1st round draft choices. If it weren't for his off field issues I'd be hard pressed to not see how he's not taken in the 1st round. He came up against a solid defense on Saturday and had a bad game. Bad games happen to good QBs.

Thanks for the thoughtful discussion. You still think the running QB is what NFL teams want? I think Mariota is a great, great, great COLLEGE QB. I'm not sure what to think about his NFL future...because I've seen what great, great, great RUNNING COLLEGE QBs have done when the NFL gets a hold of them.

I'm not talking about giving you action (you degen!)...I'm just having a discussion.

I think Jamies has more of a chance to be a pocket QB because FSU doesn't run the spread option and he takes snaps under center. That's my argument. Yours is "he had a bad game vs. Florida...he's not an NFL QB"?? Seriously?

Ehhhh I doubt that coach. Mariota is a whole new breed of qb... Good makeup on and off the field, wth incredible athleticism. Under the right coaches, and sitting their first years behind a veteran starter I believe bith Mariota and Hundley will be successful in their NFL careers....they have to many intangibles to not be good. I don't think they will ever be a Tom brady, Andre luck, Aaron Rodgers or Peyton manning type of guy, but I still believe they will be successfull.... Kaepernick is an athlete playing qb.... He's a terrible example. And he's not as intuitive as Hundley and Mariota

Wow Red Eye. I thought you were a P12 defender. Laughable.

Again, I think the kid is a GREAT....COLLEGE QB.

How is he better than all of the other athletic/running QBs ahead of him? How have all those other athletic QBs that Oregon's produced done? He's not a better college QB than Cam (who played against WAY better competition....and beat Oregon for his title). He's not better than RG3. He's not better than Kapernick. He's not better than Tebow. He's just another GREAT COLLEGE QB....destined to fail in the NFL.

Mariota does go thru multiple reads.. decision making is great... great arm.. great size...mobility is fantastic, and this has been behind a suspect O line.. He's a better version of R. Wilson & Kapernik...He should go #1 in the draft......BTW, if the offense was a gimmick, why is it still succeeding

Success is measured in Championships....how much crystal do the ducks have tucked away in the ole trophy case?

Andrew Luck didn't win any championships or beat Oregon for that matter, wouldn't he be a good addition to a team ?

you obviously have overlooked is great arm, decision making, and his leadership..you're acting like his A Rodgers excabability is a liability.... Dan Fouts & Norm Van Brocklin come to mind as great Oregon NFL QB's

we really don't need to quibble over this, most draft experts have Mariota as the top pick in April....
